Daniel Enoch Astleford

Martinsville

Daniel has so fully dedicated himself to community service, over 100 hours, for the last 4 years, it is no wonder that he was awarded the President of the United States Volunteer Service Award in 2010. It is remarkable how he managed to fit this into his schedule with all of his extra-curriculars as well. Daniel has been a part of the MHS Boys' Varsity Tennis team, the Boy Scouts, the MHS Track team, and the Drama Club. He has also been a Hugh O'brien Youth Leadership Service Volunteer, President of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints Seminary, a Hoosier Boys State delegate, and he helped lead the MHS Ultimate Frisbee team to a state championship title. While participating in all of these activities, he managed to keep a 4.215 GPA and score a 1670 on the SAT and a 25 on the ACT. With these credentials, Daniel plans to attend Purdue University next year to major in actuarial science and minor in statistics and business management. Driving him to these lengths is statistics teacher Eric Lund, and his role model is his brother, Robert Astleford. Bret Anthony and Mary Anne Astleford are his parents.

Daniel Kerstiens

Martinsville

Daniel will have no problems with schoolwork at Purdue University next year when he attends this college for aerospace and computer engineering due to all of his academic preparation. He has helped win 3 state championships for the Academic Decathalon team and 2 state championships for the Spell Bowl team. He is also a National Merit Finalist, a Lilly Endowment Scholar, and an Academic All-Star. During high school, Daniel has been a part of the aforementioned teams and the National Honor Society, traveled to Spain for a summer, attained a 34 on his ACT, and maintained a 4.482 GPA. His favorite book is previously-aired radio comedy, Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams. Guiding and influencing this young man were Wayne Babbitt and his parents, John and Julie Kerstiens.

Josh Mannix

Decatur Central

Josh Mannix is Valedictorian of his senior class, Drum Major, Show Choir Co-President, Senior Class President and National Honor Society President. He enjoys participating in Students Against Destructive Decisions, the Brain Game team, Marching Band, Show Choir, Musical Theatre and being a tutor. His current grade point average is 4.499 and he achieved a score of 2030 on his SAT. Josh will be attending Indiana State University in the fall. Mary Miedema, Band Director at DCHS is his most influential school employee. Josh's most meaningful single experience was his baptism and his role model is Jesus Christ. He is the son of William and Kimberly Mannix.

Karlie Stanton

Mooresville

It is easy to see that Karlie was born a leader because she is the President of the National Honor Society, Captain of the varsity cheerleading squad, Dance Captain in the Spotlighters show choir, and Section Leader in the Madrigals choral ensemble. She is also a part of the Key Club, Spanish Club. P.U.S.H., and Verbalessence. Among these activities, she has managed to achieve a 4.146 GPA, and an SAT score of 1930. Pushing Sarah to do all of these things is role model and sister, Samantha Jameson who motivated her to be who she is today. AP Calculus teacher Kelly Crawford and choir director Jason Damron were also influential teachers in her life. Next year, Karlie plans to attend Indiana University's Kelley School of Business to study marketing and economics to eventually have a career in advertising in New York City. Sarah's parents are Christopher and Kimberli Stanton.

Margaret Page

Mooresville

Throughout her life, Maggie has met many people who have made positive impacts on her life. One of the most influential was a special needs student she met in fifth grade. She has continued her friendship since, taking the student with her to school dances and outings with friends. She hopes that her friendship has shown other students to look past and embrace the differences in others. Her other influences are Ann Phillips, a Language Arts teacher at Mooresville High School, and her grandfather, William McLaughlin. Both of these role models have influenced her to reach her dreams and be more confident in her abilities. Academically, Maggie has achieved a GPA of 4.275 and earned a 1850 on her SAT. She has been on the High Honor Roll her entire educational career, and she earned 29 college credits at IUPUI in addition to her high school schoolwork. She is involved in National Honor Society as well as many other clubs at MHS, including Best Buddies, Key Club, Students Against Destructive Decisions, Choir, and Youth as Resources. She has also participated in diving and track. Maggie will be attending the Honors College at the University of Indianapolis to major in nursing. Her parents are Debra and Gordon Page.

Ryan Schneck

Martinsville

Ryan was a Larry Bird Award State Finalist, Morgan County Lilly Endowment Finalist, Morgan County Kendrick Foundation Scholarship winner, Hoosier Boys' State representative for Martinsville High School and a Great Lakes Scholar. While at MHS, he was active with the Boys' Basketball Team, National Honor Society, German Club, PEERS, Plus Seniors, Leo Club and the Hoobly Gooblies. Ryan has volunteered at a camp for handicapped children, tutored elementary school children, Brian's Tricycle Race for the Blind and Deaf, a basketball camp for kids and Relay for Life. Ryan plans to attend Butler University in the fall and plans to pursue a career in Pharmacy. His single most meaningful experience was participating in Hoosier Boys' State. Mr. Rob Helms at West Middle School is his most influential school employee. Ryan scored a 1910 on his SAT and has a current grade point average of 4.269. His parents, Dwight and Cindy Scheck, are his role models.

Stacey Abshire

Martinsville

Stacey will be attending IUPUI in the fall to become a high school math teacher. While at Martinsville High School she has participated in Spell Bowl, Academic Super Bowl, Leo Club as President, National Honor Society as Vice-President, Future Educators of America and French Club. Stacey is a National Merit Commended Student, Hoosier Girls' State delegate, IUPUI Bepko Scholar and a DAR Good Citizen Award recipient. Community Service projects include United Way's Youth Day of Caring, various service projects with Leo Club, National Honor Society and her church youth group. She scored a 2110 on the SAT, 31 on the ACT and has a current grade point average of 4.496. Stacey credits all of her dedicated teachers as being her most influential school employees. Her single most meaningful experience was her baptism. Her role models are her parents, Christopher and Jayna Abshire, and her dedicated teachers.

Sterling James Brooks

Mooresville

Being a member of marching band, pep band, jazz band, symphonic band, and show choir band can be time-consuming, but Sterling is still able to find the time to spend three hours a month doing community service projects. He provides free saxophone lessons to beginners, and he is an active member in a group project that raises money for churches in mission. He also creates time in his strenuous schedule to be a member of the science and math academic teams, student council, and the track and field team. Sterling has a combined GPA of 4.236 and scored 2070 on his SAT. Sterling's biggest influence is Steve Sputsa, a family friend who has been his role model since his childhood, and his teacher Kim Zook has also cultivated his love for science and encouraged him toward his future profession. Sterling plans to attend DePauw University to earn a degree in biochemistry with a minor in music, and he hopes to later attend grad school to pursue his goal of becoming a neo-natal surgeon. Sterling's parents are Roger and Misty Brooks.

Willy Spina

Martinsville

Willy has achieved a lot in his high school career in his academics, sports, and extra-curricular activities. At MHS, Willy maintained a GPA of 4.461, was in the top three of his class, and given several awards including Freshman of the Year and Science Student of the Year. In sports, he was a 2-year All-Conference soccer player, a nominee for Wendy's Heisman, and a nominee for the Larry Byrd Character award. He was also involved in a plethora of activities during his time at MHS. He was involved in the student council as the treasurer, National Honor Society as the treasurer, Peers, jazz band, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and he was on the basketball, soccer, baseball, and football teams. Willy's service does not end there, though. In the community he tutored, worked at a school carnival and a bake sale for his church, rang bells for the Salvation Army, and talked to fourth grade students about character. With all of these credentials, it is no wonder that Willy plans to attend St. John's University in New York to eventually become a physician's assistant. Helping drive his efforts were role model John Wooden and influential school employee, coach, and teacher Daniel Urban. His parents are Bill and Beth Spina.

Zachary C. Clark

Martinsville

Zachary will be attending Davidson College in Davidson, North Carolina for pre-med studies to eventually become a general or orthopedic surgeon. He also plans to play on the football team. Zachary received the Craig Family Scholarship to Davidson College, the Old National Bank Foundation Scholarship, 2010 Martinsville Football Mental Attitude Award and the John Koontz Tough Player Award. He was named to the Academic All State Varsity Football and All -Conference Varsity Baseball teams and was Varsity Football and Baseball team captain. Zachary volunteers with Salvation Army bell ringing, Toys for Tots collections, 2008 Flood clean-up with the football team, Spring cleans with his youth group and assists with high school sports camps. He is a member of National Honor Society and Fellowship of Christian Athletes. Zachary's current grade point average is 4.31 and he scored a 1940 on his SAT. His most meaningful experience happened during the flood of 2008 when the MHS Football Team helped the flood victims in Martinsville. Mr. Michael Maxwell is his most influential school employee. Zachary's role model is Walter Payton. He is the son of Earl and Carmen Clark.
