Zipline goes up

It was quite a day for Pioneer Park and its staff on Monday. The crane was finally able to traverse the woods without sinking in mud and raised the start tower a little north of the pool. Bruce Kidman of Soaring Eagle Ziplines was supervising the job and said the tower is 90 feet tall. The two-seat ride will go through the woods and come out near one of the walking trails. Kidman said it goes 35 miles per hour going down (no matter the weight), and riders then go backward about 30 miles per hour to return to the launch site and go up to the starting point. Kidman said the ride only needs one person to operate it since it has sensors for all kinds of things. He said if a seatbelt isn't fastened correctly or the balance is off or any other glitch, the zipline won't go. The ticket building is also in place and ready for electrical connections, according to park superintendent Brent Callahan. Photo by Amy Hillenburg.
