Interstate-70 west bound at the 54 mile marker has both lanes opened. The jack-knifed semi has been removed and Haz-mat crews are cleaning up spilled diesel fuel. Haz-mat crews are expected to be finished within the next 30 minutes. I-70 west bound traffic is still backed up to the 59 mile marker, however, traffic is moving steadily. Troopers are also working a personal injury crash at the entrance ramp of Ind. 267 onto I-70 east bound. Interstate highways are wet with scattered slick spots. Bridges and overpasses are becoming slick again due to the blowing snow. State highways and secondary roads are still snow covered and slick. North and south roads are experiencing drifts due to the blowing snow. We need to leave our phone lines open for emergency calls. Motorists can access road and weather information by visiting INDOT’s web siteTrafficWise.IN.gov or dial 800-261-ROAD (7623). Motorists please use the following cautions when driving: — Clear all windows, head/tail lamps of snow and ice — Turn headlights on, even in the daylight hours — Reduce speed — Be aware of sudden stops — Keep distance between vehicles, don’t tailgate — Hang up cell phones and drive with caution — Buckle up — MOVE OVER, SLOW DOWN when approaching emergency vehiclesEmergency level III
Morgan County remains under Level III watch at this time, according to an e-mail from Morgan County Emergency Management Agency Director Jeff Neal, which means routine travel and activity might be restricted due to hazardous conditions. The county will likely remain under level III watch until the National Weather Service's winter weather warning expires at 1 p.m. today, Neal said. Road conditions are treacherous and there has been several slideoffs and personal injury accidents throughout the county reported by the Morgan County Sheriff's Department. Early this morning there was a personal injury accident on I-70 with entrapment at the 54 mile marker. Morgan County CERT and 4X4 team will remain on standby through midday today. If anyone needs the team they can contact David Skaggs at 765-318-1004 or Neal at 765-318-2372.Schools closed
