March 21, 2010, last update: 3/22 @ 12:30 pm

Furniss

According to information from the Morgan County Sheriff’s Department, Metropolitan School District of Martinsville Superintendent Ron Furniss was arrested at 12:48 a.m. Sunday and booked into the jail on a preliminary charge of operating a vehicle while intoxicated.

The record indicates Furniss was stopped by a deputy on Blue Bluff Road. According to jail records, Furniss had a BAC of .16, which is twice the legal limit. He has bonded out.

According to established procedures, the Morgan County Prosecutor’s Office normally reviews the deputy’s probable cause affidavit on Monday morning and files formal charges sometime Monday or Tuesday.

School board president Charles Sampson said that he and the other board members are aware of the situation, but do not have any comment at this time.

Furniss said he is not ready to talk about this incident at this time, but will have a statement available Monday morning.

Watch for more information as it is available.
