In case you were planning to attend Starbase Indy on its traditional Thanksgiving weekend dates, you’ll need to find something else to do.
The event was postponed until the weekend of Dec. 9 to 11 this year because another event had booked all the rooms Thanksgiving weekend at the Indianapolis Marriott East Hotel and other nearby hostelries.
The organizers are making up for the delay with an outstanding lineup of guests including local favorites and others with ties to several television series including “Star Trek” incarnations, “Chuck,” “Stargate,” “Terminator,” the “X-Files,” “Babylon 5,” “True Blood” and “Beauty and the Beast” and movies such as “The Man from Earth,” “Candyman,” “Night of the Living Dead” (1990) and “2012.”
Among the headliners will be the husband and wife team of John Billingsley and Bonita Friedericy.
Billingsley starred in Star Trek Enterprise as Dr. Phlox. He also appeared in the films “The Man from Earth” and “2012” along with such television series as “24,” “True Blood,” “Cold Case” and “NYPD Blue.”
Friedericy is currently featured in “Chuck” and has appeared in “The Starter Wife,” “Buffy the Vampire Slayer,” “The West Wing” and “Judging Amy” television series.
Other featured guests include Tony Todd, Dean Haglund, Morgan Gendel and Jay Acovone.
Todd has appeared in multiple incarnations of “Star Trek,” “Babylon 5,” “24,” “Stargate SG-1” and “Chuck.” He played “the candyman” in the movie “Candyman” and also was featured in “The Man from Earth” and the 1990 version of “Night of the Living Dead.”
Haglund probably is best known for his role as Langley, one of the computer ‘geeks’ on X-Files. He also is an artist and standup comic. He is the interviewer and narrator of “The Truth is Out There,” a film about conspiracy theories and theorists that will be shown at Starbase Indy.
Gendel is the author of the Hugo-winning Star Trek Enterprise episode “The Inner Light.” Additionally, Gendel was the writer of Next Generation’s “Starship Mine,” “Star Trek: Deep Space Nine,” “Law and Order UK,” William Shatner’s “TekWars” and “21 Jump Street” films and episodes. His other credits include executive producer of “The Dresden Files” and the 2003 “Spider-Man” TV series as well as producer of “Nash Bridges.” He shared an Emmy nomination as an executive producer for “Law and Order” in 1990.
Acovone was a regular on “Beauty and the Beast” and appeared in “Stargate SG-1,” “Sliders” and the “X Files,” as well several soap operas including “General Hospital” and “Search for Tomorrow.”
A battle of the bands between Five Year Mission and the il Troubadore Klingon Music Project is on tap for the weekend. Indiana-based cartoonist David Reddick and artist/former actress Deborah Downey also are scheduled to attend.

Star Trek film delayed
With the delays in starting the production of the next Star Trek (either XII or II depending on how you count) movie, it should be little surprise that Paramount Pictures has announced it won’t be released until sometime in 2013. The studio had previously announced a mid-year 2012 release.
J.J. Abrams will direct this one as he did the previous one, which I dubbed “When Spocks Collide.”
There have been rumors that the new one will see the return of Khan Noonien Singh, the villain of “Wrath of Khan” the second movie, and “Space Seed,” an episode in the original series.
Nicholas Meyer, who directed “Wrath of Khan” and “The Undiscovered Country,” was at a Sherlock Holmes event in Bloomington over the weekend. He was there to celebrate the 35th anniversary of the film “The Seven Percent Solution,” based on his book. He also wrote the screenplay for that movie.
When the possibility of the return of the Khan was mentioned, Meyer acted surprised to hear that.
Asked if J.J. Abrams had consulted with him about Star Trek movies, Meyer said he hadn’t.
Meyer, however, had a conversation in recent years with Abrams at which a memory was revived.
Meyer was a guest at Abrams’ bar mitzvah. Meyer gave Abrams an annotated version of the “The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes.” And recently, Abrams passed the book along to his son.
Twilight early screening
A late note: If you are a fan of the Twilight movie series and live in the Martinsville area, you might be interested in knowing that there will be a 12:01 a.m. Friday (that's tonight for most people) showing of "Breaking Dawn: Part 1" at Show Place Cinemas, 1910 Morton Ave.
And if you're looking for a bargain, all showings at the little theater are $4.
