First, I want to apologize to everyone. This thread is about the Red Barn and I do hope things get better there. but for now, I'm going to stick my foot up the idiots butt. See, all you've done is show what an idiot you are. Paper boy huh? Sure, I delivered papers for 10 years. Matter of fact, I had two routes plus a regular job as well as some other things on the side. I've been able to manage my time very well. What your spineless little pea brain doesn't know is those paper routes just paid off one house, remodeled my garage and bought a new BMW. I'm not one that typically gets on here and talks about what I have or what I've done. I try and stick to the issue of how badly this town has been run the last 25 years. Including the nepotism, favortism and so on. The crap from people like you is so deep it's a wonder anyone can walk around. So you go there ahead little man. I'm happy as can be being a former paper boy. Cause while you've been living in your fantasy world,... Respond to this comment |

| nobodyimportant Friday, May 17, 2013: 6:30 pm More from nobodyimportant Neutral | I can't imagine anyone questioning the heart of those who help the need at the Red Bard. But there is another side of the story that was mentioned in the article and bears mentioning. There apparently is a history of less than desirable collaboration between the Red Barn and the other providers of food. When you decide to fly solo in a field that should be working together, it is hard to garner sympathy when that bites you. There are a lot of people who use the food banks. Most use them because they need to. A few others abuse the system by showing up at nearly all of them. In an attempt to minimize the abuse, a simple program has been embraced by several of the agencies and churches. It is called Charity Tracker. The Red Barn has been encouraged several times to make use of this shared but not available to the general public data software that allows providers to share with others the frequency of service utilization by individuals. It is not "big brother" in nature but a simple way to make sure that the scarce resources are not abused by a few, making what they have reach further the need. But the Red Barn decision-makers choose not to participate. We need the Red Barn. But there seems to be something lacking in leadership there. Certainly, the death of Patty's husband made it difficult for her and in hindsight she should have passed this decision on to someone else, but I think there is more to the situation. If there is a Board of Directors, they should investigate and see what help they can give Patty. Respond to this comment |

| Bluecollar Friday, May 17, 2013: 3:46 pm More from Bluecollar Neutral | Look people, the coach Tutterow days are gone. Today, in 4 A schools, EVERY player is a travel ball/ year round player who doesn't play 3 sports. This is why there's no "legion ball" in the summer... THERE'S NOBODY TO PLAY AGAINST... THEY'RE ALL PLAYING TRAVEL BALL! The day of playing at the LL and showing up and the HS coach teaching you is GONE. This is a football/basketball town( we spent a million dollars on a football field for petesake). Our kids are playing football and basketball all summer. The teams in our conference are dominated by BASEBALL PLAYERS. I'm losing faith that people around here will ever figure this out. Quit blaming the coach, quit blaming the players... they are playing against teams that have us out manned in nearly every position! These kids have competed well given the circumstances. These kids KNOW they are against stiff competition almost EVERY NIGHT. I'm sure it's hard to get loco crazy excited when you know the team your facing has a couple DI pitchers and you're pitching a kid that wouldn't even pitch on their JV team! Respond to this comment |

| Danny Stewart Friday, May 17, 2013: 3:41 pm More from Danny Stewart Neutral | Good question. That's where the discipline by the coach comes into play. Whether a player is benched, made to run laps or removed from the team, it's all a form of discipline. In other words, when the coach practices discipline as described above, he is holding the players accountable. Hence, it is the fault of the coach for either enacting or not enacting discipline. There are different levels a coach will use. Each progressively more severe.

| Wire Friday, May 17, 2013: 1:42 pm More from Wire Neutral | I agree that most of the responsibility lies squarely on the coach's shoulders. But at some point, the players have to be held accountable as well. For example, players skipping practice or showing up late, or becoming academically ineligible, or not implementing the things they're coached to do. I mean, I can show you the proper way to field a ground ball, but I can't go out and hold your glove for you during the game. I'm not saying any of these things are a problem here, specifically, but in general terms when should a portion of the responsibility shift to the player?

| Danny Stewart Friday, May 17, 2013: 1:02 pm More from Danny Stewart Neutral | Your original question was "how is that the coaches fault?" | Just observing Friday, May 17, 2013: 12:43 pm More from Just observing Neutral | So all this over a free can of food! I have been to the red barn and volunteered there. It has been in service far longer than the others, there's no money to be made here, no rewards and no fame. No matter who hands it out it goes to a good cause! The few volunteers at the Red Barn are all elderly and shouldn't be lifting cases of canned goods. Party's husband passed and I'm sure this has consumed a lot of her time, but this story of The Little Red Hen and who will help me sort the food is ridiculous and a sign of the times. So because someone didn't or couldn't help many do without. Jesus would turn the other cheek and gave more than he had.

| Wire Friday, May 17, 2013: 11:15 am More from Wire Neutral | On that, I agree with you. I believe the coach would agree with you too, seeing as one player (who had been starting all year and was one of the better players) was removed from the team earlier this week. As mentioned on a previous thread, he also benched a number of starters for one game as a form of motivation. Now, based on your comments, it sounds as though you don't believe that's enough.

| Forthepeople Thursday, May 16, 2013: 11:58 pm More from Forthepeople Highly Rated (+5) | Christopher has done an excellent job going into a very bad situation and turning things around. When he took over the Brooklyn police department had been viewed as a joke, not just by the towns people, but by other law enforcement agencys. He turned that perception around and fostered a great relationship with the town board, the citizens, and other agencys. He has faced many adversities during his tenure as town Marshall and has risen to the occasion and met each one. From the bottom of my heart as a citizen of Brooklyn I am sad to see him go, but I wish him well in his future pursuits, and I know that he will continue to meet every challenge that he faces.

Many "highly educated" folks have a similar problem. This gentleman is likely eligible for a military pension and probably went to school on the taxpayers' dime as well. As a close follower of the team, since the game which Standing Bye is referring to, in which a number of starters were benched, motivation really hasn't been an issue. But the assumptions made here are pretty amusing. But I'll ask you Danny, what other motivational tactics would you suggest? Respond to this comment |

| nobodyimportant Thursday, May 16, 2013: 8:18 am More from nobodyimportant Neutral | That would be counterproductive for schools. Graduation rates are equally important in scoring school effectiveness. For many years, schools were criticized for passing failing students. | Shakika Wednesday, May 15, 2013: 7:53 pm More from Shakika Neutral | This article makes no sense at all regarding the re-zoning. I am more confused after reading this article than I was before I read the article. C'mon Ron, these guys are running us in circles. You need to figure out what they are really up to. Peel back the onion and see what they are REALLY trying to do! Holloway's comments raise more questions that answers. They are up to no good and this is part and parcel of annexation. I stated that "it looks like Mayor Holloway and you are making friends all around Martinsville." The article is pretty self explanatory, they do not want to wait and find themselves in a lawsuit, like we have now if Martinsville ever does want to annex them. This tells me they are being proactive in wanting to avoid the leadership of you and Ross Holloway at any cost. I also know that about 95% of the people who own land in the annexed area also signed a petition wanting to avoid you and Ross Holloway's guidance and management. So it is pretty obvious citizens surrounding Martinsville have no interest in anything you and Ross Holloway have to offer. Unfortunately for you this is not a rumor, I have the evidence.
