| Mayor defends auctioneering for city | |
| AMRFHSD Monday, February 18, 2013: 7:51 am | I am in no way a "fan" of the city government but I'll side with the mayor on this one.He did save us some money I believe and he'd probably be the one to bring in the right buyers round here.Right or wrong you gotta be a hustler to make it in todays world and be sure there's no politician that ain't one.The mayor has bills of his own to pay.He should sell some more of the junk in this fleamarket metropolis including the water dept. |

| AMRFHSD Wednesday, November 21, 2012: 2:44 pm | Agree with N.I. 100%....and I don't forsee gifted youth not wanting to become doctors because of "lower pay", or their parents not wanting them to pursue the health profession. We all know the stock market and banker carreers are much more lucrative....insurance actuaries, risk managment, statistics.Plenty more lucrative than a medical carreer. |
| A fan of Obama in Martinsville | |
| AMRFHSD Monday, October 29, 2012: 7:24 pm | I had no idea what was causing people to be so stupid as to want to vote for a morman game show host who can't remember his script.I don't watch Fox news because I don't have cable TV. My source of info is the internet and is infinite.I did just hear a commercial on WFMS that said gas prices had doubled since Obama ? I remember prices over $4.00/gal. with Bush in office.I'm from Martinsville but I'm not buying this crap people are being fed.Obama has my vote simply because I love my country and my children. |

| AMRFHSD Monday, February 20, 2012: 4:03 pm | Mr. Bell always made time just to deal with me personally when I was his student. No matter how hard headed I was, he believed that he could make some difference in me. He did. What you saw is what you got with Mr. Bell, he was the real deal. Great idea |

| AMRFHSD Saturday, January 28, 2012: 1:53 am | Did she say schools should ban water bottles and gatorade bottles? How about soil being banned too? As cannibus canned be grown in soil like food crops , etc......How would she feel if schools banned girls from having a hair-cut like her's ??? I think drug abuse education is hard to be taken seriously by students when it's being preached by a complete idiot, see "reefer madness". |

| Leaky fence provides Grand Valley shortcut | |
| AMRFHSD Sunday, July 31, 2011: 6:59 pm | I think I'd rather chance walking across the intersection at grand valley than crossing at 252 or ohio st. on foot and the having to walk all the way down 37. Wal-Mart should have been required by the city to build some pedestrian crossing when they built the store that ended all other stores in Martinsville. And I've seen alot of folks walking across there on there way to work at Wal-Mart so don't think there walking cause they are unemployed. |

| Shelter, chairs OK’d for city park | |
| AMRFHSD Tuesday, June 14, 2011: 2:39 pm | How about fixing the BASKETBALL COURTS ???? Then maybe the youth would have something to do besides burning the recycle bins and annoying the residents around central school. I think the fact that nobody can make a bunch of money off the small job of fixing the BASKETBALL COURTS is why it is being pushed aside in favor of these shelter houses that we don't even need. |
| City park board mulls strategies for improvements plan | |
| AMRFHSD Wednesday, May 11, 2011: 7:41 pm | Shelter house 1 is a great shelter house with a big fireplace that is very useful and when having get togethers with kids , it's nice to be right by the playground and pool(and big hill in winter when sledding). The restroom needs some work but there is plenty of newer restrooms close by and there are new restrooms at the pool as well. They close ALL the restrooms in the winter anyway ! It would be a huge , costly mistake to remove this structure that I believe was built by "The Civilian Conservation Corps" during the great depression. What are these people thinking? Now the basketball courts have become virtually unusable and the kids have recently taken there game play to central school, which I hear is causing some problems. They just need the goals replaced and maybe seal coat the asphalt and paint some lines on it.This wouldn't be a $150,000 project. All the old shelter houses should stay. They are solid structures that have stood the test of time and they have great fireplaces.I'm sure any new structures would not have such fireplaces, which are very nice on colder days and of course Santa likes them there when he comes every year!If these buildings were built by the Civilian Conservation Corps during the great depression as I suspect, they should be of historical significance. They were built by the greatest craftsmen in our country during a time when money was hard to come by.Even a $150,000 shelter house built today would not hold up like these structures. Please don't have them be torn down !Just fix the basketball goals for pete's sake and don't take 3 years to do it. |

| Phelps to be charged with five felonies | |
| AMRFHSD Tuesday, March 29, 2011: 7:34 am | I know all too well about the "juvenile justice" system. As a juvenile , one has almost NO RIGHTS at all in the Indiana court system. No right to a jury, No right to bail. It's pretty much set up like a trip to the principle's office, you have no say, your guilty and you get your "whacks" and that's about it. As an adult defendent he will have all those constitional rights he was supposed to be born with.He will have alot of idle time on his hands in prison ,I suspect, where he will be given access to a law library.Maybe someday he will find a use for his melon and self lawyer his way back to freedom. He got himself into this. When you try and take a life in cold blood you are done with childhood innocence forever.I've seen a bunch of very young men go to prison that didn't really need to (in my opinion), but this one signed up for it all the way.He knew the consequences, he wanted the spotlight that's now on him and WE MUST make an example of him. |
| Police seek theft suspect | |
| AMRFHSD Thursday, March 24, 2011: 7:11 am |
Actually I work for a living and wouldn't steal as much as a parking space. But I'm not one of you fools that think that because I see a picture of someone with "thief" written beside it that it's the holy gospel. I personally witnessed the flaw in this thinking about 2 yrs ago, right here in Martinsville..... To make a long story short and honest , I took my friend to the liqour store and I bought both our purchases. A few days later that same friend went back to the same store and his "surveillance photo" ,(and a very clear pic of him at that), was posted on the wall with "THIEF" written with a big arrow pointing at him. I personally contacted the store to no avail on a holiday weekend. Their response was "the camera don't lie, we don't want to hear it!" Until the following tues. morning when the girl who had originally reviewed the tape took a second look and saw that ,indeed , I HAD paid for the item that they had at first alledged he had stolen. Because they had only looked to see if HE HAD paid for it, but not watched the whole clip. Anyway, they just called and apoligized to my friend that morning and being the forgiving type he is that was good enough for him. True story , and it could happen to you. |

| AMRFHSD Tuesday, March 1, 2011: 8:01 am | The Manna Mission , with the grace of souls like Tom Tackett, will probably be the last building left standing in downtown Martinsville. If you woke up tomorrow and your dollar was worth nothing, the bars and the courthouse would fold with every other business. The buildings would decline into rubble,no Wal-Mart or anything else. The mission would survive with Tom there and not a salvaged 2X4 would ever be wasted. He can see the value of a salvaged person just the same as that salvage lumber.Tom is a very wise and kind alike, Arse is the extreme opposite. |

| AMRFHSD Saturday, January 15, 2011: 11:52 am | I've tried to read a few of her posts and I agree that she may have some mental issues but I don't see that she has broken the law.She does not put sentences together very well and it is so bad that I cannot understand most of her rants at all even. The courts are now going to waste a whole bunch of money prosecuting this, imprisoning her,and paying for her psychiatrist.I think the employees of the courts are making way too much of this.I'm much more concerned with protecting the constitutional right to free speech than anyone's facebook rants.I know that today's world is making us take peoples threats more seriously but putting people in prison for saying "boom" on facebook is not the answer. The truth is that there is very little we can do to prevent shooting rampages by disturbed individuals who are committed to carrying out these ruthless acts at all costs. The best we can do is be kind to each other. No one should be allowed to intimidate public officials or anyone else, but there is a big difference between sending death threats vs someone blowing off steam to there own "friends" on facebook.Throwing people in prison is not the answer, kindness and communication is the best defense. So why now try to make people afraid to say what they really feel to there own peers ? |
| Bond lowered on bribery charges | |
| AMRFHSD Saturday, December 18, 2010: 11:16 am | I don't like the direction this is going, and I feel sad for all involved.I hope all the parties involved in this can cool off and make the decisions best for their family.Divorce is like a bomb went off inside your family.Anyone who goes thru a divorce with children involved and does not get torn down probably doesn't care much about their family.I know most of the people in this case and my heart goes out to all of them as I know they are a great bunch of people.I could care less about the small town politics.I don't know all the facts, nor do I care to really, but this sounds to be more of a family matter, civil matter that has spiraled out of control into this criminal case.I am sorry for this family to have it's case brought into the town newspaper.Any family with 8 great kid's has done something right many , many times and now to see them spotlighted in the news for this bickering just isn't fair to any of them. And I believe Mr.Collier should be able to see his children, absolutely, unless there is some danger to them which has yet to be made public.I do not know Mr. Collier, I do know Scott and Missy.Again, my heart goes out to them all and I take no sides here because there's none to be taken except for the "family". I made alot of bad choices when I went thru my own version of this and my best advice to them is this: You are all a family still, your children, your ex-wife,ex-husband,your kid's step parents they are all your family now.You all have the same goal of healthy, happy, successful children.Don't destroy each other or yourselves because you are all on the same team like it or not.And to you Mr. Collier, I know how you must humiliated to have yourself in this situation, but Martinsville is a very small place in this world so try not to let your "public image" cloud your judgement, don't care too much about what Martinsville thinks about you, just care what your children think about you.Talk to your children (I myself would have to even if the judge ordered me not to)but don't talk to them about the issues with your ex or any of this, just talk to them about the good stuff. And I hope you have a good friend to talk to about the rest besides just the one who charges $400 an hour or whatever.I really doubt you are a "criminal" in this but the law may see otherwise.Either way life goes on and your kid's will still need you to be your best.To all of you; Please find peace and goodwill in your hearts this season, remember you are all on the same team still and there are forces at work to destroy families and there always will be.I wish you all the best and hope that soon you can all find a way to be a family without courts and lawyers again. |

| AMRFHSD Friday, October 1, 2010: 10:35 am | If the Hamilton county cop has no credibility then Hollis should never have plead guilty and agreed to pay for the $200+ sunglasses he broke in the struggle.I wouldn't have ! And with the recent events in Indy ,(BISARD CRASH), now is not the time to overlook arrogant ,drunk cops who think that they are above the law.Someone's life may depend on the example made in Hollis's case with his employment. |
| Officer pleads guilty to public intoxication | |
| AMRFHSD Friday, October 1, 2010: 1:58 am |
I myself have no power to decide much of anything for anyone other than myself. It's law enforcement officers who are givin these type of powers so why give that to someone who proves lack of self control, bad judgement, and disrespect for other police officers even. And I can imagine if you get drunk at barney on ice, use the opposite sex's restroom and try to tell the police how to do their job when confronted you'll be headed right to jail just the same.I think "Barney on Ice" fans might be a lil more rowdy crowd in general though. |

| Resident questions trash dumping along Ind. 67 | |
| AMRFHSD Thursday, September 2, 2010: 4:44 pm | The DNR conservation officer often pops in at the river near the dam looking for unlicensed fisherman and folks practicing illegal fishing methods.Sometimes the C.O. will give a violator an option of picking up several bags of trash on the river bank and carrying them out to the highway, instead of a citation and a stiff fine. Not a bad way of doing things, just need to coordinate with the right dept. to check for needed roadside pick-ups.The river needs the clean-up, especially there at the dam. |
