| Smoke-free advocates urge economic strategy | |
| Acer Friday, May 13, 2011: 12:57 pm | "According to figures presented by Williams, businesses spend up to $167 billion annually in direct costs associated with smoking, including higher health, life and fire insurance premiums, higher worker absenteeism, lower work productivity and higher workers’ compensation rates." Smoking has no bearing on workman's compensation rates. Workman's compensation rates are based on individual employee salary per year. So if the abesnteeism rate is lower, the salary would actually be lower (unless you are paid sick pay) therefore resulting in lower workman's compensation rates. And while I'm on it from a business standpoint. When the stop smoing do-gooders start paying my business property tax and mortage payments, you can start governing my private business interests. How's that for an economic strategy. What's next, no smoking in my own back yard. Microchips, vehicle mileage monitoring....how many times we take a poop? |

| Company to bring $12.6 million facility to Martinsville | |
| Acer Monday, May 2, 2011: 6:51 am |
The only sad thing I've noted is that you spreading incorrect information (polite for lies). Costin and a partner brought forth a proposal for an elder living community. They were given the blessing of the city to move forward, HOWEVER, the funding fell through on Mr. Costin's end and the project was dropped by he and the partner. I do believe that ANOTHER elder community was discussed and it also fell through. To no fault of the city. This current proposal is yet ANOTHER provider seeking out the city. Neither Mayor Deckard nor anyone else has stolen any ideas or taken any credit for "other peoples hard work". The Mainstreet Corp. came to the City. What is sad is that you are spreading falsehoods....you know kind of like a snake in the grass. |

Good to know that everything is perfect in Morgantown. |
| Company to bring $12.6 million facility to Martinsville | |
| Acer Sunday, May 1, 2011: 1:06 pm | Liberty, Liberty, What this is about, is 120.6 million dollars in economic impact for Morgan County over the next 10 years. That may be small to you, but it is a big step in the right direction for Martinsville. Holloway said, “It’s an even bigger thing than that, in that we believe projects beget projects”. “People will see this and decide maybe Martinsville is worth taking a look at.” And that Liberty is worth its weight in gold. Any business or community that wants to grow will assume some risk. No movement, no risk = standstill and degradation. The vacant property as it stands generates MINIMAL tax base AND NO JOBS! This facility will be providing tax dollars for improvements toward that district that the city cannot provide for WITHOUT A TAX INCREASE TO CITIZENS. In other words, it is a generator for tax money that would not otherwise exist with an empty field. The facility will provide JOBS! Did you miss the part in which it was stated that, “They wouldn’t have even talked with us in the beginning if we hadn’t started the process of setting up the (TIF) districts.”? Apparently you did miss it OR you chose to ignore that point. Without the TIF the districts in place, they would have moved on to another community and then you would have commenced wailing about that too. Which is what you seem to do best. You along with MANY others (including wannabe mayors) are not understanding what a TIF is and how a TIF “district” works. TIF money goes back into THAT district for improvements. THERE IS NO RAISE IN TAXES. The TRUTH is IF improvements are made to a property IN a designated TIF district/area, ONLY the tax money collected on the IMPROVEMENTS goes into THAT TIF DISTRICT fund for FUTURE IMPROVEMENTS. NO RAISE IN TAX FOR EXISTING/NON-IMPROVEMENTS. A TIF is a method to use future gains in taxes to finance current improvements, which will create the conditions for those future gains. Hence Holloway’s statement “It’s an even bigger thing in that we believe projects beget projects”. Too complicated for you? Get out of the dark ages. People like you keep us ALL at a standstill. Finally, the press release was provided by Mainstreet, Zeke Turner, CEO and chairman of the multi-million dollar, Midwest corporation. Not everything is a conspiracy theory. Pathetic. |

| City council candidates answer chamber survey | |
| Acer Wednesday, April 27, 2011: 12:57 pm | tlh, I have to agree with you, Deckard is the only choice for mayor. On the point of these "candidates" attending council meetings (or lack thereof),I have found that many of them, with the exception of Arthur (who is a member of the Plan Commission), Badger, Ferguson & Strader have not actually taken the time to attend regular City Common Council meetings. I heard that Spina & Price showed up for ONE a while back. I'm getting really tired of the comments from one candidate for mayor in particular, who is spreading falsehood regarding TIF districts and downgrading the need for our engineer. I have a clear vision of what kind of leadership most of the wannabe's would provide for the citizens of our community, and it's not pretty. |
| Meeting to address flooding | |
| Acer Sunday, April 24, 2011: 9:39 am |
Your argument carries no weight with any human being possessing an inkling of common sense. Approval of the "original" plot is a very far cry from the actual construction process. I do not recall seeing any mayor, past or present, manning a bulldozer or wielding an air nailer or laying drainage pipe at the build site. Fact: Mayor Deckard, prior to leaving office during his previous administration, acquired the funding for the Morgan Street project. The next administration under Mayor Buskirk, chose the garnishments, such as the street lights. So it's time to haul that tired, old, clunker of misinformation to the junk yard where it belongs. Quoting Albert Einstein, does not make one, Albert Einstein. |

Yet you did nothing to allay the problem. Who installed the drainage source? Was any drainage source installed? Was it installed backward? I do not appreciate your slang referral to the name of my community. |
| Meeting to address flooding | |
| Acer Sunday, April 24, 2011: 7:51 am | Who developed Artesian Acres, the city or a private, for profit, developer? Who installed the drainage, the city or a private developer? If the answer is "a private developer", why would the city, and ultimately, the taxpayers be held accountable for correcting this drainage problem? |
