| Dr. wins first battle with hospital | |
| Auntie Thursday, September 1, 2011: 8:37 am | FYI: Her new office will be behind Walgreen's in Martinsville in that strip mall. She doesn't have a phone number yet for her new office. Staff at Morgan Hospital are not allowed to give out information and St. Francis staff does not know all the details yet. I suspect that the new office will be open late Sept and you will be able to go to the office to make an appt or a number/ad will be in this newspaper when the new office is open. |
| Local doctor under investigation | |
| Auntie Thursday, September 1, 2011: 8:29 am | I know Dr. Polar personally. He is also my physician and the physician for my family and friends. He is a very good doctor. He is one of very few doctors that see patients who are in the hospital, he treats patients at several nursing homes and he volunteers his time at a free medical clinic. I'm not sure why he is being investigated but it is very unfortunate that he was thrown under the bus by a coworker (also a physician) publicly. |
| Judge denies modification for convicted molester | |
| Auntie Friday, April 8, 2011: 9:48 pm | I know the Constitution and if it is law to register as a sex offender and not live within a certain area near a school, the law should be followed. It is ILLEGAL to not follow the law. Part of the punishment is to register as a sex offender, be required to rehome themselves away from a school...that's part of it--you do the crime, pay the price. Molesting innocent children is a crime no matter how you look at it. Research shows that most sex offenders will repeat the act-whether they get caught or not and that the sexual behavior has happened in the past, prior to being caught. We live in a sick world full of evil and we need to each protect our children. |
| New threat reported at West Middle School | |
| Auntie Friday, April 8, 2011: 9:39 pm | Hoosier...it would be nice if your yard was cleaned up and not such an eyesore to the neighborhood and yes, as a matter of fact I do think I work harder than you. I don't think that the kids should have cameras on them, but if it would keep them safe and prevent perverted men, like those you want to protect, from taking the innocent lives from our children...I would put a camera on my child. |
| Adventure in drying clothes | |
| Auntie Thursday, April 7, 2011: 12:10 am | I loved your story. I have often wondered why a clothesline would be illegal in my neighborhood and I've never attempted to question it. I simply hang a few items indoors. With today's economy there should be community clotheslines around. |
| New threat reported at West Middle School | |
| Auntie Thursday, April 7, 2011: 12:04 am | It's a shame that the children can outsmart the adults and "security" at the schools! They have cameras that show who goes into the bathroom. I honestly think tha tmaybe they need to have an escort inspect each stall when the kid is done going to the bathroom. It's a shame but something needs to be done. Only other suggestion is to start making all the students wear a diaper and they can change it when they get home. ha ha ...that was just a joke. |
| Judge denies modification for convicted molester | |
| Auntie Wednesday, April 6, 2011: 11:56 pm | The laws are put in place for a reason. As God fearing people aren't we supposed to go by the laws of the land and obey them also? Are there any children living in the home in Brooklyn that this man wants to live in? Is he allowed to live with children? If the home is 1000 ft or closer to the school, he should find somewhere else to live and follow the law of the land. |
| Police in charge of security; schools want to get back to teaching | |
| Auntie Monday, April 4, 2011: 12:01 am | I'd still like to know why I find out more info from the newspaper than what the school will tell me. Paper said parents would get a call in regards to the note on the wall and safety. We did get a call, but it said nothing about the new threat of a shooting on 4-4-11, just said that police and grief counselors would be at the schools. I want to know if they found the punk that wrote the note, is it a real threat or what? I am not sending my kids to school Monday. |
| County, Ivy Tech discussing possibilities | |
| Auntie Thursday, March 31, 2011: 10:58 pm | Sunny, I agree that there are several areas in our community that are eyesores. I have often wondered if it is because of lack of money in the home, lack of motivation or laziness or maybe a combo of them all. Wonder if it would help putting together a group of people who would be willing to volunteer one day/weekend & go around and help clean up/repair/spruce up eyesore homes. Even with the eyesore homes in our community I don't think that it keeps businesses such as Ivy Tech from coming into our community. As MHS 1927, I also agree that past and current leadership has not pursued long term planning. It's sad to see so many large buildings standing empty for years. Instead of letting them sit empty for years, why not rent them out dirt cheap or donate them to an organization. |
| Prosecutor: Principal had no prior knowledge of shooting | |
| Auntie Thursday, March 31, 2011: 10:41 pm | Why won't someone tell us why the parents of Martinsville High School students received two automated phone calls the same week that the shooting took place, saying that there had been a threat that they were investigating? I still have it on my voice mail. No further info has been given. |
| Students, staff mourn East student’s suicide | |
| Auntie Wednesday, March 16, 2011: 5:20 pm | This is so sad. 12 yrs old! So very young. When this happened in my family, yrs ago, there were some that pointed fingers and blamed others in the family. Truth is, if anyone in the family knew this was going to happen-everyone would've done something. Sometimes you just don't know. Sometimes you can't get inside the head of a teenager & know what is going on or what they are thinking. Sometimes you can not get teenagers to talk to you no matter what you do.Sometimes they won't tell you what's going on, how they are feeling, what has happened to them. I suppose the best any of us can do is love our children, listen to them, if you see signs of depression-seek professional help, lend an ear to your children's friends when they need it and by all means when this happens in our community, extend a hand to help the family that is suffering, lend an ear when they want to talk and say a prayer to heal their pain.....for their pain is great. I know, I've been there. |
| Fighting homelessness | |
| Auntie Monday, February 28, 2011: 9:23 pm | although the Manna Mission helps men who have had previous addictions, bad situations ,etc....they do not allow residents to continue to use drugs or alcohol--those that choose to do that have to leave. I don't consider the Mission to be a free ride flophouse. While men are at the Mission they are required to do certain things to lead them to a better life. They don't just live there forever for free. One thing I have noticed is that when I tried to volunteer there to help out with anything they may need, I was always told there was nothing that needed done and was told they didn't need me. This happened on several occasions so I gave up and decided to volunteer elsewhere. |
| Man dies after rolling SUV | |
| Auntie Monday, January 31, 2011: 11:59 pm | This is so sad, what a terrible thing for a son to have to do. Please pray for this family. |
| City plan commission debates sign issues | |
| Auntie Thursday, January 27, 2011: 8:37 am | Kenny I agree. I also see several empty buildings with junk in the windows, old signs of businesses that are no longer there. Some of the buildings need spruced up and the inside cleared out. I don't see why the new businesses can't have the type of sign they want. Why not worry about cleaning up the empty buildings which could bring in new business. |
| Pressler family talks about mother’s death, lack of trial | |
| Auntie Monday, November 29, 2010: 7:43 am | I feel very bad for the family of Sandra. I know what it's like to lose a parent and that alone is very hard to deal with but to lose one in that situation has to be very hard to deal with. I also know that my husband had his arm-by the wrist- set by Dr. Reynolds when it was broken and it never healed correctly and was a mess. He had to go to the Hand Institute and they said that it was a horrible job of setting a bone. He had to have surgery on it because it was set crooked. If you took a survey of Morgan Co residents I am sure you'd find a common opinion of Dr. Reynolds medical practices. |
| Fire cuts blamed for man’s death | |
| Auntie Friday, October 22, 2010: 4:40 pm | This is such a sad situation. I don't think that areas should be cutting out fire department and ambulance services even if it does cost more taxes to pay for this service. Also, everyone should get out there and learn CPR and basic life support and first aid to help thier fellow citizens. It's very important. |
| Brooklyn council backs town marshal | |
| Auntie Friday, October 22, 2010: 4:36 pm | Wonder why Sams changed his tune? Chris stay alert and watch your own back coz what they are saying now may not be the truth. Chris you are doing a great job of turning Brooklyn around, keep up the good work |
| 75 white shirts show up at Brooklyn Park | |
| Auntie Friday, October 15, 2010: 11:08 pm | Chris Hester has my support and those who would like Brooklyn to hear thier opinion, call the Town Hall and let your voice be heard and show up at the town meeting. Let's hear what they have to say. |
| School threat neutralized, never credible | |
| Auntie Tuesday, October 12, 2010: 10:06 pm | My child was worried about this all wee! Is it proper punishment for the child that wrote this on the bathroom wall only be punished by having 9 days suspended out of school? He's old enough to understand what it means to do something like this in this day and age, he should not be allowed back at MHS. He should not be allowed back to this school. Zero tolerance. |
| Let’s help all those fighting cancer | |
| Auntie Tuesday, October 5, 2010: 7:17 pm | Years ago, breast cancer was not discussed, supported or talked about openly. It is because of supporters, survivors and suffers that the color pink has come to represent breast cancer. I am a breast cancer survivor. Pink ribbons show me that someone is supporting, funding, thinking about or trying to cure this disease. Other cancers are just as deadly. People who support other cancer research, information, etc should start promoting it. For breast cancer, it all started with a small group of people once upon a time. Now, you be the person to start the recognition of other colors of ribbons for other cancers. Get the word out, do something active unstead of sit back and complain. Take a supportive role in the cancer you want to end. |
