My heart is broken for Martinsville. Everyone involved needs our prayers today -- not our criticism. As we move down the road away from this tragedy, we should pray for needed changes in our system so this type of thing does not happen in the future. We should also pray for the guidance to know what WE can do to change things in a positive, constructive way, including the freedom to worship our God without censorship.

RevCarter put it well. We DO NOT KNOW all of the circumstances surrounding this incident. And to pretend we know how Chief Davis and Mayor Deckard will handle the situation is just wrong. I absolutely do not condone what these officers did to a troubled 10-year-old. (Yes, he must be troubled to be causing such problems.) However, I do not believe it is fair for others to jump to judgment and appropriate punishment without having all of the facts. I applaud Deckard and Davis for their handling of the news conference this morning and for giving everyone involved a fair chance. I will patiently wait for the results of their and the sheriff's office investigations. If I do not agree with the way they handle it, I will then take POSITIVE action to make changes in our administration. Sitting back and calling people names and passing judgment never solves anything. Working to improve our community and to get the right community leaders in place is the only answer. My heart and prayers go out to all of the individuals involved in this incident. Regardless of the resolution here on earth, we all will have to answer to a higher power for our actions as well as for our words.
