If you think I am a "she"/"her" why don't you come to see "me" (whoever you think I am) so "we" talk about it. Got balls? |

| Ed Thursday, January 27, 2011: 1:33 pm | Snake, (awesome name by the way) Apparently there is nothing that will make you happy. I want you to be happy. You say you want the freedom to do drugs, I say; have all the drugs you want. I want you to feel free to take them, use them; do them anytime you want as much as you want (preferably all at once) in the privacy of your own gated community. I’m not making you do them or not do them. But if you want to do them, that’s your choice. And if you choose, I want you to be able to do it on your very own special gated property. Live it up, shoot it up! Run around naked as a jay-bird if you like. I don’t care…. But apparently you are in to other people watching you while you are doing your drugs and you want to run amongst the rest of us. (Sorry dude but I’m just not into voyeurism, so I’m not going to watch you.) I say free drugs for SNAKE!! (As long as he lives on his own reservation with his like minded people.) |
| Spice ban passes House committee | |
| Ed Thursday, January 27, 2011: 12:28 pm | Snake and A Hoosier, I think you two are on to something. I say we give you and all of your buddies all of the drugs want! (I'll even give you any weapons and ammunition that you desire) I say we give you a 1,000 private acres (lets call it a "gated community" to live on. You don't have to abide by any "outside" rules. In fact I say live it up!! Do your drugs and have a great big 24 hour 7 day a week party! But once you take up residence on your private land, you have to stay there. Last man standing WINS!! |
| City plan commission debates sign issues | |
| Ed Thursday, January 27, 2011: 9:18 am | Kenny, You are right about the upkeep/restoration that needs to be done to improve the city square/"downtown". Let me make myself perfectly clear – I love our quaint, bygone time, old town center. Being a local business owner I believe in supporting our local businesses and I patronize the shops “on the square” anytime I can. However, there is a proven factor as to why "businesses moved away from there" and why the deterioration began. When the main thoroughfare (Indiana 37) was moved from the center of town to what at that time was considered "the outskirt of town” the traffic flow was pulled away from that area. The business traffic fell off and businesses began to migrate in the direction of “new” 37 as well. It can be seen as plain as day, today, along State Road 37. This has happened to large cities and small towns all across America. The lack of business and deterioration of our "downtown" will only be further enhanced by the construction of a LIMITED ACCESS interstate highway. What boggles my mind are the endorsements in favor of this interstate by people who truly believe that an interstate will bring more traffic and revival to our floundering downtown. The problem will only be compounded and will not only affect downtown but will further limit access to other outlying businesses. The people who endorse the limited access highway are many of the same people who have poured their heart and souls into saving/reviving the old town square. It makes me very sad to watch their struggle and know that IF the interstate is built, they are lending their effort to a battle that they, more than likely, cannot win. If we haven’t found a way to market and attract new business and visitors to our city now as it stands, while we have 6 access points from our East thoroughfare…. God help us when people won’t be able to see us for the noise barrier walls and the blur through their windshields as they race past us at 70 plus miles per hour with one (two at BEST) access points/interchanges. Have you ever traveled US 40/old route 66? Have you ever visited Charlotte, NC and meandered through “old town” or the “historical Dilworth District”? Take a drive to the old town center of Washington, IN. Sadly, this is what is referred to as bygone. |

| Surgeon general’s report means urgent need for smokefree policies | |
| Ed Sunday, January 16, 2011: 11:45 am | People cross the line when they try to enact government control of a legal substance in a privately owned business. Not one of the “endorsees” listed in this article was present for the co-signing of my business loan. Not one of the “endorsees” listed in this article has EVER stepped foot through the doors of my establishment, sans the handing out their tobacco cessation propaganda or on various occasions to ask for donation/handouts for their personal favorite organization. Not one of the “endorsees” gives a flying pig about my business until they want something from me, for their benefit. Bottom line. I can tell YOU not to smoke in MY establishment and ban you from my property if I like. YOU have no right to walk into MY establishment and tell me that I shall not allow smoking....UNLESS you want to sign your name on the dotted line of my business loan/business interests and become a contributor to all business expenditures and income. The chances of that ever happening are zero to none. The EPA requires that all motor vehicles in the United States be manufactured with an efficiently functioning exhaust catalyst system. All of you who do not have a properly functioning exhaust catalyst system and choose to ignore this requirement are guilty of polluting my air as you drive through my community. Although this is not illegal in Indiana, (with the exception of Gary), 31 other states in the U.S. require efficient functioning vehicle exhaust emission systems. I would wager a bet that a portion of the “endorsees” listed in this article are aware or have in the past been made aware of an emission polluting problem with their vehicle, but irresponsibly choose to ignore it. Maybe I’ll start lobbying for Indiana vehicle emissions testing (to cover the entire state and not just Gary) so that you are forced to take the black electrical tape off of your instrument cluster panel and expose your annoying little check engine light and shell out the cash to put your money where your mouth is. FYI: CO (Carbon Monoxide) PPM (Parts per Million): Average Level in home .5 – 5 PPM Emitted from properly functioning gas stove 5 – 15 PPM Home wood fire 5,000 PPM Inside a properly tuned & catalyst efficient motor vehicle 11.3 PPM Outside a properly tuned & catalyst efficient motor vehicle 11 –14 PPM The smoke from 20 cigarettes (1 pack), if distributed uniformly throughout an average sized house - up to 14 PPM. Ground Level Ozone Health Effects: Ground-level ozone, also known as smog, damages lung tissues and exacerbates existing respiratory diseases. Studies indicate that hospitalizations for certain respiratory ailments increase by 6-10% for every 50 ppb (parts per billion) increase in peak ozone exposure. Ozone is created when VOCs (Volatile Organic Compounds) and NOX (Nitrogen Oxide) in exhaust react with sunlight. |

| Undocumented immigrant sentenced to 20 years, faces deportation | |
| Ed Friday, January 14, 2011: 2:23 pm | "Because he is an undocumented immigrant, Lara-Sangines, 23, of Mexico, has a hold placed on him from the Department of Homeland Security and, after serving his sentence, he will be deported to Mexico"." Seriously? Let the DHS have him. Why should the good ole' USA care for him for 20 years or even 10 (with good behavior). He's already received 233 free hots and a cot more than he should have. Ship him across the border. I really don't want to care for him for the next 10 to 20. |
| Deckard formally announces re-election bid | |
| Ed Thursday, January 13, 2011: 10:07 pm | Sunny, I must add, even though the corruption and monetary waste is alarming enough, there is the burden that this interstate would put on our community. Not only would our police & fire rescue teams will be hampered by the dissection of the town (walling off of the East from the West), but the added crime that ALWAYS follows the path of an interstate and the potential for hazardous spills that accompany a freight highway are a huge concern. Not to mention the horrendous and often fatal accidents that occurs EVERY day on one or more of our 4 interstates. The claim that interstates are "safer" is just not true and it makes my blood boil every time I hear an INDOT official try to convince people of this falsehood or some poor, convinced, gullible soul repeating it. The next time you have the opportunity to speak with an experienced member of our Sheriff’s department, ask him/her about the extra “Interstate” training that they have been required to participate in and why. I am also aware of a few on our city police department who have a thing or two to say about the ramifications involved around interstates. I haven’t even touched on its impact on our quality of life, the human detrimental aspects of it or the immediate loss of businesses (tax base). i.e. tear down of business buildings in the path… and there will be many. This highway if built, is going to follow the foot-bed of St. Rd.37 right through Martinsville. There is NO guarantee as to how many interchanges Martinsville will get. There will most likely be 1 at the new 39 “by-pass” (which by the way, means to pass by) and POSSIBLY 1 further North, more than likely it would be (IF it is to be) an interchange that will combine state roads 44 & 252. The cost of an interchange, depending on its design, meaning a cloverleaf or a triangular (on/off ramps) can range from 30 million on up. It is one of the most expensive aspects of construction. Multiple interchanges can be promised to communities along the route and can AND HAVE been pulled from the final design. There is no guarantee. No interchanges, no people getting off the road. |

| Deckard formally announces re-election bid | |
| Ed Thursday, January 13, 2011: 9:22 pm | Sunny, If I could only connect a USB cable from a port in my brain to a port in your brain and download everything that I know regarding I-69, I would. I really wish I could. It would be so much easier. Once you are aware of the monetary gain and corruption; who is behind it and who stands to gain from its construction, you would have no indecisiveness about it. For anyone who has listened to and gathered information, possesses common sense, is willing to put forth the effort to research the facts and has the ability to understand the difference between right & wrong there is no gray area. |
| Deckard formally announces re-election bid | |
| Ed Thursday, January 13, 2011: 5:48 pm | "Although many people have opposition to plans for Interstate 69, the administration will work closely with the Indiana Department of Transportation to see that the interstate and Bypass projects benefit the city, he said." Sooooooo....lets go against the wishes of "many" people. With all due respect; It has already been proven, time and time again, throughout the entire process of attempting to build this giant waste of money that INDOT will promise cities, towns, people one thing while knowingly commencing with just the opposite. You can feel warm and fuzzy about “working with them”, but it will get you nowhere.... With all due respect. |
| State Senate responds to shootings in Tucson | |
| Ed Tuesday, January 11, 2011: 4:13 pm | I don't think Zack is in question. It appears that any assumed difficulty is voiced by Senator Paul. My reaction to Sen. Paul's statement was that he wants to take the risk and in my mind, he wishes to remain part of the problem rather than working toward a solution. Instead of taking precaution, he is simply saying why bother, it won't work. In my opinion, his statement is obtuse. |
