I am so very happy that you printed an artical about Gray Brothers Restaurant!!!!So tired of hearing from out of town friends and relatives commenting about what they "have heard"!They have changed hands ,food not like it used to be, prices to high and on and on. I always argue with them saying that I do not believe any of the going out of business stories. Some of us LOVE the Gray Brothers and have for years.All I can say if there are people who are not satisfied with the prices,quality and all the wonderful comfort food they have served for years,(We always know what we will be getting,no surprises like you get in all these chain restaurants ), go someplace else or purchase your food at the grocery and prepare it at home!!! On many of my travels by plane when the conversation turns to where I`m from which is Martinsville,so many travelers have heard of and been to Grays,even though they live in distant Counties. When my daughter and her family are leaving for Florida after a visit, their last stop is at Grays on the way to the Airport for one more delicious meal!!! Thank you again for your story.

About Peggy Mayfields Election Bill.Those out of stste students are able to be registered in their own home states and to vote Absentee!!! That is exactly what they should be doing,They most likely have no real interest in our county and state candidates or even know anything about them,so why should they be allowed to vote for any of them? They can vote for President etc from their own home states. Peggy is absolutely correct!

Again and again!!!! We just went through this a couple of weeks ago. Most people never even are aware of this " Boil Water" advisery and are using it anyway. The ones who are finally aware have to run out to buy water ( who ever even boils the water?)then empty ALL the ice and water from our refridgerators ICE Maker and cold water units!!!!! Not everyone listens to WCBK or suscribes to the Martinsville Reporter ( which may not be delivered or read until late in the day or evening. Does anyone else in this area want to know why these water lines are always breaking?

Plan would create bridge to Grand Valley

How often have you seen a foot bridge built across a interstate highway?I think this idea is another Redneck idea! It is true there are many without transportation in Martinsville ( as well as many other towns and cities)but they don`t have their own personal bridges built so they can get to a WALMART!!!!! People need to arrange for their own transportation whether from friends or relatives whether they have to pay a few dollars now and then, or the City could purchase a van with some of the money they are always planning to throw around to transport these people ( who evidentally have money to spend or they wouldn`t be going to Walmart and Restaurants!!!)Another plan could be for Walmart to have their own bus or van and go over to South St and Home Ave to pick them up!Those people put their own lives( and others ) in life and death situations. We were stopped for the light at Grand Valley and 37 when a man on a small child size bike whizzed past us with a Baby in one arm and a big package of Diapers in the other hand, he had to get off on the other side and push that bike and drag the baby down that hill and across fence!!!We were in utter disbelief ! that was Child Endangerment!!!! Someone needs to buld a 20 ft high fence with steel bars halfway up,if they cross somewhere other than the traffic light ,it is Jaywalking.

Doug,What a turmoil that annexation plan has caused the citizens of Washinton Twp.for months!What must the citizens of Martinsville think of the officials at City Hall now? All the tax dollars spent trying to get their plan through when the money could have been spent on things that needed to be fixed in the city. Hopefully, they will remember all of this when it comes time to elect a new Mayor, someone with ethics like yourself!!!!

I am so sick of hearing Ross Holloway mouthing off about how annexing here would be a big boom of employment here with all the new industry it would provide!!!Does he honestly think we people are so ignorant?Where on earth did he get HIS education? Anyone could tell him that Mooresville is NOT Martinsville. It is on higher ground and is NOT located in a quicksand area! I agree with the person who said " Why doesn`t he move his business and home to Martinsville ?" It is such a shame that the City is and has been paying him all this money to stir this whole mess up in hopes he can line his own pockets!!!! Thank God and Goodness for the Council Members who could not be brainwashed by this nonesense!!!! Doug, you need to be our next Mayor, we need one who cares about the people.

City park board rejects layoff idea

This town does NOT need anymore Murals, especially one done by Cheryl Allen!!! who is well known in the Court system. I have heard comments that not everyone admires these paintings.Persons may put them on property they own but for the City of Martinsville to put out taxpayer dollars for someone like Ms Allen to trash up the City park is beyond comprehension. I hope the Park Board rejects this entire idea!!!

RE Roundabouts! What about the planned roundabout on the Ohio St. Project in Martinsville? What are the City Engineer Ross Holloway, Mayor Deckard and City Council or persons responsible for this plan thinking??? How are the large Tractor Trailer trucks that are traveling to our factories in that part of town supposed to maneuver through the Roundabout? What about School buses and other large vehicles? This sounds like another big city plan for a small town that will not work.

I have believed from day one that this plan of the City of Martinsville to annex these residents into the city is nothing but a scam to help the city pay for all of their falling apart streets , water and sewer lines and everything else that is going wrong!I applaud Mr.Wayne Haas for telling it like it is, he is absolutly correct with all his facts!The city government knows this and still think they can pull the wool over the people who live in these areas who already have their own wells, city water and expensive septic systems and do not need the City intruding on their lives . The city built a new water tower off of Burton Lane 2-3 years ago and yet all the fire hydrants that were installed have been covered and not in use as the new tower has a problem and cannot be utilized!!!The idea of taking away the Washington Twp. Fire Dept. from this area and the City having to build another one in the annexed area and put in the uneeded sewer lines and send their broken down trash trucks out is another idiotic plan!!! Where in this floodplain quik sand area would they put these " Shovel Ready " building sites??? Martinsville is NEVER going to be a Brownsburg, Avon , Plainfield or even Mooresville!!Anyone of these City Government people who think so must have their heads in the Quicksand!! I recently went to 4 different places of business looking for Green Pepper plants and then again yesterday 4 differnt places looking for cement stepping stones , both times there were none to be found!!! A Lowes would have been nice but I think they just decided against Martinsville because of the soil for one reason. It should be against the Law to be able to force annexation onto these residents just to satisfy the City Planners pipe dreams and to take their money to help the City with all of its problems!!!

County races set up for treasurer, coroner, council, commissioner

Does anyone remember back several years ago when NEW Faces were elected to serve as County Commissioners and the whole County was thrown into a turmoil? I am referring to to the Jim Bowyer group which consisted of a fellow Good Old Boy and a lady Democrat who never had a say against her fellow Commissioners.What a mess that was and more bad press for our County. Some of these Candidates do need their backgrounds and qualifications looked into but do not say everyone in office needs to be booted out. In the past many office holders have not filled out their terms in order to keep their County employment ongoing, this is not something new. I don`t favor this but object to one candidate getting accused of this like it is something new! It seems that we have several " Armchair Politicians " commenting in this paper!

Whatever happened to the Three Strikes law? Does anyone know of anyone in Morgan County who has been sent up for Life after recieving 3 convictions? They just keep getting turned loose to commit more crimes! Put them in prison for life, there is always the argument that it cost too much to house them. Which is less costly, prison or letting them out time after time to continue another crime spree ,bringing harm to law abiding citizens. These same taxpayers will again have to pay to run them through the system again , paying for court appointed attorneys, not to mention the staffs for the whole court system, including Judges. No more free educatations in prisions either! No one wants to hire a convicted criminal either,so educating them is a waste of money. Put that tax money into our schools where it is needed! Maybe if people knew they were losing their freedom for life they would think twice about commiting a crime and thinking they were going to have all these "rights" in getting away with it. Our Court systems need a BIG overhaul!!!

Now that this girl is 17 and supposedly no longer a student,was she prostituting herself to this old ugly man ? I doubt that she would be in love with a creepy looking pervert like him!!! I am so glad that the State Police are investigating this and all the former rumors from years ago. Surely some of thses kids could testify about what they observed and have been told by this and other girls about these criminal acts. I am proud of the Martinsville residents who are " up in arms" over this situation and are speaking out to the School Board ,Law Enforcement and others who heard rumors and declared they couldn`t prevent it from happening year after year! Will anyone listen and investigate allegations like this now and in the future? There are so many Contestants around that people need to give serious thoughts about at Electoin time!!!!

The Little Nashville Opry fire was ruled arson. Who was the last person in the building? Were the owner and the manager asked to take lie dection tests?? If so , I`m sure they both refused!!! This is ANOTHER crime(as an example, Casey Anthony) where the indivduals who were suspected should have been convicted on circumstantial evidence. Look at their past connections to suspicious fires involving their properties!!! Of course I know that is not how the law works, what about all the ticket holders who will never get a cent of the refunds they are owed? It would not do any good for them to sue, you really cannot get blood out of a turnip! Two more criminals getting off scot free!

These County employees who choose to smoke should be held accountable by being denied the insurance or pay for their own. I know of one employee who was denied coverage because of a weight problem, why not the smokers? We have all ( maybe not the smokers because they do not want to face the facts) been made aware of the harm smoking causes,including eventually death. I have known companies to penalize employees on their insurance benefits for not living a healthy lifestyle. Why not Morgan County ?

I don`t know whether this shooting involved bullying or threats that others were aware of, so my comments might be irrelevant to this story.Many times when I`v heard these stories of suicide, injury or death these have been my thoughts.When some child has been known to threaten or bully another, it should be reported to the parent or guardian and law enforcement.The parent should then be held accountable to"crack the whip"( not physically) and "lay down the law to the offender that this behavior will not be tolerated!!! the parent needs to take their parenting responsibilites seriously1 Make sure their child is taught right from wrong and keep on top of the childs behavior. Set a good example for their child to begin with! I realize that in today`s world this is not always possible , especially with all this media stuff going on, but maybe it could open some eyes and prevent harm.

Instead of just shaking heads and passing her off as the village idiot, something should have been done regarding her actions years ago. Public officials and others have known or been made aware of her stalking and threats and insane actions.I have observed her sitting, mumbling to herself then slapping herself until her face was red! As for her being a canditate for Congress (or anything)she should have been made to undergo a psychological exam.( I realize that is not possible but.....).She has upset personel in business places not to mention citizens and their families with her actions. It is time for the proper officials and the courts to take her actions seriously!!!
