Hugh Jorgan,

Actually SCI REMC purchases it's power from Hoosier Energy. Yes, at certain distribution points power is bought from either Duke Energy, or I.P.L. "Via" Hoosier Energy due to economical reasons and territorial rights claims which can be set from the I.U.R.C.

In the past attempts to deregulate utilities have been done. The results...quality of service was lowered and the rates actually went up. Quality of service was lowered because the competing utilities can not work on lines and equipment that did not belong to the other, and why would they be in a hurry during a storm to restore service to a meter of a competitor...they would be the last to be restored. With deregulation also comes higher rates due to the fact that you have to pay a rental or service fee to purchase power from another utility equipment/lines.

Rural electrical or phone system means..."Rural". When you live a distance from a populated area the cost of transmitting, distributing, servicing customers goes up due to the lower customer base, and less customers to spread the cost around.

Unhappy? Call your board member, voice your concerns, attend the annual meetings, write your local and federal representatives who pass laws that lay heavier financial burdens on the entire industry.

Ron Schoolcraft,

I am Lineman for an Electrical Utility company. I am a member of the I.B.E.W. union, and find that myself and "most" of the men in my industry are far from anything close to lazy. I don't appreciate being labeled for a card that I carry in my wallet.

I'm not going to hold myself in high-esteem by saying this, but we work 30 hours straight at times after storms doing a dangerous line of work. I'm proud of my profession, am happy to be employed where I am, and enjoy it. Who knows?...perhaps myself and my union card will come to your residence one day to restore your electrical service. :)

I value common courtesy. My personal problem is I am on a constant high in this life. I use humor every chance I get...some like it some don't. I don't meet a stranger.

I don't feel disrespected when people don't reciprocate MY courtesy...however. I do get erked when I see teenage boys getting into the back of a van to play a video game while their mother loads the groceries!

A full grown man..berating a teenage girl for not refilling his drink fast enough in a restaurant, or walking by an elderly person knowing they may need help I want to say...

"Excuse me sir, I couldn't help but notice that you are a prime example of an %$!@ *%$# !@!$ is it genetic or did you achieve it with years of practice!"

I think you need to go to Seminary school, and take a deep rooted theology class. You have abused, and misused scripture on this blog on several occasions to mold it to your own personal views on schools, unions, and government. So, to get on Nobodyimportant for it, is quite contrary. I've pointed out your misuses before!

Please do those on here that don't know any better to your ignorance and lies, and move on!

How do you begin to sort through the causes, failures, and future preventions here?

We want to blame someone else aside from the young man who committed this horrible act. Be it from video games, to movies, to his mental stability/capacity and family history. The second amendment being called into question. There is even the faculty and staff being blamed.

I can't see a rational mature adult in the position of principle not adhering to the warnings from students of such a nature in this day and age. I could be wrong and it will come out in the investigation. Of course there are people that think President Bush knew that 9/11 was going to happen as well.

How do you stop something like this from happening again?

I understand there are a lot of upset members of the community, parents, and staff and rightfully so. It's tragic. But sometimes evil is just simply what it is evil.

So what do you do? Make schools like the TSA security at the airport at the entrance doors and scratch the right to bare arms from the constitution?

I just don't know.

Would that include Martinsville?

The crime rate isn't exactly astronomical here. And no, none of your circumstances apply to me.

No no no Liberty. You can't have your cake and eat it to. Why is it okay for one person to do it at the workplace and not a group. That is a Double standard.

The employer wouldn't have to deal with a Union if it treated it's employees right. Treat them right, and they will never have to organize. Like the foreign car companies that you speak so highly of...RIGHT????

A group of people dosen't just band together one day and say "Hey lets get greedy". Union employees are free to leave anytime they want just the same. And the employer can replace them just the same.

I seem to remember the GM and Chrysler managers flying their corporate private jets to Washington to ask for help. Yet it's the Unions setting a bad example. When I look at overall prices between the two it costs about the same and Toyota at times cost more. I have never had any problems with Kroger. Yes you are picking on union members, with your stories and being rude and offensive.

PARENTS! Pay no attention to Liberty. If you read enough you will notice numerous flip flops. And back pedaling when he is proven wrong. He wants to blame unions for the country's problems and for your child's lack of education. If you want your children to succeed in life you have to be the leader and be involved no matter where or how they get their education.

Soooo... I guess if a non-union employee applies/gets a job offer from a competing company and tells his/her supervisor "I will stay if you pay me more then what they well." that isn't extortion in any form?

Boss' are under no obligation to keep their employees past the deadline of the contract. They can lock them out, and hire contractors to do the work until they temporarily shut the business down and restart it under another name!

When a person hires into a company I guess they have no right to ask for a specific pay, or have no right to ask for a raise?? They should just accept whatever circumstances come their way without complaining or so much as even letting out a sigh.

The unions had NOTHING to do with jobs going over seas.

Liberty,

Okay, as much as I genuinely and consistently disagree with you and your posts, I can't sit by and not post a response on this one. It will do no good to shake your idiocies and you will probably respond with another twisted sense of reality as you always do. I really dread to get you going, but you are taking scripture out of context. For the sake of people that might read your posts, that don't know better I will respond.

This passage from the Bible...

"When evening came, the owner of the vineyard said to his foreman, “Call the workers and pay them their wages, beginning with the last ones hired and going on to the first.” The workers who were hired about the eleventh hour came and each received a denarius. So when those came who were hired first, they expected to receive more. But each one of them also received a denarius. When they received it, they began to grumble against the landowner. “These men who were hired last worked only one hour,” they said, “and you have made them equal to us who have borne the burden of the work and the heat of the day.” But he answered one of them, “Friend, I am not being unfair to you. Didn’t you agree to work for a denarius? Take your pay and go. I want to give the man who was hired last the same as I gave you. Don’t I have the right to do what I want with my own money? Or are you envious because I am generous?” So the last will be first, and the first will be last. (Matt. 20:1-16)"

Here is a very credible, and in my opinion (and many others I have asked) the correct theology on this parable...

As you know, a parable is a heavenly story set in an earthly context. Everyone and everything is symbolic. The key to unlocking a parable is to correctly interpret the symbolism. Here’s my view.

The vineyard represents the body of believers and the landowner is the Lord. The workers are those who respond to His call, the work is their belief (John 6:28-29) the day is their lifetime, and the wages eternal life. All through our lives God is calling. Some respond early in life, some later and others at the very end. But all who respond receive eternal life. For it is by grace you have been saved through faith, not by works (Ephe. 2:8-9).

More on this parable in this link

http://gracethrufaith.com/selah/parables/the-parable-of-the-workers-in-the-vineyard/

Do you think it's wise Liberty to be taking passages from the scriptures out of context, and using it for your own personal agenda? Do you think that spreading hate and discontent for a group of people is showing Christ's love, or turning people away from God altogether because of your actions? Though I am obviously just as guilty!!!

Am I to understand that you truly believe that Christ was talking strictly on the basis of earthly employer/employee relations?? No...he wasn't. So...if you worked 10 hours in one day for 100 dollars doing...whatever, and the same fellow paid a man 100 dollars for the same work for 1 hour, You would be 100% okay with that? Would you go back the next day bright eyed and bushy tailed wanting to work again? REMEMBER...these questions are strictly a non spiritual earth based hypothetical situation. If your neighbor hired one of your children to paint the fence and worked most of a Saturday doing so, and at the last bit of the day hired another kid to do the same thing and paid them the same, You would be all right with that?

Back to the workplace!
A person should be fired for reciprocating the same tone, that they receive. Blacklisted? Granted, I suppose one should have respect for authority. Kind of like your salute the rank not the man mentality.

What if a supervisor was screwing off not doing his job,(as it DOES happen in the real world Liberty) and production suffered because of his/her incompetence. Along comes that persons supervisor wondering what the deal is and the man turns around and blames his/her incompetence on their subordinates. I suppose next you would say that a person should keep their mouth shut and take the blame because they are "the boss".

Or what about whistle blowers that catches management doing something illegal? Or try's to involve a subordinate in their illegal activities by threatening their employment.

Here's the deal about Sunny's critique on eye witness accounts of "Play time at work". What is good for the goose is good for the gander! Why is he Lowly? Because he is a blue collar worker? You have the right to be a heavy critic of unions/workers but no one has the right to be a critic of management? You don't think Management makes decisions that effect the output of goods or quality of service? If you ask me that is just a plain observation of everyday life. Ratcatcher just posted something to that effect about a company he used to work for. Correct me if I am wrong Ratcatcher. Did you see a company name listed? Do you know who he/she is?

I made an agreement with my employer in good faith. I intend to the best of my abilities to honor that agreement.

Bottom line don't open your mouth, degrade people, organizations, take spiritual matters out of context, and non-stop beat a dead horse then expect people to understand and not refute your biased attitude.

By the way, do you have a job? Are you by chance in management?

Bluecollar and Nobodyimportant,

Kudos to the both of you on those fine written opinions.

Nobodyimportant, I believe people have forgotten why Unions were formed in the first place. It's a pendulum effect. It has been long enough that this generation of people and workers forgot how hard the Old generation had to fight/strike/be under pressure to get the benefits that we enjoy today. So now that enough time has past corporatist groups are taking advantage of that ignorance and seizing the opportunity.

When their collective bargaining rights are gone, and the wage standards go down, and they have a power hungry *#&$@*$$ boss that fires everyone for kicks they will be screaming for the unions to come back.

As far as Liberty is concerned pay him no mind, I gave up when he informed me that I wasn't a professional and my work ethic was lousy.

In confronting some backlash of Arse's comments I can give the following testament to his comment. I have donated things to Manna Mission in the past, other then that I have no knowledge of how it operates, or who runs it.

I have a cousin that has been in and out of every type of shelter, halfway house, and institution there is. This all started with him after he stole money and personal belongings from myself and my family members, and we stopped enabling him. He had many many chances and opportunities to change his life but chose the path of drugs, and a roof over his head for the night. There was no desire to change and he is still the same way today. So I know for a fact there are those types of "Shelters" out there, some of them funded by taxpayer dollars. Again, I can't say if this is the case with Manna Mission.

I am not sure what Mr. Zike's comment meant. It would appear that Arse has had some personal experience with this as well, judging from his reaction. I will say this, as far as drugs go, you can do nothing to help someone who is addicted unless they want to help themselves.

It's a kind and thoughtful thing of human beings to help those that are in need, and to donate so much of their time, while I sit on my lazy rear end watching television.

Liberty,

I am a clear thinking, rational adult capable of forming my own opinions and gerenally have a non-conformist attitude to life. That mentality enables me to regulate a healthy thought process in decision making. If anyone is brainwashed it may be yourself. There are many mental healthcare proffesionals that offer their services locally that could help you.

I have worked both Union and Non-union in the labor force in my life, and found deadbeats in both; where as someone had to carry them. Therefore, that subject has no matter here. Wages? They are based on a scale, and position. Call it socialist or whatever, but that is the way that I see it. The union doesn't fire or hire anyone. I have watched men get fired from union positions because of lack of performance, safety violations, calling in sick too much...etc... All the union does is protect a worker from getting terminated UNJUSTLY

Companies go overseas or to Mexico not only for the five dollar a day labor, but they don't have to abide by safety standards, pollution regulations, child labor laws, code enforcement for buildings etc... Then the manufactures bring their products back into America and it costs the same! Imagine that! You can thank the Nafta agreement and our elected officials that bought buy corporate lobbists to pass that! And still contribute to that coffer to this day. Also, non-union manufactures went out of the country as well!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

There are three major labor unions in japan that make the parts for their automotive compaines. It was deemed more cost effective to put plants in America the biggest buyer of their products...wages and benifits weren't a factor.

Unions don't destroy communities or impose a risk factor on crime rates! The calibur of people living there do. Where do find more crime at, a city or rural community? It's not that hard to figure out!

Geez Liberty...

I take great offense to recent post. I am a member of a Union and I feel that I am very professional and dedicated to my job along with many of my co-workers. Perhaps I should keep that in mind next time I am working a 24 or 30 hour shift in adverse weather conditions to restore electrical service to your house.

Your view/opinion on Unions are completely misguided, ignorant, and astounding! Have you ever been a member of a Union? Oh wait...you might be a corporate executive that hates the fact that you have to negotiate with your workforce rather that just simply exploiting them!

I tried to give you the benefit of the doubt in the past, but now I am marking you off as inconsequential to me and to the community.

Lilamae,

I am a member of a Union. This is what I have come to understand about paying Union dues. You have a right to take a withdraw from the Union. You will not receive Union representation, or any contractual guarantees the bargaining unit has with its employer.

I have spoken with many of my co-workers in other non-union positions in the company and they have often told me that during our negotiations they hope that we receive a good agreement, because they usually get what is comparable to us.

Rather you like the union or not, they are responsible for the creation and flourishing of a strong middle class. There are many middle class jobs that are non-union, but they have to pay well to keep their employees from leaving or from organizing into the union on their own. Just look at the history from when Unions started.

The Union is always willing to negotiate and understand where employers are coming from. I fail to understand when pennies are being pinched why these big executives don't offer to cut their own wages and benefits. They are the highest paid right?...with company cars, jets, phones, computers, travel expenses to a luxury hotel etc... I haven't heard Mitch or the supporters of this bill offering any of their paychecks up.

I read Mitch's statements about this bill and the Union in today's paper. It is simply nothing more then an attack on the Unions just like in Wisconsin. That is the whole purpose behind it.

I would like to say thank you for sticking to your guns on this issue. It's nice to see that the Mayor is concerned with the city employees wages and benefits.

I believe that the dispatchers from what I have witnessed and come to understand do a good job.

I fail to understand why the state would hand down a mandate without so much as funding a penny to accomplish it; or in the relatively short time frame to do it in.

I am curious as to what the city/county can do as far as petitioning the state on an extension for the deadline. That way if there is a need for a temporary tax, or an agreement for joint funding allocation between the three entities there would be a little more time.

I went to Martinsville School's for my entire education K-12. I was never taught any of the evil things that you mentioned time and again that happen in our schools. I have a close personal friend that teaches at Mooresville High School, and when I asked him about the allocation of his Union dues, he said the things you speak of are non-sense.

I will give you this, private schools and christian schools may provide a higher quality of education. I really don't know.

As far as Martinsville Schools go, I think we have a great school system with dedicated teachers.

My friend I spoke earlier...he spends a great deal of his off time grading papers, preparing lesson plans, speaking to parents(the ones that actually care about their kids) adjusting his format to each group of kids. That is a lot of work for him to do.

I think the teachers have a right to protest their government. That is what America is all about!

I want to leave you with this bottom line Liberty, if someone is like minded with you they can take their child out of the public school system and put them somewhere else. We have that option. You want to totally dismantle the public school system which is wrong, and I am telling you education will not work without government funding. It just won't.

If you would please, just chill out. I would like to see you post on something else for a bit.

Reality you are right about the history.

Israel was a nation LONG before Palestine, or Islam was ever even thought of...were talking thousands of years here.

Jews HAVE ALWAYS been in Israel. Over the previous two thousand years they have been occupied by the Romans, various European powers, African powers, mid eastern powers. But regardless there has always been a Zionist presence there.

God gave that land to Israel. It is rightfully theirs. Islam didn't become a faith until around 680 a.d., and besides their holy land is Meccah in Saudi Arabia.

None the less the argument is, the Jews saying "we were here first", and the Palestinians say "we are here now"

I don't think that Israel is occupying any land but their own. I don't hear of the Israeli government training 14 year old suicide bombers and sending them off to kill twenty to thirty people. I can certainly understand them going after Hamas or Hezbullah. If the Palestinians would work toward peace as hard as they did violence this whole problem could be solved. Every time Israel try's to back off and work toward peace the extremist groups bomb them!

If you are of a secular nature, then just look at written history. You can't deny it. The Jews were always there and always have been. It's their land. I can't understand how people have the nerve to say that they stole it from the Palestinians...It's fundamentally.....ignorant.

I will first let out a big sigh. This is caught up in the same type of debate category as abortion. It will be endless.

First and foremost I am a Christian. I agree with you Nobody. The Lord is very clear on his definitions of "Sexual Immorality". However, understanding that in today's world our dominant shared opinion is diminishing in this country.

I don't flat out hate anyone. I get very enraged when I see people holding signs that say "God Hates Fags". That is why the church gets the stereotype that it does, and turns people away.

I will not support any federal amendment to the constitution that either supports or bans gay marriage. Why? It's very simple I am a constitutional abiding citizen first. Marriage is a strictly a power of the state; although some may argue that states rights went away after the civil war. Marriage should be dealt with at the state level.

My secular argument to oppose gay marriage is this... How would we procreate? I have heard some say... "What about surrogacy?".... Okay...and how long has that been around? My second part is this... Life is one big choice, outside of breathing and dying. I witness people jumping in and out of the so called "Closet" all the time. That tells me it's a choice.

In all respects its very easy for someone to just mind their own business and pay no attention to your neighbor and let them do what they want that is the liberal side of it.

Example being...
How is it going to affect you?
How is it going to affect Indiana?
How is it going to affect Martinsville?

I can see how that can be a logical argument. I just can't in good conscience support it. It's seems to be by it's very nature unnatural.
