| Rescue links food to people who need it | |
| LilaMae Friday, June 14, 2013: 9:22 pm | This is a good thing...People can also start gardening and raising there own food sources..seeds and a little dirt go a long way towards putting food on the table!!! The benefits are endless.... |
| Cost of driving going up | |
| LilaMae Thursday, June 13, 2013: 9:28 pm | In reading this article it confirms what most of us already know. Society is not interested in how much it will cost those of us supporting them neither are those sitting within the group that passed this. 52% on some type of govt assistance...but yet those 48% will continue to foot the bill. This imbalance can't last. Btw..it wouldn't have mattered if the room had been packed or how many showed...it was going to pass anyway..bottom line the ones handling the money need to do a better job. Quit passing your inability to manage funds off on the taxpayers. Period!!! |
| Ashland trustee charged | |
| LilaMae Thursday, June 6, 2013: 7:20 pm | Absolutely wake up. There is no need to have a township level of govt period. Heck saving dollars just from what was mentioned in this article would be something..there are two many chances for an individual to under perform or take advantage of their position with no checks and balances! |
| Teachers want sweet treats banned from birthdays | |
| LilaMae Tuesday, May 28, 2013: 10:18 pm | Teachers should look at themselves and their food choices to be the examples for the children. I have seen coolers specifically for teachers loaded with soda, sweets etc with a lock on it. If we expect our children to improve the example to improve as adults should be priority. |
| How does Neil Armstrong’s garden grow? | |
| LilaMae Sunday, May 26, 2013: 8:56 pm | What an awesome thing for the school to encourage gardening. It would be great to see Martinsville schools get involved with this type of education for our younger generation! |
| City changes law firm for annex | |
| LilaMae Wednesday, April 24, 2013: 10:10 pm | I agree with you Shakika unfortunately our town representation is only concerned about adding more dollars to their coffers through taxation without regard for the voters who put them in their "public servant" positions. Since a blind eye has been turned from the mayors pilfering habits via his 'real estate' biz, There is very little faith in any other of Martinsville's govt officials going to bat for us and our tax dollars. |
| City to buy new fire truck | |
| LilaMae Tuesday, April 2, 2013: 6:57 pm | Integrity is severely lacking in our council, mayoral and overall governing bodies. There are a select few that would be excluded from that statement..actually only a couple. |
| Letters, petitions no longer accepted for BZA meetings | |
| LilaMae Wednesday, March 27, 2013: 9:53 pm | So, what was the overall reason to discontinue letters and petitions. If I am reading the story correctly, Peden wore them down with his opposing opinions towards the boards suggestions and the board had to vote so OK we will go with what Mark said. Here's an idea read the Indiana Code..36-7-4-411. |
| Police: Toddler apparently shot himself with handgun | |
| LilaMae Thursday, March 21, 2013: 5:49 pm | Common sense is not common anymore! |
| Former street/water superintendent worries about water quality | |
| LilaMae Saturday, March 9, 2013: 6:54 pm | That is the main issue there are politicians with no water skills wanting to run a utility they know very little about. Experience should speak volumes in thus case. |
| Water manager promises improvements | |
| LilaMae Thursday, February 28, 2013: 9:08 pm | Wonder if anyone from the town of mooresville is reading the last two paragraphs of this article. That's what will happen to them if the town gains control of their water system. As far as the Martinsville office is concerned "customer service" goes a long way. Friendliness and willingness to help your customers and mean it probably would have avoided an article of this nature. Maybe after 27 years its time to get out of the water business... |
| Businesses have mixed reactions to water rates | |
| LilaMae Thursday, February 21, 2013: 5:56 pm | I'm confused as to why all these businesses believe they will have a cheaper rate if ran by the town. The cost to cover maintenance and operations will drive dollars up not down. The system itself is becoming older by the day and that means replacing old with new which is not cheap. I'm still interested to know who has the certifications to operate this system as well as how it will be maintained. How will water quality issues be handled when a main breaks because it will happen. The argument does not only encompass dollars it has issue with all of the above. I'm hopeful IAWC prevails. This town is not prepared to handle what they are wishing for. |
| City considers new utility charge | |
| LilaMae Tuesday, February 12, 2013: 9:01 pm | Mark that is exactly what I was thinking. Where's the experience to make these decisions. Since Umbaugh was called in to project costs, its obvious no one sits on the panel with any the actual industry expertise. Also where have the "leaders" been while the infrastructure has been declining. Who's been minding the cookie jar for those expenses? It sounds like as long as the state kept paying no one monitored any portion of the dollars being spent or asked questions about sustainability / cost or cared about maintenance/replacement of the system. But I'm sure now that the good 'ol boy club has moved in there will be progress..right Gary? |
| Accident sends two to Indianapolis hospital | |
| LilaMae Monday, February 11, 2013: 7:19 pm | Training opportunities all around in this scenario. I'm hopeful they are recognized and acted upon sooner than later. |
| MSD of Martinsville discusses arming teachers | |
| LilaMae Wednesday, January 30, 2013: 6:26 pm | Out of all the comments where is the solution....I personally don't believe there is any one idea that will further increase safety effectively. If one is ever presented there will be constant disagreement with a solution never to be found because everyone knows better than the next guy. That's what is so ridiculous!!!! |
| Rediscover report laments condition of downtown buildings | |
| LilaMae Wednesday, January 23, 2013: 1:07 pm | I am amazed at the unwillingness to address the structures needs just because there are ordinances in place allowing these owners to do nothing. Change the ordinance..adopt new ordinances..resign the ordinances in place. Ross your statement relating to the current language as "probably" the issue for non-compliance is a sign the talk needs to stop and writing needs to begin. The disappointment in our towns leadership is growing by each scenario such as this. It is an embarrassement frankly! |
| MSD tries to avoid teacher evaluation issue | |
| LilaMae Sunday, January 20, 2013: 5:34 pm | Evaluations are time consuming...Children undergo rigorous evaluations in the form of ISTEP each year going through days of testing not just hours. I don't think It's too much to ask for our Educators to be required to complete an hour or more of testing to ensure they have passed the necessary requirements to continue teaching. Let's not lose sight of the need towards evaluation just because no one wants to take the time for it. |
| Mooresville files lawsuit to condemn Indiana American Water | |
| LilaMae Saturday, December 29, 2012: 9:28 am | Those costs will be transferred to the customers. The city of Martinsville were just granted a 40% rate increase by the IURC. If the residents of Moorsville currently receiving water from IAWC don't think the Town of Mooresville won't go for a rate increase if they receive control of the utility, they need to get in the here and now! Operational costs alone will force the Town to go for an increase! As my two year old grandson would say, 'it's comin'"!!! |
| Town takes next step in water system takeover | |
| LilaMae Monday, December 24, 2012: 5:05 pm | What is the town councils experience at running a water utility? Langley may have previous town manager experience not water mgmt and his own statement indicates he is not interested in running it. So who does that leave? Council is clearly over their heads in this one. The maintenance and operation alone is not a cheap undertaking. I would question the council experience in running this utility against a utility that has been running and operating a system effectively and clearly within the rate structure of most water utilities for this size of town. There are two many variables in this equation to trust that a town council will have the ability to deliver a safe reliable water product for the town of Mooresville instead of a company that continues to be successful in that arena. |
| Forum with author aimed at tackling poverty | |
| LilaMae Sunday, December 9, 2012: 12:15 pm | Tackling poverty is about empowering people to want to work and take care of themselves..there are more people that want a hand out rather than want to work for it. Figure out how to change that mentality..then tackling poverty will turn itself around. |
| City to consider buffer changes | |
| LilaMae Wednesday, September 26, 2012: 7:35 pm | I find it amazing that any one person holding some sort of political position within Martinsville always is approved for whatever the request. A resident asking for a similar request gets the process continued for review repeatedly and then ultimately gets denied. There is no moral character or integrity toward the people of this town..Its all about what "they" get out of it. No wonder we are the laughing stock of ours and surrounding counties. Figure it out people! |
| County to sue resident over equipment stored on land | |
| LilaMae Tuesday, September 11, 2012: 6:59 pm | Bottom line what does Mr Allison own that the county is hoping to gain from. With Kenny Hale involved there is a motive for gain with no regard for the individual or their situation. I guess farmers haven't had it bad enough this year! |
| Former police captain in critical condition | |
| LilaMae Thursday, August 30, 2012: 10:43 pm | We are praying for you and yours! |
| Michelle Obama: My husband will protect middle class | |
| LilaMae Friday, August 24, 2012: 6:22 pm | Well Mrs Obama I am one of the working middle class. My taxes have increased in the last four yrs. My medical insurance costs have gone up along with my co-pay costs thanks to the wonderful coverage of Obamacare. My property taxes went up just this past year. Food costs, fuel costs and overall needs have gone up. There are no "good" long term jobs out there unless one gets so indebted through college tuition costs and one can beat out the other 1500 applicants. Mostly a minimum wage job is what is available. Your husband touted change in his last campaign...this is not the change our country needed nor can it afford to stay on this path. I am pretty sure anyone that is not on government assistance will vote his change out! I know that's my plan. |
| ‘Wash wall’ finished | |
| LilaMae Saturday, August 18, 2012: 4:51 pm | I love these murals. The talent is awesome. Thanks for brightening those block walls! |
| Resident questions Bible Club’s presence at open-house | |
| LilaMae Saturday, August 18, 2012: 4:43 pm | OMG...now your daughter has learned to make a big deal out of nothing. Really mister..you have now managed to single out your daughter in an already tough environment for kids. Father of the year..I think not! |
| Serious about gun control | |
| LilaMae Monday, July 30, 2012: 6:55 pm | Its pretty common knowledge if you have a brain, guns don't expel bullets by their own free will. I know its hard to believe but still quite true. If you have an unprotected household and live outside of city limits for more than a ten minute drive, I believe it safe to say if the bad guy has the gun and the innocent victim does not, evil I.e. bad guy will prevail. Folks you can't fix stupid but you sure can call it out! Wow! |
| Coconut come home! | |
| LilaMae Wednesday, July 25, 2012: 7:47 pm | Wow this is where my subscription money is going. |
| Botox party at Mooresville salon | |
| LilaMae Tuesday, July 24, 2012: 9:00 pm | As a former patient of Dr. Shorts I think I will steer clear of this event. Not a good ending to my cosmetic surgery by this Dr. All the while being told it would be fine. Then when the realization became apparent that it would not be fine nothing was done or recommended to fix the mistake. Unfortunately my surgery was not elective but medically necessary due to skin cancer. I have the scar and my new dermatologist stating this could have been avoided. Too bad my insurance would not approve my second opinion. Oh well, take a word of advice: God intends for us to age gracefully if you take care of your body and overall health. We don't need this type of "miracle" to slow down the aging process. |
| Two annexation meetings scheduled | |
| LilaMae Wednesday, July 18, 2012: 8:14 pm | Bottom line, they want the money of the township residents not their opinion. Typical! |
| City one step closer to lawn-watering ban | |
| LilaMae Monday, July 16, 2012: 6:30 pm | Scott people will not cooperate. They figure they are paying for it why can't they use the water. Very few are thinking of conservation concerning water. It might help them to know that the water system for the City of Martinsville is fed from Wells not 5 or 10 Wells but 2 wells; there are no reservoirs, or any other backup system just 2 Wells. Present them the facts associated with where the water source is and what condition it is in and then you will know if they care. It will be shown in eliminating the extra consumption and you will not see the overages you are seeing now! |
| Little League coach accused of head-butting umpire after game | |
| LilaMae Monday, June 18, 2012: 6:02 pm | Its a game..I.e fun, learning play time. No wonder society is spiraling as it is. Kids deserve better...alot better! |
| Coach gets tickets on way to celebration | |
| LilaMae Tuesday, June 5, 2012: 7:07 pm | We tell our children to obey the law, the law was broken. In a revenue driven society how much is banked from a warning ticket? Hence 12 revenue gaining citations. Always follow the money.. |
| Teacher resigns amidst charges | |
| LilaMae Thursday, May 24, 2012: 10:09 pm | I thought there would be others with all the things that have transpired over the years. Those that sit in the higher chairs have been given the sign with the close of the investigation. I wouldn't breath easy though....Karma is always on the lookout for ways to come back around. |
| City annexation: Round 3 | |
| LilaMae Thursday, May 24, 2012: 10:06 pm | Deve - you hit the nail on the head....our leaders are overcome with "Envy" of other towns. Any bible reading individual knows there are countless versus that deal with this topic. My favorite....James 3:16 - For where jealousy and selfish ambition exist, there will be disorder and every vile practice. |
