| County takes next step on dispatch center | |
| Patriot Tuesday, June 18, 2013: 3:24 pm | "Frans Hollanders, 911 assisstant director, said an as-yet-unhired new director for the center would cost $60,000 a year and an assistant would cost $30,000 a year. He said he would take the assisstant position to make sure the new director transitioned well into his or her new position" So he (Frans) has just appointed himself? No posting, no interviews, nothing? Amazing how this seems to play out and OF COURSE Burnworth got approved for his cash in pocket, he has been pronouncing how great this is from day one at these meetings, I'm sure it had nothing to do with financial gain! I am not againt this, just seems to be every part of it is done for the benefit of those involved, making sure they get their slice of the pie! |
| Unified 911 dispatch would save $500K | |
| Patriot Sunday, May 26, 2013: 3:17 am | Again, I am not comfortable with a person leading the decisions and exclaiming how great this is when he himself stands to gain financially should all of this go through with his grand scheme. |
| County commissioners debate 911 dispatch center | |
| Patriot Friday, April 19, 2013: 3:33 am | I am not against the idea. I do however disagree with his input, as he has so much at stake. His concerns are not for the employees, but rather his own greed. |
| County commissioners debate 911 dispatch center | |
| Patriot Tuesday, April 16, 2013: 2:51 pm | Terry Burnworth's interests are in his pocket!! Of course he wants this to go through, what monetary amount does he stand to gain should his "grand plan" come together? Is he really thinking of the counties best interest or his own? |
| Letter to the editor spreads false information | |
| Patriot Sunday, February 10, 2013: 3:04 am | Thumper, I too have lived in the community for many years, yet these reports you speak of are public information I believe. When I checked there were no robots or machines that work for these departments you speak of, simply humans that sometimes might make a mistake. However I can tell you that there are many great caring people that work for these departments. You should stop in for a visit and I assure you it would be positive and welcomed. Now assuming you work for a living or retired, there might have been a time or two in your professional life that you may have made a mistake right? I wonder if your friends, neighbors or co-workers put it in the paper to try and garner some attention or humiliation upon you? This obviously wasn't the case as the Mayor stated in his letter, the rescue personnel were there immediately and did their jobs well, like they do day and night 365 days a year. I have had to call them a time or two my self and have been grateful for their professional and prompt service. Its so easy to criticize when you haven't walked in their shoes or don't have the facts. Wouldn't it be much easier to thank thank them for their service to our community when you see them. While they would not ask for it, I'm sure they would be humbled. Martinsville may not be paradise, but you and I call it home. I am proud to do so and glad to raise my family here! Best wishes to you and God Bless! |

| Patriot Wednesday, November 7, 2012: 2:39 am | I just want to add what a wonderful person Patty is. She does this day in and day out to help those in need as a volunteer, while dealing with her own issues. Her husband Bill, is very ill and has been hospitalized for some time. I wonder what many famalies would do with out her. Its truly amazing to see how much she cares about the well being of others. Keep Patty and her family in your prayers! |
| Brutal killer out of prison today | |
| Patriot Saturday, September 22, 2012: 5:19 pm | Danny, first you tried the lame phrase "My fellow Artesians, it's time to turn the page" (by the way, I was embarrassed for you at that one, it got you 60 votes)taken from the Bob Seger song, now the lyrics from a song by Rush, really! Not once did the writer "chastise" anyone or come across as a "religious zealot" as you stated, not sure you understand the meaning of either, I shouldn't expect any less from you. I read his comment as he was somewhat offended and simply asked that could it be worded differently, as not to offend. Where do you come up with this garbage, does your Fisher-Price See 'N Say have this stuff on it? Do you sit at home and pull the string until you get the correct response? |
| New Batman movie rises above Colorado tragedy | |
| Patriot Saturday, July 28, 2012: 3:57 am | Nicholls, you truly are a few clowns short of a circus. Live your life and quit dragging us into your conspiracy theories. This forum is a stage for your propaganda! Have you met Danny Stewart? May I suggest you two meet in Kentucky for a luncheon. |
| Identities of fatally shot Martinsville woman, alleged gunman released | |
| Patriot Tuesday, July 10, 2012: 3:54 pm | Wow, never ceases to amaze me! It doesn't say the gunman was released!!! It says their identities were released. I was not going to comment on this article as my first thoughts are with this young ladies family.Had the RT not done a story, the same would complain otherwise. |
| ‘I can’t afford this:’ Many call for scale-back of annexation | |
| Patriot Saturday, June 16, 2012: 4:30 pm | Danny, While your guess is way off base, I hold no political status. It doesn't take an educated person to decipher your bitterness towards the city and its administration. As a proud member of the community, I take offense to your comments! You have nothing good to say of anyone, always negative. Your posts are littered with complete distortion of the facts. Your slander of our city is detestable! I tend to think no matter the situation you are going to find fault. I may not agree on everything that happens in our city, but it is much easier to work together to accomplish the necessities for our community. |
| ‘I can’t afford this:’ Many call for scale-back of annexation | |
| Patriot Friday, June 15, 2012: 3:31 pm | I agree and respect your opinion Ron. I think its great that the RT offers such. However, its like the heckler in the back room that just continues to run his suck or in his case a turd in the punch bowl. He has no real knowledge of what he is saying, only that he is bitter. I encourage you to look at his previous posts and attacks on most everyone in this community. You know what they say about casting stones from a glass house. I have encouraged him to address his problems directly with the people he is dissatisfied with in person, however he chooses to ridicule those people and the community on here. We are fortunate to live in a Country that allows us our freedoms, where we can openly debate these issues such as the annexation. However it affects any of us, I believe the council will try and do whats best for all involved. Unfortunately not everyone will agree. Hopefully it will work out best for all involved. |
| ‘I can’t afford this:’ Many call for scale-back of annexation | |
| Patriot Thursday, June 14, 2012: 11:18 pm | So Ron your saying its ok for Danny to continue to attack the mayor, employees, members of the community and anyone else he disagrees with on here simply because he uses his name. Possibly you have not read his posts. My opinions are no different than yours I choose not to use my name, as do many and this site allows it, doesn't mean anyone is less of a person. The old saying applies here," if it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck, then it's probably a duck" My suggestion to him is leave the personal attacks out and he won't get the same in return. |
| ‘I can’t afford this:’ Many call for scale-back of annexation | |
| Patriot Thursday, June 14, 2012: 6:16 pm | Danny Stewart that was brutal! Reading your article was comparable to having a double root canal, painful and asking myself "why". Between your grammar and your misinformation I contemplated cancelling my subscription. However, I realized your a few clowns short of a circus and did lose miserably in your bid for election, twice! The fact is because you lost twice and no matter who is in office they are always wrong and you are always right. |
| Police chief: Operation Pull Over requires citation, no option for warnings | |
| Patriot Wednesday, June 6, 2012: 3:55 pm | im4iu I see a pattern with you, your dialect is very limited. Almost that of a grade school student. As I read your past comments, the word "joke" seems to appear frequently. I might also suggest if your ever stopped or encounter law enforcement in the city you might as well run, as I see your sure you will get away. Let me know how that works out for you! |
| Coach gets tickets on way to celebration | |
| Patriot Monday, June 4, 2012: 9:22 pm | Had he written him a warning and something had happened, the nay sayers would be on here complaining he didn't do his job. For those of you with any common sense that have seen the video, the officer was courteous and very professional! Especially with the fact he was being filmed and had Martinsville's version of "Dirty Harry" gone bad in his face questioning him and trying to ridicule him. I also know the gentleman driving the truck, I am 100 percent sure he meant no wrong, just simply a mistake he made and happened to get stopped. I am positive that Sgt. Richards holds no grudges either, just doing his job. Being a small town over the years we all have said it doesn't happen here, well it has! A major tornado, a devastating flood, a school shooting and child molesting teachers! Most smaller communities experience none of these. I don't want to see a tragic accident involving a youth team next on the news! The community and our leaders have always done an outstanding job of bringing it back together! |

| Time to change leadership | |
| Patriot Friday, April 20, 2012: 7:25 pm | Well,I'm still waiting! Mr. Culp has there been any response to thisat all from Furniss or any others from the MSD? If not please continue to run the article, if not this will be quietly swept away! Mr. Furniss, do the right thing and resign! This isn't a simple matter of one incident as you are well aware, come fourth and speak for yourself! Not some press release from your "staff"or the schoolboard! Call a meeting and invite the public, you are paid to educate and protect our children, to oversee they get the highest level of achievements as possible! It simply is not happening as described in this article, the trust of the parents and community is greatly depreciating. |
| Martinsville tennis coach identified as teacher placed on leave | |
| Patriot Sunday, April 15, 2012: 2:29 am | Turtle, You seem to wish to point the finger in other directions. The fact still remains, these are supposed to be "professional" adults whom are entrusted with the well being, care and education of our children! Obviously with this administration it is has failed! |
| Mother charged with stealing trust money | |
| Patriot Monday, April 2, 2012: 5:23 pm | Not sure all of this needed to be "aired" out in the Reporter. Really, did we need to know they were sued by the School District for non payment? Is this news or gossip for the nosey? Seems as all involved have been hurt by this, nothing like kicking someone when their down! |

| Law leaves gray area in student, teacher sexual relationships | |
| Patriot Wednesday, February 15, 2012: 11:21 pm | Mr. Wolf is a disgusting pedophile that has damaged many for his own sexual gratification! Fortunately he will answer to a higher power one day. He has chosen to cower behind his attorney and accept no wrong doing. A real man would come fourth and admit his shame and help mend the wounds he has created to all of the community! No chance of that as he is a spineless coward who preys on the innocent. His inner circle at the school knows darn well what was transpiring around them! However, they have chosen the easy way out and now are portraying themselves as the hero who brought in the saviour! I applaud Jerry Sichting for stepping forward and wish those young men all the best, it's just a shame the athletic director is using this as his smoke screen! People should lose their jobs over this. I challenge them to step forward and do what is right here! I would never accept that no one knew,I am sure the family was well aware, including two of his sons that coach there! I hope this young lady will come forward and tell the truth as hard as it may be. Having said this, I also agree that this will come to rest, and when the dust settles, all the hypocrits will still be in place, thats the good ole boy way. I will be curious how many attend the school board meeting if given the opportunity. What more does it take? Alcohol, sex, shootings, lawsuits and whatever else they have hidden. Saddening and sickening all in one. God Bless our community! |
| School officials had heard rumors | |
| Patriot Tuesday, February 14, 2012: 7:31 pm | 3211 - WHISTLEBLOWER PROTECTION Conversely, employees are subject to disciplinary action, up to and including termination, if they are aware of a violation of Federal, State, or local law that the Board has the authority to correct and they do not make a report confirmed in writing to their immediate supervisor. Well???????????? |
| Martinsville basketball coach arrested for public indecency | |
| Patriot Tuesday, February 14, 2012: 7:05 pm | I agree, demand an external investigation! Furniss asked for people to speak up! Really, to whom? Your internal clique is so tight it would do zero good for anyone to attempt to call or complain. This system is so broken and reaks of corruption. Anytime you ask for Furniss solely you get the wonder twins with Taylor being his spokesperson! However, obviously people have complained or brought fourth this information regarding this pervert as well as others. One can only hope the newer school board members will decide to do the whats right here, a few are lifers that are so buried up each others rectums they know what one another had for dinner! Remove the entire crew from the top to the bottom, our kids deserve better and our tax dollars should stop paying for the immorals who cheat, drink, and fraternize with our children in sexual ways! |
| Martinsville basketball coach arrested for public indecency | |
| Patriot Monday, February 13, 2012: 4:34 pm | this has been going around for a long time and obviously once again our school officials have failed our kids again and the city is back in the media. School shooting, a drunk superintendent, and now this. All to protetc their own BS! Take your blinders off and look around, enough is enough. Start from the top down to the athletic directors! They are the most immoral people and they are teaching our kids, from adultery to alcohol. Its ok for these coaches and athletic directors to do so, because the admins turn their heads. Now watch the good ole boy sympathizers jump to their side! School Board Members do the right thing, its what you were voted in for! Not the clique at the admins office! |
| IU Health Morgan Hospital CEO to leave | |
| Patriot Wednesday, October 12, 2011: 12:54 pm | Finally, this guy has taken advantage of this community and the enployees of the hospital long enough! Maybe IU Health can now begin to go in the right direction instead of filling Toms pockets. He has crapped on his employees for years while he reaps the rewards. Hopefully they are smart enough to get rid of those that had their lips attached to Toms backside! |
| Martinsville Junior Football League getting even more junior | |
| Patriot Friday, July 15, 2011: 9:08 pm | According to this guy, one would think all is well. It shouldn't be about who gets to "run the ball" Way to much emphasis on this and winning. Let these kids play, nuture, support and encourage them. Let them develop and learn the game. Amazing how politics have intruded into youth sports. Even parents who are interested solely in a healthy experience for their kids can find themselves navigating a system where the philosophy is shifting away from making sure all kids get to play and toward developing only the most talented youngsters. One concern that all youth sports experts share is research that shows 70 percent of kids drop out of sports by 13 -- and the primary reason is pressure exerted by adults. That age is about when kids begin to face the influences of drugs and alcohol. |
| Shireman conservancy district process begins | |
| Patriot Monday, June 27, 2011: 2:49 pm | So by the city owning property in Shireman (taxpayers) this should allow for residents in the city rights to the lake? Also by them taking over the damn means, this is no longer a city street and becomes "private property"? |
| Artesian tennis camp is ‘basic’ally an enjoyable event | |

| IU camp gives team a boost | |
| Patriot Friday, June 24, 2011: 5:12 pm | Really, another band wagon member. The right man wouldn't concentrate on personal gain, winning and prestige. The right man would focus these young men on values, character and responsibility. Teaching good ethical sportsmanship, being community oriented and working with all sports programs, he is asst. athletic director. Prepare these young people for their future, as there are very few in the last decades that go on to make sports a career. |
| New turf project on schedule | |
| Patriot Thursday, June 23, 2011: 4:35 pm | who is the true winner in all of this? they want us to believe it is the band and other programs, when in fact we are only appeasing one person! at the end of the day their program is going to take precedence over all others. Remember we paid a whole lot of money for this! Why is it we are building and spending more money on the soccer field for a concession stand and restrooms, are they not going to use the great turf field, the project of all projects? This money was taken from capitol projects, could we not have appropriated some of that money to go towards teacher salaries and education! |
| Coaches deserve the same scrutiny as teachers | |
| Patriot Saturday, June 11, 2011: 8:39 pm | Bullying, they cant practice what they preach. Those are some of the biggest hypocrits in the community! My son played for him in football so I have first hand knowledge. What a disservice to the community for putting so much of our tax dollars into a turf field!!! Holy crap do we really need that right now??? Who are we trying to please here, and now i hear they are messing with junior football! I think they better worry about their own program first! Nothing like an outsider moving in and suddenly knows it all and the local butt smoochers attach themselves to this one hit wonder! |

| Track parents concerned about field work | |
| Patriot Wednesday, May 11, 2011: 5:14 pm | My kids are done with sports but we still follow them. Sounds like we need to keep this "front page" and hold people accountable. Remember school board members are elected as well! I have been told a hundred times about the money where it came from, it would have been better served spread out amongst a lot of sports teams, rather than one! |
