Town refinances to avoid takeover

The Town Board allowed the purchase of things only because the Clerk gave them a balance sheet that showed the Town had the money to do so. At no point did the board have reason to check her figures. (which I am sure they will do from here on out). The Clerk gave them wrong figures so therefore the Board did not know that the Town did not have the money. You cannot blame everything on the Board or Goss. Think about it....how does the board know what kind of money the town has.....THE CLERK TELLS THEM!!! All you have to do is look at the audit reports from the the State Board of Accounts. That shows a lot. But remember when you are looking at them...they are a few years behind. Also, go to the Morgan County Clerk's Office...search the Town of Paragon on the public computer....look at how many tax liens the town had. Go to the Town Hall and look over the minutes....nothing was purchased without the Clerk saying they had the money to do so.

I had to think about this for a while then it became pretty clear. Us the good ole taxpayers will now be paying two people down there over a hundred thousand a year, a car to drive from home to the office, to lunch, back to the office and back home again. This is the sheriffs salary, retiring sheriffs salary plus coming back as chief deputy salary. I hope they are the hardest working men in the county for that kind of money we deserve it.
