| Resident wants chickens in city | |
| elelady Wednesday, April 17, 2013: 11:17 am | It will start with chickens then somebody else will want to add a pig then a sheep, get the picture. I don't think will should let these kind of animals inside the City limits. |
| MSD of Martinsville discusses arming teachers | |
| elelady Wednesday, January 30, 2013: 10:20 am | I don't believe that it has come to that yet. The children could see this as a unsafe place to be and not be able to fully relax and learn. Metal dectator's and better way of screening who comes in and out or picks up the children, yes, guns not yet. |
| Marijuana: Should Indiana legalize it? | |
| elelady Thursday, December 6, 2012: 11:11 am | Most people want to make it seem like cigerates are inlegal, but are thinking that making a mind altering drug legal, WHAT UPS!!! We have enough people drinking a driving so lets just let them do both, we better make sure are Life Insurance and car insurance's policies are paid up. |
| Trustee: Any annexation would hurt township | |
| elelady Saturday, August 4, 2012: 11:34 am | The days of township government are coming to an end. What do we need a City and busniness or a township to grow. We need to grow or the city is going to be a ghost town, soon. |
| Sonnega: Resolution good for community | |
| elelady Tuesday, July 12, 2011: 5:37 pm | The Pauper attorneys, court appointed for those that can not afford one, do not work for the prosecutor's office. They are attorneys that the county pays out of the Pauper attorney account, which all taxpayers contribute to this fund. It sounds like the young man took responsiblty for his actions and did not want to go through a long process. We should all pray for this young man, his family and the victim and his family. |
| County board hears smoke free advocates | |
| elelady Sunday, July 3, 2011: 12:07 pm | When did smoking become illegal??? Those that smoke paid taxes on cigarettes higher then those on alcohol. If you have a drinking problem it is a "disease" if you smoke you are a addict. I know that smoking is not healthy, but so is over eating. It really upsets me when an extremely overweight individual gets so upset over someone smoking, both are bad for you and should be treated equal. Also, if you own your own business, then it should be your own business what you allow to be done in it. |
| Wash. Township adds clerk to check bank statements | |
| elelady Friday, June 24, 2011: 11:09 am | Is this called doubling dipping??? With everyone needing jobs why are individuals getting two paid jobs with the City/County Government. There is several examples of this within both the County and the City Budgets. |
| Impasse may impact presidential attempt | |
| elelady Wednesday, March 23, 2011: 2:03 pm | Maybe another reason, the true reason, the democrats are not doing their job?? If I did not show up for my job for five weeks I would not have one and I feel they should not either. |
| Sunshine and shadow | |
| elelady Thursday, March 17, 2011: 2:13 pm | I AGREE!!! |
| County employees to get bonuses | |
| elelady Tuesday, March 8, 2011: 11:17 pm | They stated that they did not receive a raise for this year, I think they just did. |
| If it’s broken, throw it out | |
| elelady Monday, January 24, 2011: 12:22 pm | Most of the Township Assessor's were hired into the County Assessor's office??? I don't think so, you may want to check that out, I think you will be surprised this did not happen. |
| Brown trustee salary more than doubles next highest | |
| elelady Monday, January 24, 2011: 12:20 pm | That is more than some of the County Officals make, and they deal with the entire county. Wake up Brown Township taxpayers, you need to get on board with doing away with the trustees. |
| If not townships, what? | |
| elelady Wednesday, January 19, 2011: 11:04 am | They totaly eliminated the Township Assessors, or most of them, what is the problem with getting rid of the trustees. |
| Checks and imbalances: Township trustees' annual reports expose troubling numbers | |
| elelady Sunday, January 16, 2011: 4:47 pm | They need to be eliminated, taxpayers wake up and support your legistators and incourage them to vote out the trustees. They eliminated the township assessors a few years ago and they were doing their jobs. |
| Elimination of township government a major goal for session | |
| elelady Wednesday, January 12, 2011: 1:48 pm | This needed to be done several years ago, this system does not work for the taxpayers anymore. We need a county wide fire district and everyone being treated equal, including Mooresville and Martinsville, not just the outside townships. |
| Capt. to retire from sheriff’s department, teach at academy | |
| elelady Monday, January 10, 2011: 1:37 pm | The Sheriff's department is losing a GREAT MAN!! Good Luck and enjoy teaching the young men how to do the job right. |
| Fire cuts blamed for man’s death | |
| elelady Saturday, October 23, 2010: 9:40 am | I feel sorry for the family, but fail to see how you can blame this young man's death on anyone. The township residents should not have to pay for a service that also made runs in three other townships, these under township residents should have been paying for this service, too. No one could have said how long it would have taken for the ambulance from gregg township to get there, too, they could have been on another run. This young man had health problems, that no one could forsee causing his death. The ambulance and fire department situation is not something, I feel, one individual township can take care of now. It is the time for a county wide fire district to be put in place. |
| More than one person to blame for country’s predicament | |
| elelady Monday, August 9, 2010: 2:35 pm | AMEN |
| Salary increases proposed for city officials, employees | |
| elelady Tuesday, July 20, 2010: 11:59 am | I believe the mayor should be paid more then the city superintendent, but we can not afford to raise his salary 5000 in one year, let's take smaller steps and see what the economy does in the next couple of years. The city employees are not being under paid by any means, they are one of the top paid employees in the county, they could not go to Indy and start out a new job getting what they are paid now. It would not hurt anyone to have a pay freeze for at least one year, the State employees don't always get raises every year. Please remember the taxpayers of the city and how bad many have it in this ecomony now. If Mr. Trout is thinking of running for mayor, he is going about it all wrong, do not burden people with a large budget increase, they will not forget, believe me. |
| Frustration sets in during city budget process | |
| elelady Thursday, July 15, 2010: 12:11 am | nobodyimportant, I totally agree, I see a lot driving around in their trucks. |
| Gas card issues fuel township flap | |
| elelady Wednesday, July 14, 2010: 10:42 am | I am glad I don't live in Madison Township. |
| Frustration sets in during city budget process | |
| elelady Wednesday, July 14, 2010: 10:40 am | In this ecomony you have to cut back, the taxpayers can not take anymore. A lot of people have lost their jobs, and have taken lesser paying jobs when and if they can find them. It would not hurt the city employees to not get a salary increase for one year, at least. If you want the town to support the city and their efforts, show some concern for the taxpayers and not increase and definitly do not add any new departments, we need to take care of the ones will have. |
| Area briefs — July 1, 2010 | |
| elelady Thursday, July 1, 2010: 12:39 pm | Why is the city taking off on Monday, JULY 5th the 4th is on a Sunday. I will be interested in seeing what the State and County does. The city is always taking a day off, when others our working. |
| A plan to fix facades | |
| elelady Thursday, June 24, 2010: 3:23 pm | older buildings, ooops |
| A plan to fix facades | |
| elelady Thursday, June 24, 2010: 3:23 pm | I would love to see the downtown look better, but the fact is that all downtowns in small towns are dead. Nobody goes downtown, except to do what they have to, but not to look around or really doing any shopping there now. There are very nice resturants around the square, but this is because of the courthouse, which one day they will have to build a bigger and newer build, old build don't last forever. |
| City should stand by its men | |
| elelady Thursday, June 24, 2010: 3:17 pm | They will not be getting involved the case is closed, as it should be. They will get some punishment from the city, but did not deserve to lose their jobs over this event. I hope someone is looking into this child being place somewhere else not with this family, now. He needs more supervised housing, like a hospital. Also, he was not a small child, at 10 years old he was 94 pounds, that is not a small child as far a size goes, that with his rage would be very hard to control. |
| No charges against officers in Taser incident | |
| elelady Monday, June 21, 2010: 5:53 pm | I agree with Proud American, I am glad I wasn't the only person that felt that way. |
| Trustee, citizens tussle over Madison Township finances | |
| elelady Monday, June 21, 2010: 12:17 pm | Yes, It does, but it also makes me mad, that these people are getting a paycheck from the county for doing what?, making a mess a things. I think we will ending bailing some township's out no matter how its done. Where were the advisory boards when all this budget mess was happening? |
| Trustee, citizens tussle over Madison Township finances | |
| elelady Monday, June 21, 2010: 7:19 am | One township can not bail out another township. The same people will not be in charge it will be a entirely new board of directors for the entire county. In will be the County that will bail out madison township, if anyone does, so it will be every taxpayer in morgan county that will be have to help. There would be no Madison or Brown Township Trustees anymore if the State would do what they started to do this year and what they did to the Township Assessor's in 2008, so each township trying to outdo the other would be a thing of the past. |
| Trustee, citizens tussle over Madison Township finances | |
| elelady Sunday, June 20, 2010: 4:53 pm | they do, I can type either |
| Trustee, citizens tussle over Madison Township finances | |
| elelady Sunday, June 20, 2010: 4:53 pm | This is good reason why the township government should be eliminated. They don't assess property of any kind anymore, so the fire department and poor relief are basically all the do. A county wide fire district is what is needed, the days of every township having their own departments is over. They need stations located through out the entire county placed for a effective coverage. Everyone would share the cost equally, so this would not be going on in a couple of townships, Gregg township is another great example. The poor relief could be taken over by the welfare systems, or just get the money and distribute with welfare checks. |
| Barnard House might be museum option | |
| elelady Friday, June 11, 2010: 11:32 am | I don't think the house is in good enough shape for people to be going in and out of without lots of work. Also, where are you going to park, not in the Counties parking, they need all they go. |
| City considers Wooden collection options | |
| elelady Wednesday, June 9, 2010: 10:12 am | If it is books and pictures and such, the Morgan County Library would be the best place, then every one would feel like they could visit it anytime. I can't see going to a part of the Jail to visit this. Another possiblity is by the Gym that is named for him. We may need to try to fund a small building to store these items, to give them the proper care and attention. |
| Fast-track to I-69 is no good | |
| elelady Monday, May 24, 2010: 3:10 pm | Go with the flow or be left behine, I rather see Martinsville grow and thrive and the only way is to stay current with the needs of everyone. |
| School general fund move has hurt us all | |
| elelady Monday, May 17, 2010: 7:33 pm | In reguard to the pay the teachers receive, I am sure they deserve every cent they get, but they are not underpaid. If you notice many of the teachers in this county, live in the more expensive homes and upscale subdivisions. In this economy everyone needs to appreciate having a job, and maybe not receiving a raise for awhile. |
