Yes, Rod, that would be racist. Do we always have to denigrate other people to make ourselves look better? Why don't we just stick to the issue: the article published in the Reporter on January 1 was both sympathetic to the Klan and insulting to Martinsville. Why do you have to drag in demeaning remarks about people who had nothing to do with the article?

wow... I don't know all the parties in this, but it seems to me that one issue has yet to be addressed... If this article is correct on it facts.. Doesn't anyone find it alittle shady that kelly lost his position because his ex father-in-law was getting revenge and his ex-wifes new husband is now the one who can determine his job.. The question should be... was he put on suspension for job related reasons.. and is he being kept from his job because of work issues or personal issues. it seems to me that he reacted frm being backed in to a corner.

William, made an interception, and when he came down, was either hit or came down wrong on his knee (one he had surgery on) and tore the meniscus (sp) there is a chance they can fix it and he could be back by the end of the season... But I do not know the actual time frame.. that is just what was said Friday at game...

Hold on there... Voice of reason.... Don't point out one coach as being a bully on sports.. Not every coach,, but most of the coaches don't like or allow kids to play another sport while being in season. Some coaches weigh the factor that if they made them chose that they would loose the player so they have to weigh that factor
As for off season weight lifting. ALL coaches expect you to be bettering yourselve and getting stronger off season. They do not punish players for playing another sport,( you are staying in shape) As for Speed school that is held in the winter and some in the spring BEFORE school is open to all athletes (ask the wrestling and baseball coaches... some of their kids went.. even junior high kids went... (basketball coach wouldn't let players go, football player or not)
If your going to get on coach Kutruff for making Applegate choose.. go ask softball Coach if he allows kids to miss a practice for another sport.
As for choosing to let kids miss practice for college football activities... IT IS FOOTBALL that is the same sport... prestige...
as for best interest for the kids... Who knows what a coach is thinking when it has just lost 3 close games, just lost it's senior defensive 4 year starter, who i amy add was one of the key players on the team... Coach has alot of adjustments to make... So to call him on Sat,. morning and tell him that your going to play in a baseball show case (which by the way I am sure there are more of these that will be held, they do play baseball year round too) so, picking this season wasn't the only time. I don't blame him....It is sad that it had to happen, but don't single out one coach when most do the same..not all but most....

Spanky, yes that is what i was saying. He knew when he told the truth what the consequence was.. he made the choice. And as for the Sharing Athletes.. Our school is doing a great deal in the summer (which is off season for all sports) to not punish players from team to team.. But when it comes to in season and letting players go play in a game.. Your darn right they are worried about getting in juries...

If you really want to know. Beau's injury wasn't from being hit, But I wouldn't blaim it on the turf either.. This isn't the same type of turf that used to be used.. This is better than what is in Lucas Oil....
As for Applegate.. ask any player.. they'll tell you.. It was his choice ...

You are exactly right... and i think that is half of the frustration... They have now lost 2 senior starters due to knee injuriers. So, there are 2 big shoes to fill for the rest of the season.. Someone needs to step it up and fill in..

I agree.. Let's back the kids.. As parent's of player in any sport tho... if kids hear parents slamming a coach and, complaining about playing time, position, or even plactice issues, kids pick up on that and loose respect for the coaches. Just as the coaches loose respect from kids when nothing positive is pointed out. So, as I have read the other articles. I have not seen anymore slams on the kids. So, maybe the point has been made.
Now, as parents we need to work with our coaches and the kids on building up the program and not dwelling on what happened the 1st game...
and yes!!! LET'S GO ARTIES...

all right all you Artisian fans.. You think coach should give more players a chance to prove themselves??? well now is their chance.. When your kid/player gets home from practice.. tell him to step in to the shoes of the injured players from last game... make his mark... and help lead the Artisians to a win..
I spent sometime reading all the stupid blogs from the past few games. All the slamming of Coach K. on his 1 phrase. maybe he didn't say it too nicely, maybe he shouldn't have said it at all!! MAYBE MAYBE MAYBE!!!! I am tired of everyone whining!!!
All the coaches are frustrated.. asking themselves why couldn't we punch it in on the 1yd. line.. Yes we have a young O line.. but the best group is out there on the field... Don't you think the coaches would love to put different kids out there on Off. and Def. all just one way kids.. that is always the goal... they are not stupid.. But if you loose too talent by settling for one play just to make him a one way guy.. are you trying to win or just have 22 starters...
have you really watched all the games... there are actually just a few kids that play both ways and at that they are not always on the field.. Some rotate in only on certain plays, some are back ups in a position, some rotate amongs a group.
Also, football is a sport that they rarely make cuts. So, anyone that wants to show up and put in their time, is on the team. Some kids really want to play, dedicate their summer and off season to better themselves. Then there are the majority, they show up in the summer when they are supposed to, do enough to get though, then you have the others, come to summer workouts, are there, don't really want to jump into the drills, but just want tobe apart of the team.
Ok folks.. we all think our kid is an athlete... and we want whatever they want.. So, go ask your son.. Where he falls in the "I want to play" category. then ask him what he could do to improve enough to make it there. lifting, conditioning, extra time running routes, studying the play book more, watching more film, giving up pop, junk food, or even getting in on more of the drills..
Buy in.... be ready to go in.. pay attention on the sidelines, volunteer for a position, maybe one you don't even know...
That is my interpitation of we don't have enough athletes... they are not doing what they can...they are doing just enough... that doesn't make an athlete...Sometimes talent isn't enough...

I have just recently gotten back on to read some of the blogs... Wow, its been awhile since having a last name has been the excuse for playing time... I know both those so called players that are playing because of their lastnames and have follwed them through all their football careers... Don't you think that if a kid could out play them then they would get the starting position.. You ask any player on that varsity team if they are better than Beau Shields at what he does... Then ask them if they would come back after a knee surgery and take blind sided hits like Wills does when he runs his routes... play just because of their names... bologna..
