Some Martinsville parents unhappy with grading scale
iberry
Tuesday, April 23, 2013: 2:38 am
This is grade school for Pete's Sake. So many things come to mind. There was a curve when grading. That was in high school and protected us from teachers who gave us too difficult tests. In grade school there were "plus- checks and minus"-with a great deal of thought by the teacher as to what efforts to make to improve those grades. Times have changed but kids still need to know that they can improve. I am sorry but we didn't end up as failures and I am not sure we could have made A's in today's world.

Martinsville was lucky to have someone who knew Martinsville as only Bette did. She was a wealth of knowledge. I worked with her just a short time-3 years but we thought the same about Martinsville and loved its history. She was a delight to know and I truly respected her for the way she took hold of a subject and looked at all sides. Bette, I loved you and will miss having you in Martinsville. I always looked for your articles to know what was going on in my hometown. Rest in peace.

It seems the library has a lot of money for expansion and improvements. Are the tax revenues that great? Most libraries across the state are having to watch their budgets closely.

One small part of the county budget is the budget for commissioners. It has to be approved by the fiscal body (county council).

The state provides training without spending $1000 hiring an attorney. It sounds like no one knows what their job is. For pete sakes, if you are going to run for an office, find out something about it first. Then the state has telepone numbers to call for help. It would have cost our township $40 for each one of our board to go to Indy for training, but I said spend that $40 on someone who needs it since there are always people who need help in our township. I am on the township board in another county. Scotty must have gotten rid of everyone who could have helped him-maybe they needed to go but there are so many guidelines and rules that must be followed.Don't spend the taxpayers money on your education.
Vandals causing damage in city parks

The cost of security might be worth it if the repairs are great. Also police patrols at night checking the park would be a method of catching the vandals and arresting them.

The call center can be located in any location since you are using computers. Check out Cass County and Kosiuscko County. It works. You don't locate them in facilities not protected against fire, floods, tornado or electrical outages.

I always thought a mural on the side of the building beside the Veterans Park would be wonderul-I had hoped that Steve Carrell might be able to do what he did for the Reporter depicting the last 100 years. in Morgan County But he is gone too soon......and this will be something to make Martinsville proud.

Hospital sues doctor to stop move
iberry
Thursday, August 11, 2011: 4:05 pm
Too many good doctors have left Martinsville Hospital because they couldn't move patients thru fast enough for the administration.....these were usually the young ones who needed to establish a relationship.-Can't do that in 15 minutes. Sorry that a doctor so loved is being sued-that doesn't help the current hospital's administration's reputation. It would have been better to have let it happen and just kept quiet. Are they desperate?

Eminence schools talk consolidation
iberry
Friday, August 20, 2010: 12:23 pm
They should have consolidated years ago(1950's) when every other school district was doing it. The politices kept them and Monrovia out of the consolidation. That would have been the time to do it. Listen to Murray Pride-he is a very experienced administrator. As long as you keep an elementary, the town can survive-just as other small towns are doing these days.

Congratulations for having a teaching job in this very difficult year of public education. Please use your knowledge wisely and instill the very best in our young people-they are our future. So good to see a Wabash College graduate among the new teachers......bring the education that you were given there to your students.
