| Donnelly: Time to work together | |
| my2centsworth Saturday, October 13, 2012: 1:41 pm | I would like to know how Mike Pense feels toward the Veterans? I have heard he is wanting to cut the Veterans benefits 30% across the board. If this is true who would want to vote for him when it's our military that is keeping him and all of America free?? I have emailed him three times and still no reply. I hope someone can tell me the truth. |

| Morgan County candidates put in hot seat during public forum Saturday | |
| my2centsworth Sunday, March 11, 2012: 8:12 pm | I am not in favor of gravel roads. I lived on one for 17 years and I hated them. First of all, the do produce a lot of dust and if you live close to the road you might as well forget about dusting and cleaning your house and washing the automobile. Second, the road grader needs to come down the road and even the gravel out and how often are they going to do that? As I remember they hardly ever came down my road. Third, those rocks won't stay on the road long and then more gravel has to be put down. How much is that going to cost the taxpayers? Fourth, when it snows and the snow plows come down the road to clean the road how are they going to move the snow without taking all the gravel with it? I have been on black topped roads all over Indiana and some other states. I notice some roads aren't as bad as Morgan County. Is it the way the roads are done? Are they not done correctly? Maybe that is some of the problems- our roads aren't done right. |

| my2centsworth Sunday, March 11, 2012: 8:04 pm | Mr. Adams, on your answer part B you said this attracted more businesses to Morgan County. Where are the businesses. I don't know that I know of any that came here. Please enlighten me to those businesses. |
| Morgan County candidates put in hot seat during public forum Saturday | |
| my2centsworth Sunday, March 11, 2012: 7:59 pm | There has been no confirmation that John T. Young will attend. Justin Oakley is planning on attending but there has been no answer from Tony Bennett. I would suggest people attend this next forum and ask questions. That's how you find out who is the best candidate to elect. I went and I learned a lot from each candidate and it helped me make up my mind on who to vote for. |

| Legislation would require online classes | |
| my2centsworth Wednesday, February 8, 2012: 9:28 pm | My granddaughter did an online course this past Summer and I watched her doing some of the work. It is not easy. She had four stories to read then answer some questions about the story. I read these stories along with her. She had to pick the correct answer to the story. The second, third, and fourth stories had an answer in them that wasn't even in the story- it was in the first story only. She missed the answers in the second, third, and fourth stories but she shouldn't have because they had put the wrong answer to those three stories. She had to pay for these classes and they were not cheap. Am I for online courses-NO. If she missed an answer they didn't give her the right answer so when it came time for a test how was she to know the correct answer?? I have talked to a person who is involved with the school system and they told me they don't like doing things online. Stay away from the online courses!! |
| Caucus votes Perry onto Mooresville council | |
| my2centsworth Sunday, January 8, 2012: 9:17 am | What a great move to elect Mrs. Perry to the town council. We finally have one good person on there, let's hope we can get some more. Congratulations, Mrs. Perry. I know you will do a great job. |

| HB 1005 addresses nepotism on govt. boards | |
| my2centsworth Sunday, January 8, 2012: 9:12 am | I agree with nobodyimportant- lets hope the legislators pass the conflice of interest and nepotism bill. How many times have these people on a board given themselves a rais? The Mooresville Town Council gave the town employees a $750 bonus and look who sits on that board- Jeff Cook, a policeman, and George Watkins, who is the firemen and police chaplain. How many other people got a bonus this year? And they needed a raise because they didn't have enough money to pave streets and fix sidewalks. Dah!! |

| my2centsworth Thursday, December 29, 2011: 12:36 pm | To ConfusedAgain- you say no one would miss Mr. Scalf? Well, I know of several people who would miss him. Maybe it's you they wouldn't miss. Why don't you move?? Mr. Scalf is only looking out for the residents of Morgan County, which I am glad he does. Someone needs to as some of our political people don't. |

| my2centsworth Friday, October 21, 2011: 9:07 am | If you haven't been to the For Bare Feet factory you need to go. It's an interesting place. You can take a tour to see how the socks are made. I have taken the tour and really liked it. Their socks are wonderful. I wish the family well in their new place and hope they will stay in Martinsville. I hope they will open soon. |
| Tax increases under fire by opponents | |
| my2centsworth Thursday, October 13, 2011: 2:14 pm | to nobodyimportant- the group missed an opportunity to inform the general public. I have to disagree with you again. If the public would go to the town council meetings they would find out a few things that are going on. If they attended the Community Taxpayers meetings they would find out more information than what is given in the newspaper. So, the general public does have a chance to find out the truth it's just they don't want to take the time. I attend these meetings when I can and I find out a lot of information. I wish you would attend some of the meetings and you may have a change of heart as to what is going on. When it pertains to the general public they should attend meetings and find out what is going on- it's to their advantage. |
| Tax increases under fire by opponents | |
| my2centsworth Tuesday, October 11, 2011: 5:51 pm | I agree with Ratcatcher, if you don't know what you are talking about then don't make any comments. Before you say people are against something go to the meeting and find out just what is going on, then you will have the true facts. This is what I have been trying to do- go and listen and find out the facts. If you don't understand something ask someone who does. This is the way we learn the truth. |
| Tax increases under fire by opponents | |
| my2centsworth Monday, October 10, 2011: 4:20 pm | My first comment is to Mooresvillian- if the TRUTH is classified as propaganda then that is what the taxpayers group is giving out. I have read their flyers and I don't consider them giving out false information. Maybe you need to go to one of their meetings and find out the truth about the Community Taxpayers. My second comment is to nobodyimportant- from the information I have been given the town council said they needed to get the tax rate back up to the cap, which is $.05. There was never anything said about why they needed more money. Then at the hearing with the DLGF (what I have been told) they came up with a list of things that needed to be done. Some of these things needed to be done for years but they let them go now when things are tough for people they want to do these things. We don't need a new police car after two years, either. If you want to have your taxes raised that's fine by me but I for one can't afford it. I'll let you pay mine. How does that sound? I say unless you go to these meetings and find out the truth don't get on here and make comments you don't know anything about. |
| Just too wide a load | |
| my2centsworth Thursday, September 29, 2011: 11:16 am | I agree with Hugh Jorgan again. The Samuel Moore Parkway is a trap for those who go over 30 miles per hour. It ridiculous to go that slow. I could see it if there were children around but there aren't. Go to the town council meetings and voice your opinion. |
| Mayor wants WorkOne in county | |
| my2centsworth Thursday, September 29, 2011: 11:13 am | I agree with Hugh Jorgan. Closing the Mooresville License Branch was in retaliation for not taking the tax for the Lucas Oil Stadium. Why should I have to pay for something that I will never use? Let the owner of the Colts pay for it- he's getting the benefits from it. |
| Mooresville public hearing in Martinsville | |
| my2centsworth Sunday, September 25, 2011: 8:14 am | In response to Hugh Jorgan, whoever he is. I don't know who nannyg is but I agree with that person. If you would attend one of their meetings you would get informed as to what is going on and not criticize something you know nothing about. The CTA had to get a petition with at least 50 names of homeowners in order to file the petition. I heard they had over 100 names and it didn't take them long to get them. So maybe they aren't the only ones who are concerned about the tax increase. Maybe you have all kinds of money in the bank and don't mind tax increases but some of us have to watch spending our pennies. I worked off and on and put into social security but I didn't work long enough so I don't get that money. Does that upset me? Yes it does, especially since I know people are getting it that never paid into it. Don't blame those who are getting it (if they paid into it) because it is their money. Blame our wonderful government who has used that money for other things and is now giving it to people who have never paid into it. I have kids and grandkids who are paying into it but they won't get it when they retire. Are they crying about it? NO! They are trying to put money back into a retirement account so they will have something to live on. If this upsets you that you won't get social security when you retire remember that when you vote come next election. |
| Mooresville public hearing in Martinsville | |
| my2centsworth Friday, September 23, 2011: 2:02 am | To Hugh Jorgan- have you ever gone to one of the C.A.V.E. peoples meetings and found out what they are really about? If you haven't maybe you should and you just might find out a few things. They are here to help keep the residence informed with what is going on with our elected officials. Maybe you are an elected official and that is why you are down on them, because you don't like to be put out in the open and people see what you are doing. Until you have gone to a meeting and listened to what they are doing don't condemn them. I have attended a meeting and I see what they are doing and I am glad they are here keeping me informed. |
| Dillinger farmhouse could be moved | |
| my2centsworth Monday, September 19, 2011: 2:14 pm | In response to monroviabooks- what has Mr. Scalf done to you? Do you even know him? Have you talked to him? I know him and I have talked to him and he is a nice gentleman who cares about the kids. He is wanting to show them right from wrong and when you choose wrong what happens. He is not glorifying John Dillinger, he is trying to say crime doesn't pay. I suggest if you haven't talked to Mr. Scalf then do so and find out what he is really about. |
| Dillinger house could be moved from county | |
| my2centsworth Monday, September 19, 2011: 2:09 pm | LilaMae, truer words were never said. Mr. Hale and Mr. Quyle both need to go. Mr. Quyle is making a name for himself when he cut down Ms. Caldwell and now Mr. Scalf. I hope people will see what we have for a councilman and vote differant when the time comes. I know I will. |
| Dillinger farmhouse could be moved | |
| my2centsworth Saturday, September 17, 2011: 10:24 pm | What a shame. The town of Mooresville has a chance of having some History here but the people in charge won't hear of it. When are they going to wake up and see what we could have had here. The movie Public Enemy could have brought in millions of dollars but it was turned down. Isn't that par for the course? What do we have here in Mooresville to draw visitors? Let's see- we have Gray Brothers Cafeteria, it's the home of the Indiana State Flag and .......... That's all, folks. Welcome to the prosperous town of Mooresville. There is so much to see and do here. Mr. Scalf all I can say is I'm sorry we don't have the right leaders in office to open up some new things to bring tourism to this town and make some money. Good Luck in your museum, I'm sure it will do well. Whoever gets this museum will be lucky. |
| Petition filed against Mooresville tax increase | |
| my2centsworth Thursday, September 15, 2011: 1:26 pm | The Community Taxpayers don't need to change their name to C.A.V.E. people. Have you gone to any of their meetings? I have and I appreciate what they are doing to try to save us money. Are you living on a limited income? I am. A limited income means you only have so much money to spend for mortgage (if you have one), utilities (which keep raising), gas, groceries, doctor appointments and medicine, health insurance, and all the other necessary things. Those things keep going up but my retirement check and social security don't, in fact, I don't know how much longer I may be getting a social security check. My retirement check keeps going down because of health care costs. The taxpayers want things for the town but when the town has the money to do the things they need to do they don't need to be raising taxes. The town has over $16,000,000.00 in their funds to get work done so why do they need a tax increase? They have taken in over $3,000,000.00 just in the first 8 months of this year. They wanted $300,000.00 to do the streets and sidewalks. Why can't they take that amount out of the $3,000,000.00 they have made this year? Sounds like a good plan to me and they won't have to raise taxes, which a lot of people can't afford at this time. |
| Petition filed against Mooresville tax increase | |
| my2centsworth Thursday, September 15, 2011: 1:13 pm | In response to Just a Peasant- if you would attend one of the taxpayers meetings you might find out what they are really about. They are here to hold our local officials to certain standards. They are here to stop unnecessary spending, which means more money in your pocket, unless you have so much you want to spend it. Maybe you do, if so, pass it around I could use more as we are living on a limited budget. That limited budget means we have to watch our pennies and how we spend them. There are things we would like to do to our home but we can't right now because it's not in our budget. If we had $16,000,000.00 in our account we could do a lot but we don't have it. I have attended some meetings of the taxpayers and I see what they are doing and I appreciate it. Until you have attended one of their meetings don't condemn them for what they are doing. They meet the 4th Tuesday of the month at 7:00pm at St. Francis Hospital in the Swisher room. Hope you will attend one of their meetings and see what they stand for. Thank you. |
| Petition filed against Mooresville tax increase | |
| my2centsworth Wednesday, September 14, 2011: 5:11 am | From what I have been told the town has over $16,000,000.00 in the many differant funds. They have made over $3,000,000.00 in just the first eight months of this year. Why can't they take some of the money they already have and use it to repair the streets and sidewalks? I don't know what streets or sidewalks were on the list to be repaired but one sidewalk that wouldn't have to be repaired is the one at the intersection of East Carlisle and North Indiana Streets. I have noticed that it is all broken up and why is that? Because the crossing guards are parking their vehicles on the sidewalks and that is breaking them up. I thought their was an ordinace against parking on the sidewalks. People need to take into consideration that a lot of homeowners can't afford another tax increase. The water company is asking for another increase and they just got one a year ago. Retired people are living on fixed incomes and with the economy in the mess it is in they are being strapped with what funds they have. They aren't getting increases on their social security, in fact, who knows how much longer they may be getting any. They may or may not have a retirement to count on. Do you want them to go back to work and take jobs away from some who may have families to raise? I heard some of these places would rather have a retired person work for them because they are more dependable than the young ones. Would you want a retired person take your job away? What would you do then? Sure you could apply for unemployment but can you live on it? Yes, it would be nice to get the streets paved and the sidewalks repaired but use the money that is already there- that's what it's there for. |
| Morgan County tourism plan is embarrassing | |
| my2centsworth Thursday, September 1, 2011: 11:30 am | This is in response for Lassiter. You suggested some things but do you think the town council will let that happen here in Mooresville? It might bring in money for Mooresville but they don't want that- they just want to give tax abatements so the residents have to pay more in taxes. |
| Morgan County tourism plan is embarrassing | |
| my2centsworth Thursday, September 1, 2011: 11:25 am | I agree with Mr. Scalf. Mooresville had a chance to make a lot of money by letting this film be made here but the town council said "NO". Good job, guys. All they want to do is raise the taxes for the residents. I wonder if they realize that when they raise taxes they are raising theirs as well. Probably not. Gray Brothers Cafeteria draws more people than the Candy Kitchen. People could have visited the John Dillinger Museum then gone to Grays for lunch or supper. Double whammy for Mooresville in bringing in money. When will people see that we need new members on the town council? If you want Mooresville to prosper think about who you vote for in the future. We need to clean house. |
| In response to Quyle letter | |
| my2centsworth Thursday, August 25, 2011: 7:07 am | To Danny Stewart- no, you can't assure me that people like Quyle because I know several that don't. Yes, he probably will be re-elected next year because no one will run against him. If a Democrat ran against him I would vote for the Democrat. I don't think he would be as rude as Quyle and we don't need those type of people in office. We need someone who cares about others and will do what is best for them, not someone who does for what he wants. |
| In response to Quyle letter | |
| my2centsworth Wednesday, August 24, 2011: 3:44 pm | Ms. Johnson and Ms. Perry both had good rebuttals to Quyle's letter. This man doesn't have a clue as to how people really feel about him. Wouldn't it be nice if he volunteered to be the next astronaut to the moon (if and when we send another space ship) and it was a one-way ticket only! I would go for that. Mr. Quyle, as an elected official, you should keep your comments to yourself and do that job you are paid to do. And, we'd still like to see where all the money went for the Community Center. Did you say for architechial designs? Hmmm? |
| In response to Quyle letter | |
| my2centsworth Wednesday, August 17, 2011: 5:58 pm | Way to go Ms. Johnson. Let's get the truth out about our elected officials. It's time to get new blood in office and someone who we can depend on with the true facts |

| Stockwell, nearby roads in disrepair | |
| my2centsworth Monday, June 13, 2011: 9:34 pm | Landersdale Road just east of Bridge Street in Mooresville is a mess. My grandson was driving down the road and hit a pot hole and now his truck is making a funny noise. I asked one of the people on the county commission if they would pay to have it fixed, as he can't afford it, but was told no, they probably won't. I bet if it was one of their vehicles that got damaged they would get it fixed by the county. |
| Trashing Mooresville | |
| my2centsworth Wednesday, April 6, 2011: 8:45 pm | Drive down South Indiana Street and look at the area just south of Family Video with all the cars in the lot. Isn't that inviting to the town of Mooresville? The main part of town and a visitor, let alone the people who live here, have to see that mess. Supposedly it's an impound lot. I would like to see Mooresville beautified not trashed as you see there. Why would anyone want to live here when things are so trashy? Let's clean up the town and show visitors we are proud of our town. |
| BZA approves solar farm plans | |
| my2centsworth Wednesday, March 30, 2011: 7:39 am | My husband went to hearting and air conditioning school. He was told by his instructor Indiana does not have enough sunny days to be able to have solar energy. There are too many cloudy days and when you don't have the sun then you can't get solar. From what I have been hearing Morgan County will not get any money from this venture. We are stung again by not getting any money off of a business. And, from what I hear, the company is using grant money, which is taxpayers money. |
| Lugar wants details of U.S. role in Libya | |
| my2centsworth Thursday, March 24, 2011: 5:40 pm | Another lie from our president. There will be no U S air craft used but what is that flying in the air if it isn't the United States military air craft? Is he blind? Hope stupid does he think we are? Let some of the other countries fight some of these "wars". We need to keep our peace with Israel and not fight against them because if we do we will be doomed. Things are not looking good in the Arab countries and people had better get their lives in order because of what the Bible says. Read Revelations if you don't know what is going to happen. This isn't Mother Nature doing this destruction- it's GOD. |
