| Commissioners pass county ATV ordinance on first reading | |
| scooter Wednesday, November 21, 2012: 12:16 pm | Under the ordinance, an all terrain vehicle is defined as a vehicle that is less than 50 inches in width, has a dry weight of 1,200 pounds or less, is designed to travel on at least three non-highway or off-highway tires, is designed for recreational use by one or more people, has a seat or saddle designed to be straddled by the operator and has handle bars for steering control. The ordinance sets standards for ATV operation. ATVs must be properly registered with the Indiana Department of Natural Resources, have seat belts for all riders, have turn signals and reflectors, and mufflers to limit noise. Anyone operating an ATV must have insurance. Gators and Mules do not have "a seat or saddle designed to be straddled by the operator" but they have seat belts. Four wheelers do not have seat belts but have "a seat or saddle designed to be straddled by the operator". I am not sure what type of vehicle they are going to allow on the roads. |

| scooter Monday, April 16, 2012: 2:31 pm | Band Mom Forever-you are right, but why would a kid want to join something that for the most part sucks? I mean, I stopped playing in band to play sports, and let me tell you, it didn't get me anywhere! If I would have known then what I know now about the kind of experience that I was going to have in the sporting program at Martinsville High School, I would have been in band in a heartbeat. That was back when band was fun though. For a kid that age, what is the point of putting in the hard work when there really isn't anyone but the parents to care about it? I mean, when I was in school, Band Day was a huge thing and now they don't even go. Heck, Band Day was huge when my mom was in school! It is depressing to see what has happened to the band. I do agree though that the problem starts in middle school, but it didn't seem until recently that it was a problem. Everyone wanted to play for Battaglia! |

| scooter Monday, April 16, 2012: 1:17 pm | We miss Mr. Battaglia!!! I remember watching the band when he was director and absolutley having goosebumps from the sound that our band could achieve! My brother was in HS Marching Band as an 8th grader until his Senior year and I attended many competitions. I am so sad to drive past the high school in the summer now and see the marching band practice. They are smaller than my middle school band class with Mr. Vogel was. I remember being in the student section of football games and the band playing at half-time! It was amazing! I think maybe Martinsville needs to focus on their music programs; it looks like their sports programs are in the dumps! |
| MSD school board accepts Wolf's resignation | |
| scooter Friday, February 17, 2012: 9:14 am | Viper55- If doing the right thing costs a little more, then I will pitch in my share! If that is the case, I would like to know how the parents of the MSD of Martinsville would feel knowing that last month the School Board took all of the school bus routes away from the local contractors and gave them to a man that lives in Washington Indiana. This man does not live in our county, let alone the school district and pays no taxes here. He puts old buses on the road and in 4 years when they give him all of the routes we could be in for a world of hurt. Parents around here need to pay attention to Franklin Township. If the courts allow for bus fees, you can bet your butt that we will be doing that in a few years. People that have been driving for this district for 30+ years and great reputation were thrown out on their butts for a few bucks. I know that what is going on with Wolf right now is awful. I had suspected this when I was in school in the 90's. It was pretty well known and it is funny how the whole thing has been swept under the rug for such a long time! I cannot believe that the board would accept this piece of trash's resignation. It seems that they are all about doing the wrong thing for the people of this community. They have no problem screwing everyone around here. |

| scooter Monday, February 13, 2012: 7:01 pm | The school board won't be open for anyone to attend. You know that they will just call an Executive session and it will be closed. They did this last month over another issue that was swept by the same good "ole boys. Not to the same caliber, but there were people who cared. Anyway, I hope that all of the people that knew this was going on (a certain Assistant Superintendent and Athletic Director) will be put under a microscope too. I was a student and an athlete in the 90's and believe me this was common knowledge. For those of you that think that it was so easy to "tell", my question is who in the world would one tell? Anyone in a position to tell was in on it and maybe even doing it themselves. He is not the only teacher that was involved with a student, the only difference is that the other teacher was allowed to leave and keep his teaching license and went somewhere else. Guess what...he was also a coach! Imagine that! |
| Hostage team called to site of shooting | |
| scooter Wednesday, November 16, 2011: 12:10 pm | Not arguing the situation, but what does it really matter where the police officers are from? I didn't know that what agency is involved determines what precautions are taken. I see all points of view on this though. |

| scooter Wednesday, November 16, 2011: 11:34 am | Sorry to disappoint you Mr. Schoolcraft but the -4 has nothing to do with me. All that I was saying is that it is better to be safe than sorry. Response times from any of our law enforcement or emergency personnell are not going to be very good. All attention is on one location. I am sorry that you think that all of this is silly. So, let's say that a high school student needs to leave and go to an appointment and gets in a wreck on the way, but due to this emergency going on there is no one to respond and help in a timely manner. I would rather my children stay in school untill the county is fully staffed by law enforcement. The lockdown isn't because of what is going on or where it is, it is about keeping the rest of the county safe if other situations occur. |
| Hostage team called to site of shooting | |
| scooter Wednesday, November 16, 2011: 11:03 am | Putting the schools on lockdown does seem like a silly thing....untill you think about it. Level 1 lockdown means that everyone has to stay in the school building and the rest of the school day is not disrupted. Now, if most (if not all) law enforcement is in one part of the county and everyone in the state knows that, don't you think it is a good idea to make sure our children are safe? I work in Plainfield at one of the 3 prisons and if there is an emergency situation in Michigan City, we are on lock down also. There are crazy people out there! |
| Unequal playing time is unfair | |
| scooter Wednesday, October 5, 2011: 11:09 am | I totally agree! I was one of those kids who put 110% in, had great grades, respected my coaches and went above and beyond (even when I shouldn't) and was put on the bench from a position that I actually was dominating at the time and was told that it was because it was what was best for the team. I respected that answer, until I overheard a conversation between the coach and the other student's parent (who by the way was "helping the coach" and giving them a huge discount on services from their business) thank the coach for moving their child to the position (that I had held) because they liked them better there THEY THOUGHT it suited them better. Now, they had been playing a different position and doing very well, when moved they were making errors and were kept in the game. We also had a fund raiser and whomever raised the most money would receive a new piece of equpiment. I REALLY needed this piece of equpiment, so I worked my butt off and won the fundraiser! I was told the next day, after the deadline, that someone else beat me by $5 because they were allowed to turn in their fundraiser a day late and totals had already been announced! I was devastated! I finally quit and all the hard work that I had put in since 2nd grade was for nothing! All I have to show for it now is the need for a double knee replacement! Oh well. The only thing this taught me was the Martinsville is very crooked and political when it come to sports and I hope and pray that my 2 year old doesn't want anything to do with sports! I do wish that the little leagues (for all sports) required that ALL kids on the team participate. That is what little league is all about. The children that are spending all their time and money on training and coaching shouldn't be playing little league, they should be on travel teams and such that actully have scouts and such attending. It really is pretty sad how adults think it is ok to make children feel so bad about themselves. I have a step son that had autism (very high functioning)and really wanted to be a cub scout and for 2 years my husband talked to the scout leader and emailed him and his wife and they never contacted my husband to let him know when the meetings were. I was really sad to think that they wouldn't contact my husband for 2 years straight because my step son was different! He really needed that so that he would have some self esteem and be able to "earn" things for his hard work and apparently he isn't good enough for the Cub Scouts! Whatever! He is going to do 4-H and forget it! Good Luck to all in this crazy town! |

| scooter Thursday, June 23, 2011: 8:44 am | May God bless this family for the sacrifices that it has made. Thoughts and prayers from my family. This soldier died defending our freedoms and made the ultimate sacrifice. May his children grow-up to know what a brave and honorable man their father was. This country owes our gratitude to this family and the many others that have paid the ultimate price for our freedom! Rest easy soldier. Semper Fi |

| scooter Friday, June 10, 2011: 6:46 pm | Dan was a wonderful person. He was so much fun to work with and could always put a smile on my face. He is sadly missed but will never be forgotten. I am proud to say that I knew and worked with Dan! |

| scooter Friday, December 17, 2010: 8:09 am | Can they just "demote" Hester for no real reason? I am so glad that I moved out of that town! Hester is a good man and this decision made by a bunch of cowards is crazy! I hope the new board is really strict with Carlyle. He won't be able to play by the rules and hopefully they can get rid of him for good! He is so corrupt...he should be in the jail! I can't believe the town would want someone in that position that did the things he did to get let go from IPD! Makes me sick! |

| scooter Friday, November 5, 2010: 3:54 pm | Eye In The Sky-I am sorry that you feel I am a freeloader. I work a 40 hour week on dayshift and my husband works 12 shifts on nightshifts. We don't spend much time as a family due to the fact that we are not freeloading and making YOU pay for us or our kids. My point was merely that the Mooresville Park was definitely not expecting that kind of crowd and next year I will go to family and friend's. Truthfully, I hate Halloween and think that begging for candy is stupid, but you know what...the kids love it and I will continue to take them for that reason alone. They were thankful for what they did receive but I could see the disappointment in their face every single time they were told "Sorry, we're out". Furthermore, your post didn't have any value. You telling me to go back to Martinsville had nothing what-so-ever to do with my post or the Trick-or-Treating OR teaching my kids anything. I am sorry that you seemed to be upset with me letting Mooresville Park know that it didn't go as well this year. Feedback...it is what makes things run smoother and that is all that I was trying to give them. Now, the year after next, when they have a year to recover from this VERY busy one will be when we try it again. |
| Halloween Hike thanks | |
| scooter Friday, November 5, 2010: 10:09 am | Eye in the Sky-I don't live in Martinsville thank you very much. I choose not to go to Martinsville unless I absolutely HAVE to. I am not real sure why you felt you had to comment on my post. Your thoughts had absolutely no value. |
| Halloween Hike thanks | |
| scooter Thursday, November 4, 2010: 3:10 pm | I also thank the Mooresville Park & Rec Board for providing a safe place to go. I however will not be returning next year. Last year was awesome and definitely worth the time; the kids had a blast! This year was a totally different story! It took 2 hours to get around the mile (which wouldn't have been a big deal) but 1/3 to 1/2 of the stations didn't have anything for the kids. It was very disappointing! We spent so much time at the park getting nothing that we didn't have time to go anywhere else! We had to go to CVS to get some actual candy for the kids because they literally only had like 10 little pieces of gum or candy. I love the stations and so do the kids, but I think the Park was definitely not ready for that crowd! |
