| Elliott elected county clerk | |
| sillyoldman Friday, November 30, 2012: 2:02 pm | Ms. Allen, Possibly you don’t realize that Morgan County does have 2 US House of Representative Districts now. Part of the county is in the 4th District represented by Todd Rokita and part of the county is in the 9th District represented by Todd Young. Depending on where you live you voted for one or the other Districts, NOT BOTH. If you use this link below you can see the current congressional districts and the new districts that take effect January 2012. We just voted for the elected officials that will take office January 2012. http://www.govtrack.us/congress/members/IN/ You may not also realize that Morgan County now has 3 State Representative Districts also. District 47 represented by John Price, District 60 represented by Peggy Mayfield and District 44 represented by Jim Baird. Again depending on where you lived you ONLY voted for one of these not all 3 Districts. The document that you reference on the Election Board Facebook page is a SUMMARY of all the offices voted for within Morgan County. As far as the anti-nepotism bill, maybe you should go back and read it again. Stephanie Elliott is County “elected official”. Her husband John works for the City of Martinsville those are 2 different Governmental Entities and Stephanie does not supervise John in his job. As far as Kivett, I am told that her husband Rick does not report to her directly so it does not violate the anti-nepotism law. |
| Caucus to pick new county clerk on Nov. 29 | |
| sillyoldman Wednesday, November 21, 2012: 2:13 pm | I won't pick on career office holders solely because they have been in office a long time. There are several that are friendly, competent, and innovative, and I would vote for them for another term. However, Kivett is none of the above. |
| Commissioners pass county ATV ordinance on first reading | |
| sillyoldman Wednesday, November 21, 2012: 11:52 am | The ATV's that have seat belts are the John Deere Gator, Mules, etc.. these are the only ones that I have seen that have seat belts and I think they are optional. |
| Beware ‘conservative’ Dem. | |
| sillyoldman Friday, October 19, 2012: 9:00 pm | Mr. Tibbs also references Advance America's non-partisan voting guide. The 2012 version was just released. Mayfield was chosen in 9 of 10 categories. Welch received zero. |
| Welch displays convictions | |
| sillyoldman Friday, October 19, 2012: 7:56 pm | Welch walked out for 5 weeks in the 2011 session to stand up for your rights? Yet in the Democrat walkout of 2012, when faced with representing a new district, she stayed because she'd had a change of mind? When asked at the Morgan County fair if she was Republican or Democrat, she answered, "I can be either." Recently, she answered that she is neither Democrat nor Republican. Seems like she is having a difficult time making up her mind, depending on which audience she is speaking to. |
| Beware ‘conservative’ Dem. | |
| sillyoldman Tuesday, October 9, 2012: 9:21 pm | If Democrat Welch is pro-gun, why did her NRA rating drop from A- to C+? Peggy Mayfield (R) Grade: AQ Endorsed by NRA in this race. Peggy Welch (D) Grade: C+ |
| Candidates make pitch to Tea Party Tuesday | |
| sillyoldman Monday, March 12, 2012: 10:53 pm | Ms. Mayfield's staff has done a great job. She is gone a great deal of the time attending meetings with all the statewide associations she is involved with. Leading up to the last race for Secretary of State she was absent for duty the majority of a year. She is on her quest to be a career politician. Funny, I don't recall her ever running for the position eventually won by the now-disgraced Charlie White (who was also endorsed by our Republican County Chairman). Maybe she should have. |

| Rod Bray considering bid for state Senate | |
| sillyoldman Friday, January 20, 2012: 9:18 am | Ryan Goodwin a social and fiscal conservative? I guess everyone has already forgotten that he supported the Mooresville School project that would have cost taxpayers in the Mooresville School District $200 million. And that he supported a liberal Democrat as a candidate for Mooresville School Board. It doesn't matter that School Boards run as non-partisan. Their core beliefs make them partisan. |

| sillyoldman Friday, January 6, 2012: 5:51 pm | So Voyles, Adams, and Goss could unanimously vote that only ONE of them will continue to exist--just like that. Would any voters out there trust any of these individuals to be the sole decision makers for the county? |
| Judge to force Bethany vote | |
| sillyoldman Friday, December 23, 2011: 11:41 am | Duane Stanley and Walter Worley should be removed from office for failing to perform their official duties. They have been given several opportunities and sufficient notice. They are simply holding the town of Bethany hostage. Again. |
| Convicted molester arrested on new charges | |
| sillyoldman Wednesday, December 7, 2011: 11:36 am | According to the probable cause affidavit filed by Morgan County Sheriff’s Department Detective Sgt. Dan Downing, Standeford, 31, Martinsville, was charged after a preteen boy alleged Standeford made him perform sex acts. During one of the alleged acts, Standeford became sick and vomited. The boy told his mother Standeford was vomiting. When the motherasked why he was sick, the boy told her why. This story is enough to make me want to vomit also. |
| Commissioners pass new election map | |
| sillyoldman Tuesday, December 6, 2011: 8:00 pm | Commissioner Norman Voyles said he didn’t like Mayfield’s suggested map because people in Heartland Crossing and Morgantown would be represented by the same county council member, and people in Brown Township and Baker Township would be represented by the same councilman. “I don’t call that compact,” he said. BUT THAT'S EXACTLY WHAT THE COMMISSIONERS DREW INTO THEIR MAP! So Norman, are you stating that your maps are not compact either? |
| Re-districting map in violation of state law | |
| sillyoldman Sunday, December 4, 2011: 5:10 pm | Have you thought why the same two councilmen were put in the same district on three of the "options"... you think that was just chance? That doesn't seem very probable... that's not gerrymandering but more like gerry-manipulating....sort of smells... not like a rat...but maybe rat bait. Am I to read that you are accusing Clerk Mayfield of intentionally manipulating the suggested maps to purposely oust either Prather or Collier? |
| County to stay self-insured | |
| sillyoldman Wednesday, November 9, 2011: 1:41 pm | The council has REPEATEDLY stated that pay rates are for the POSITION, and not the qualifications of the person holding it. What made them stray from that philosophy? |

| sillyoldman Friday, October 14, 2011: 1:04 pm | And to think that in eight years he can block access to his arrest and criminal conviction. In fact, he can ask that the arrests for the dismissed charges be blocked in a little as 30 days. |
| Showing our colors | |
| sillyoldman Tuesday, October 11, 2011: 7:09 pm | Searched several times for a schedule of events in the RT online. If there was one, it should have been easier to find, expecially for a 4-day event like this. Maybe take into consideration next year? I would have liked to attend some of the special events. |
| Deputy argues against firing | |
| sillyoldman Thursday, September 1, 2011: 4:49 pm | Jacob was a cheater, Peter had a temper, David had an affair and conspired to have the husband killed, Noah got drunk, Jonah ran from God, Paul was a murderer, Gideon was insecure, Miriam was a gossiper, Martha was a worrier, Thomas was a doubter, Sarah was impatient, Elijah was moody, Moses stuttered, Zaccheus was short, Abraham was old, and Lazarus was dead…but they were good enough to be called by God. Even Jesus showed a violent temper in the temple. I guess the rest of us just have to be perfect, especially if you're a public servant. |

| Township cuts clerk pay, benefits | |
| sillyoldman Friday, July 1, 2011: 5:28 pm | For comparison, some county elected officials earn less than $ 23.35/hour (if salary is divided by scheduled work hours). Most county employees earn less than $15/hr and work about 35 hrs/wk. I don't know the woman or the workload, but that does seem a bit high for part-time work. The family situation just adds fodder for the rumor-mongers. |
| No health dept. shots for insured kids | |
| sillyoldman Monday, June 13, 2011: 5:38 pm | George, however, doesn’t think it will affect many patients in Morgan County who come to the health department for immunizations now. “Most of our patients are uninsured or underinsured anyway,” she said. I wonder if she knows that Dr. Broderick's kids all have received shots at the health dept. And he's far from uninsured, underinsured, or anywhere in the same galaxy as "less fortunate". Another problem with the family doctor is the extra charge for an office visit. It wouldn't be as expensive if they simply charged for the immunization, or even a nominal record fee. But $65 for height, weight, nice-to-see-you-Doc, and then an assitant does the stick.....? |

| sillyoldman Thursday, May 12, 2011: 11:35 am | They deal with youth. Any organization (including churches, Scouts, youth groups, etc.) that has direct contact with youth is required (or should be) to sign the forms consenting to background checks. The organization could otherwise be held liable if inappropriate behavior occurred and it is shown that they failed due diligence. |

| New threat reported at West Middle School | |
| sillyoldman Monday, April 4, 2011: 4:58 pm | Well, the bathrooms are the only place that the cameras don't reach. The bathrooms in the high school are locked during lunch periods. Yes, you read that correctly; students cannot use the bathroom around the cafeteria during the lunch breaks. So I guess now they should keep them all locked at all times, and only allow students that are escorted by a school staff member who inspects the stall before and after it's used. *SARCASM* |

| Turf project to get hearing | |
| sillyoldman Thursday, January 27, 2011: 12:27 pm | Even if use of the capital projects fund is limited in scope, the School Board is telling me that they cannot find another capital project more worthy than turf???? So our kids won't have to play in the mud. How will that prepare them to deal with away fields that are real grass/dirt? Sad to think there are college degrees sitting on this boards/school administration. Stupidity is free. I shouldn't be required to pay for it as a taxpayer. |

| sillyoldman Friday, January 21, 2011: 7:52 pm | The sale of bonds will not exceed $1.9M. Maybe because if it hits $2M they require a referendum that will defeat the project????? |
| Senator wants school out all summer long | |
| sillyoldman Friday, January 14, 2011: 12:38 pm | "Nancy Papas, representing the Indiana State Teachers Association, said having a schedule like the one Delph proposes would leave schools with fewer breaks over the course of the year. “Students and staff alike do burn out if they go for a long time with no break,” Papas said." So do they want year round school where students supposedly will retain more with more frequent but shorter breaks? Or do they want more breaks , not for the students, but for their teachers? You can't have it both ways. |
