Warehousing mentally ill in jail is bad policy
sportsfan
Thursday, February 14, 2013: 2:49 pm
We have a crisis in the US but here in Indiana it's horrible; the lack of care we have for the mentally ill. It strains the families of the mentally ill, especially violent patients. There is nowhere for them to go. The mentally ill are not criminals; they cannot help they're sick. The mentally ill are just that, "ill", and they need help. The forms and process for assistance and medicaid are so complex, most of them can't fill them out. And then, when they are successful in filling them out w/the help of their family (if they're lucky and have one), in our circumstance, we find that medicaid or some other branch of "help" requests more information and cancel their services until they receive it. We do not have a 2 billion dollar budget if our mentally ill, brain-damaged, or handicapped citizens cannot get help they need! Great article.

@John Q Pulic:
Wow! I'm in AWE of your wisdom! By no means do I think we (U.S.) are without fault. I would be the first to say it. Of course you can look back at history and be the perfect General: AFTER THE FACT. We can't see the future, Buddy.
We have our own interest to protect, REAL TIME, so you make mistakes. My point was, as a country in the world, our hearts are for good.
Wow, Ronald Reagan? You should work for the Obama administration; blame everyone else, Because the deadliest attacks you refer to (9/11) have nothing to do with Islamic Extremists who want every American dead because we believe in our own God and not Allah, right? No, you're right, it's gotta be Reagan's fault?! HA. That's laughable.
As far as Libya, the U.S. Embassy had been attacked several times before Muammar Gaddafai was ever removed; that's the point. Amabassador Chris Stevens had asked for help numerous times, months earlier, for more security. Sadly, as we know, it never happened. The decision to send troops in for help would never been a decision to be made if the security, that was rqstd, would have been there in the 1st place. Instead, the administration makes up lies about a VIDEO that caused these attacks; what a joke, just like the last 4 yrs: BLAME BLAME BLAME.
It's a waste of time to even respond to your marks on the economy. Unemployment is higher now than when he took office, yes even TRILLIONS later. At this point, if you think the President has done a fine job, you just don't want to face the true facts.
As far as our might, it's proven that the show of force keeps our enemies on their toes; it's not for popularity. I do agree w/you, we should take care of our own first, and we should never occupy another country.
And, BTW, I have traveled the world too, IN UNIFORM, to about 14 countries. I saw nothing but LOVE for us; the US troops and THAT WAS real time.

@John Q Public: 1st of all, America is a Bully? How can you say that? I'll sit here and wait on your response on letting me know what other country has liberated more people in the world than the U.S? And you call US bullies? Perhaps if you lived in one of these countries, you would have a different outlook. But perhaps you are one, like so many, who would like to hide your head and not see what is really going on in our world.
And maybe you don't know, but Benghazi is a U.S. Embassy. Just because the attack wasn't "here" physically, doesn't mean it wasn't an attack on us. Where was the President when Ambassador Stevens begged for add'l support prior to this attack and his death? I'll tell you, the same place he was when they were under siege: MIA!
If you're still voting for Obama after the last 4 years, you're not voting on the issues. You can't vote for him based on his results, there are none.
And, just so you know, it's not ME disagreeing w/the idealogical thoughts of the President related to our military movements, it's the Commanding Generals of our military that disagree. I think they may have a little better understanding than the "community organizer" on where our strengths need to be!

Everyone can talk about what's important and what's not important. My husband and our entire family are Marines or some other branch of the military. They protect us and give us the liberty to discuss these things freely and to bash one side and the other.
What I do know is that NOTHING matters in life w/out our liberty. Our liberty is protected by the most powerful military in the world; our good men and women. Without our military, we would have nothing and nothing would matter. At this point, the US looks weak and vulnerable to our enemies and that's because of the policies and talk of our current leader.. we cannot play patty cake w/the middle east, we cannot apologize for someone ELSE attacking US; that is not what the USA is about and never has been. The world needs to KNOW, that when the US is attacked, in any way, we will not sit idle, we will protect our own and do it with avengence.

God help us if this man is re-elected. I know my house is ready for anything, as it is protected by my Marine and always will be. God Bless our Military and watch over them; their commander-in-chief sure isn't.

I AM SO SICK of people not doing their research and talking before they have ANY clue what they're saying. Obama (I can hardly say his name w/out disgust) is RUIINING us. Let's put aside ALL of his messes (and there are a million) and focus on Libya; that's all that should be said. He and his cronies should be jailed for their actions that allowed our men to be slaughtered. He was FULLY aware of what was going on, went to bed, and on to Vegas the next day. Turn on the REAL news channel and get with what is happening. Electing this idiot again is like setting your own house on fire....NO BRAINER! Wake up Obama Fans and pick the peanut butter out of your ears!!!

AND, if they has reason to "investigate"-since they did; being that this is the safety of our kids we're talking about...what about a hidden camera in Wolf's office? I'm hearing that is where a lot of this happened w/this girl on the weekends, etc. That not allowed either? c'mon....this is 2012...surely there was a way to catch him other than the police walking right in on him?!?

SPANKY FOR SCHOOL BOARD!!!! You are RIGHT ON.
Now, my question is, when he was investigated last summer (like they said he was on rtv6.com), was he placed on leave during that investigation? No, he wasn't. Who led the police officials around the school while they were investigating? I'd say our lovely Athletic Director, Don Lipps...I'm sure that was productive. Did anyone ask Wolf to take a polygraph? Even if it wouldn't hold up in court, I'd like to have heard whether or not he would have agreed to do so. This was no secret; I'm still not sure what "PROOF" of a sexual relationship is needed....a homemade video????? OMG?! What a joke this all is. I was told the girl's parents didn't agree to press charges last summer becuz they didn't want their daughter to testify and be embarrassed...all of this is sad, frustrating, infuriating, and sadly.....expected.

Annette's compassion for all whom she comes in contact with is unmatched. Morgan County citizens who have had the misfortune to have had to deal with the death of a family member, and who were fortunate enough to have Mrs. Rohlman care for their situation, will tell you that her attention to hearfelt details have made her a life-long friend. You have many votes already Annette Rohlman...thank you for all you do and have done for the families of this county.

Unequal playing time is unfair

IDK, this is not 100% true. We are not from here, nor did we go to school here, our kids have had to forge a name for themselves and have done it on their own w/no money backing from mom or dad. Having said this, I am NOT advocating any bullying or mocking of any sort and would agree that if the coaches have no intent on playing a kid, then they should be honest about that upfront when teams are made and then the athlete and/or their family can decide if they would like to continue with the team.

I don't mean to sound like the mean kid, but seriously we don't pay coaches w/our tax money to have a losing record. Let's take in to account that some of these kids spend countless hours and money (and forfeit all free-time) in the off-season to make themselves better and hopefully get a scholarship to fund their college. I think by rewarding them with playing time, because they're better, is teaching them a lesson of life; You put in time, hard work, and effort in to something, it will pay off.

"Booger": I'm afraid you have no idea how bad its gotten in town w/this issue. It's widespread but I am speaking to a specific sport at the HS. The ADULT TEACHER coach has mentally, physically, and emotionally bullied/abused the KIDS. I'm pretty sure that the ADULT should know better. And I KNOW my daugther has NEVER bullied the coach.
Not asking for rainbows and butterflies; just asking for my child not to be abused. Pretty simple.

Wow, thank you Aaron Blevins for speaking the truth. Absolutely we have this going on EVERY DAY in Martinsville and much much worse that you describe! these things have been brought to Martinsville's Admininstration and they are going to do their "best" to monitor the issue. Many parents involved wonder who will be watching this particular coach to be sure the "action plan" is being followed and no retaliation against the players that brought it to light is done. We shall see. You talk about winning....however, this one doesn't even have to win to keep their job. Again, great article. How can we ask our kids not to bully eachother, when IN FACT, we allow the coaches that are OVER them to bully THEM!?!? Someone needs to get a hold of the issue before something terrible happens.

I agree that no other athlete should be punished for another sports advancement. It's completely unfair.
I have no football player or track athlete, but I do have a vball player. Our group is plagued with horrible issues with the varsity coach. The AD has been told on SEVERAL occassions by several parents and players about the mistreatment of the girls and its all documented but yet nothing is done. WHY?
