| tlh Thursday, August 16, 2012: 11:35 pm | USCitizen, AMEN! I'm sure you ment, "No one has taken the heat more than Mayor Deckard and Ross Holloway and they are still in the ring." They have taken and are still taking verbal and slanderous inuendo abuse, some from this very paper, not just the blog. Both of them have this community's best interest at heart. I am thankful they choose to serve all of us whether it is deserved or not. |
| Two interested in council post | |
| tlh Thursday, August 16, 2012: 11:06 pm | n m p 1, Has it occured to you that he just might have been the one to bring suggestions or ideas to the council or make motion that required a vote? He is very well versed on many subjects with an analytical mind and as I said he is NOT a rubber stamper! Although a conservative, impressing others is not as important to him as doing what is right for community. At this time, under the circumstances Dave Trout is THE BEST CHOICE! I certainly hope the Precinct Committeeman consider the needs of this community as THE important part of their vote and not just what kind of Party Player any candidate has been. |
| Two interested in council post | |
| tlh Thursday, August 16, 2012: 3:40 pm | n m p 1, You obviously DON'T know Trout or his proven abilities to think, research, and reason as a councilman! He is the PERFECT replacement especially at this time. He knows the background of work already done and comes to the table prepared with 'outside the box' intelligent ideas. To my knowledge he has never 'rubber stamped' anything and I appreciate that kind of councilman! |

To the committee I want to say you hit a HOME RUN right out of the park! This is what I'm talkin bout, SEE YA THERE ON THE SQUARE!!!!! |
| Options exist in city annex proposal | |
| tlh Friday, July 6, 2012: 3:15 pm | To Mark McDaniel, Thank you for the compliment of thinking that I am writing under the handle of, “To The Point” for I agree almost unequivocally with their posts. As you can see my handle is TLH and you can read my past posts to see I have been singing the same song for a long time, “Get involved!”. As for your question “Are you off your meds?” I laughed as I am sure you thought you were funny. I don’t need chemicals to enjoy life PTL! I am confident that at this point trying to explain what I get out of these “meetings where you can’t even speak!” would be a waste of time because at this point you can’t ‘hear’ for all your own bellowing. Those wanting to talk and ask questions were given 4, no, 5 meetings to do so. The law only required 1 (ONE)! It was the administrations choice to give more and I have asked them repeatedly why they are taking more of this kind of abuse. At regular council meetings our current Mayor asks if there are comments or questions about things on the meeting agenda and that has not been the case of past administrators. I for one enjoy the fact that this group truly has our best interests in mind when making decisions. Because of the sunshine law our councilmen can only communicate with each other as a group in front of the public so if you count the meeting on July 2 that makes 6 times you have had the opportunity to gather more information. I am a cheerleader of sorts, for this City because I love this community and am very proud of the current administration’s efforts to improve our infrastructure. This administration’s attitude can increase the possibility of future generations having a functioning working environment to call home. I think that will be a wonderful thing for our grandchildren and their grandchildren. I would think you and your family would want the same too. To quote you Mark, “Unfortunately you are one of the only three stooges the City can find to defend their actions so we will probably hear more of your “dribble”. Not to mention that you don’t even live in the annexed area.” The City didn’t “find” me nor does it employ me. I defend our Mayor and our Councilmen because they have been verbally attacked personally by emotionally overwrought and uninformed people like yourself who insist that these folks will gain financially in their own pocket. That just is NOT possible and you are smart enough to know that. As for my ‘dribble’ let me wind up by saying, you are right I don’t even live in the annexed area, I live in City limits and have been paying for those outside of it to benefit from water and sewer for some time. I feel that it is the right thing to do, GROW! I also think all who gain should share the cost. That’s what families and communities do; share. I look forward to sharing with this community at Artiefest Aug 13th weekend and hope to See Ya There on the Square! Tina Chafey |
| Not all against annexation | |
| tlh Friday, June 8, 2012: 7:10 am | You Got It Girl! The sad part is the highest percent of what is being heard at the meetings is negative and that is about 5% of the total owners that are being affected. NOT a fair balance by any standards. This administration is to be commended for going way over the extra mile in letting EVERYONE have their say. Last tonights meeting was number 6 and by law they only had to have 1. I say Mayor Deckard has bent over backwards to please and yet some still make inappropriate and slanderous comments, they should be embarrassed of themselves. It is very unclear to me how they think any of the administration is going to bennefit personally. For those nay sayers last night who kept pounding on what won't work then I say bring something usable to the council on the 1st and 3rd Monday of each month or take it to the Mayors office, either place has an open door philosophy and welcomes new input. I Love this City, raised my kids here, some of Grandchildren are here, would love for there to be security for them and theirs here too. Thank you for speaking out in a positive way. |
| City gives water hike final OK | |
| tlh Thursday, May 24, 2012: 12:12 am | Moose 65 Wondering: "How many of the city council members will be affected by the water rate increase?" Are ya kiddin me??? If they are on city council first criteria is they live in city limits! At what point did that seem like an intelligent question? |
| Guest Column: City planners should rethink annex, business parks | |
| tlh Tuesday, May 22, 2012: 10:42 am | LilaMae; You stated "Our "leaders" need to recognize that annexation is the worst possible scenario for those that have put you in the seats to make these decisions. Pay attention "Voters" and act accordingly when you realize they do not have your best interest at heart." Sorry to point out the obvious here but I am one that voted them in their seats and very proud of them for taking on this hot political suicide topic. As for "annexation is the worst possible scenario...", I really think you must be speaking about those who don't want it and they didn't "vote you in the seats to make these decisions." but if it goes through they will have that opportunity. Maybe more will get involved in coming to council meetings and then discover just how much this administration does have our best intrest at heart. Taxes, utilities, health care, and many other things are just going to keep going up for the administration as well as everyone elses so why not become a team and have a common goal instead of bickering amoung ourselves?. I propose doing away with the 2 party system and go with the Golden Rule plan God has in mind. Love one another. Just sayin..... |

| Annexation meeting format rankles residents | |
| tlh Saturday, May 12, 2012: 11:42 pm | Every single one of you on here that are bashing the administration about, "All they want is our money" and "They don't care about the residents" "Tax increase will cause loss of homes" "We need people who know how hard others have to work for our money that "the good old boys" over spend", must have forgotten that all of those elected and appointed live HERE!!!! and will pay exactly what we pay!!!! I say the only one on this blog that worth repeating is, Not from here. I find it very sad that the ones fighting growth and providing avenues that encourage our youth to stay and raise their familes here are the ones born and raised here. The same ones that are quick to say "Nobody cares about those old buildings tear em down!" or own the old buildings and won't put a dime into them out of their own pocket. They are also quoted as saying "We don't want change". I am of the same mind as Not from here that "I give the Mayor and Council credit for having the cajunas to actually take this on." I LOVE this city and am hoping that my children and grand children will have good reasons to raise their own right here in Martinsville. If half of the people that were at that meeting would get involved on the positive side, maybe attend some city council meetings, become team players, Martinsville would once again be a landmark place where Pesidents and movie stars alike wanted to visit. And those of us who CHOOSE to live here are PROUD to be apart of this community. Our current administration is to be commended for taking this politically volatile approach to our future, remember it's their future too and they have even more to risk! I have spoken with each and every member of this council and all have reservations, but the bottom line is if we don't grow we die, period. This administration is rising to the challange, let us lift them up and work together then we'll stop being slow and be starting to grow. PROUD TO LIVE IN MARTINSVILLE!!! |
| 1st annexation meeting set | |
| tlh Sunday, May 6, 2012: 11:53 pm | Turtle, where did you get your information? Where does it say the city is going to force you to hook up, pay $4500? You did NOT hear that at ANY city council meeting I have EVER attended. Why not come on the 1st and 3rd Mondays of the month at 7 in City Hall and hear first hand the facts!? |

| Bowlen elected council president | |
| tlh Tuesday, February 21, 2012: 10:58 pm | Forthepeople, Again a quote is taken out of context, he was talking about the vote only for president of council NOT all votes on other issues. PLEASE attend these meetings and get the facts straight. The Mayor ALWAYS asks for comments from the public so come let your voice be heard! |
| ‘Dancing’ is the word | |
| tlh Saturday, July 16, 2011: 8:22 am | What WONDERFUL evening! I am so proud to be a part of this community when I experiance things like last night. It was intresting to me to see many generations enjoying this event together. We raised our children here and now PRAISE THE LORD some of our grandchildren are here. If things keep improving the way they are maybe more young people will find Martinsville a GREAT place to call home. A huge thank you to our current administration and those who have the vision of what we are and going to become maybe in my lifetime. YEA MARTINSVILLE!!!! |
| Deckard wins GOP nod for another term | |
| tlh Thursday, May 26, 2011: 10:29 pm | I'm with ya Spanky! Oh and here is a great sidebar that Just observing should enjoy, yesterday was VB's last day at the office. Pity, Packer truck won't get much press now. I really thought I had a grand plan to get water office out of debt. It was good for a visual though don't ya think? |

| tlh Sunday, May 15, 2011: 10:33 pm | GREAT job!!! I am once again reminded of how proud I am to be a part of this community. It is so great to see the City, the County, and the citizens working together. Thanks to all! |

| Deckard wins GOP nod for another term | |
| tlh Tuesday, May 3, 2011: 9:41 pm | Patriot, you've got that right!!! Now I have to put out somewhat of a negative/positive, who knows who is selling tickets to watch Mrs Buttsquirt work from her new position off the back of the packer truck? I bet we could make enough money to get water company out of debt, oh by the way, which is where Mr BS put us! Just sayin! |
| City council candidates answer chamber survey | |
| tlh Friday, April 29, 2011: 6:45 pm | Terry Hart so sorry about the confusion again. Hate to disappoint Danny especially because he thinks I'm a girl, but I am not LuLu. I would like to go on record as stating I think LuLu made a direct hit about "the former mayor, ...Let's keep it that way". Also really enjoyed LuLu's take on Spina's preoccupation with Halloway.I did notice that Buttsquirt had no problems with Halloway,of course not, he couldn't have managed without him. As for me writing for Juanita McGraw, not a chance. Ms McGraw has been "Telling It Like It Is" so long that only she can remember those things, in fact I beleive she told us all how BS had known about the water issues for years because she had brought it up many times and even written letters to the editor concerning those issues during BS's dictatiorship. Oh and to Just Wondering, of course BS thinks hitting, intimidation, and flat lying is okay as long as he gets what he wants. If I had known that fact 16 years ago I would have forgotten my veiw on term limits and relected DECKARD for MAYOR then. |
| City council candidates answer chamber survey | |
| tlh Wednesday, April 27, 2011: 8:10 am | Thanks Danny. While we're talking about what we heard last evening, alot of what the negative comments were made by BS he himself caused. BS keeps harping about the Water, give me a break, her highness herself isn't making things abit better with her customer service skills. Read between the lines folks. Good Lord, do we really want that team again?!? People really need to attend meetings and see this admministration at work. Spina said,"I will give $5,000.00 of the Mayor's salary to the park fund" if he had attended meetings he would know that $5,000.00 is a drip of what is needed. In all reality he doesn't bring the right tools to the table. Throwing money at something isn't the only tools needed. Spinas big drive is to save 'us' money by cutting Halloway out, if he really knew what is going on he would know just how much money Ross and his abilities have saved us. Even Buskirk knows how many times Ross saved his lame butt over the years. Neither of these guys have the team work skills or the knowledge of who and when to bring in skilled, intelligent individuals like Sharyn Kersey. ONLY ONE CHOICE FOR THAT. DECKARD FOR THE NEXT 4!!!!!! |
| City council candidates answer chamber survey | |
| tlh Tuesday, April 26, 2011: 10:41 pm | You know Doug, I think Owl has a very good point, I too have heard your ideas and am seeing them finally coming to fruition. I have also seen you go nose to nose during Buttsquirt's reign about the taxpayers saying "NO!" to spending 5 million $ on firestation, we all lost on that battle, but I appreciated you trying. So yep, I think you could have taken more time and gotten a bit more wordy on each issue but, whoa say howdy you did a GREAT Job on Meet the Candidates on WCBK. I look forward to hearing you in action again on the first and third Mondays sitting next to Eric Bowlen, working on the same team for all of us taxpayers, as it should have been last election. City employees should NOT be allowed to run for those seats. And if we had term limits we wouldn't have had to endure 12 years of a dictatorship. You Doug, have always had an open door policy as does the current admmistration. I can only hope to see many more people get involved by coming to City Council meetings and letting their voice be heard. I know for a fact Mayor Deckard asks for comments and thoughts at EVERY meeting. VOTE ARTHUR!! VOTE DECKARD!!! THE ONLY CHOICE FOR SUCCESS!!!! |
| Doing same things over insane | |
| tlh Wednesday, April 20, 2011: 12:25 pm | Wake up! The others can't debate against Phil and they know it. I would pay money to watch them try. In fact I bet many would love to see that and would be willing to pay for the opportunity. Maybe money could go to new playground equipment at city park. |
| Spina says he’d bring business acumen to office | |
| tlh Wednesday, April 20, 2011: 8:00 am | Arse,PossiblySpina's quote, "Businesses don't pay taxes. consumers do.", could shed some light on his business practice. And he was overheard saying "I'll just fire city councilmen" does he really understand so little that he thinks the Mayor hires and fires councilmen?!? As for "Buttsquirt" his 12 years of ineptness and slammed shut door policy with his wife as 'temporary' gatekeeper/excutive assitant, speaks for itself. He is someone who abused the excutive session. I for one could never vote for a 'team' that thinks abuse, intimidation or dictatorship is acceptible. You are dead on about Danny Stewart. Debate? There is nothing these people could debate, collectively they haven't got a clue what our current administration has accomplished and are well on the road to getting done in the next 4 years. There is only one clear message I'm getting from our current administration, "Come to the meetings, you will be heard, be a part of helping make this community a wonderful place to live." I'm with you Arse, Deckard is getting my hard earned vote! |
| Buskirk, Deckard face off again in primary | |
| tlh Thursday, January 20, 2011: 8:13 am | n m p 1, I find it most interesting that of all the things that Sunny was dead on about, all you got from it was Deckard wants to annex more of the county into the city limits, like that is a negative. WAKE UP! Take ownership, get involved! I think the one HUGE factor I will be considering when I vote is how Mayor Deckard handled the flood, I thank The Lord everyday that Buttsquirt wasn't at the helm then. If he and ms axxwipe take over again we will truly become a ghost town. Remember always BS was in charge when Walmart was moved, when BS was king.... Hell it just flat isn't worth taking the time to type all his failures or bad decisions. But I leave you with this, BS was the one who allowed the person who owned many (11 I think) buildings on the square to do whatever, without permits I might add, and those buildings are just now starting to get bought and improved thanks to ordinances Deckard and his council have put into place. I for one think that is gonna make a huge difference and Sunny is right, those ordinances and permits need, no, HAVE to be enforced. BS has proven he isn't capable of that. WAKE UP! TAKE OWNERSHIP! Get INVOLVED! |
| Buskirk, Deckard face off again in primary | |
| tlh Wednesday, January 19, 2011: 10:36 pm | Ratcatcher I didn't see where the name Buttsquirt was dubbed but you are killin me with,"Martinsville-a Buttsquirt-free community"! Now that is worth breakin out the beer and cigars for the monkeys!!!!! As for you Cowboy, you are dead on!!!!! Lest us not forget and that is only part of the list, I'm sure we can all add to it in the days to come. The up side is even with the mess he was left with Deckard has moved us forward into a progressive thinking community couple that with a city council and city employees that can work together well and we could actually be called a team. Totally new concept would be to add a few Democrats and Independants. Whoops in my excitment I momentarily stepped away from reality. Bless my little monkey heart. |

| Mayor Shannon Buskirk | |
| tlh Friday, December 18, 2009: 4:12 pm | It is I, TLH! The heading is gone it was in the column on the right, maybe it was to see how many were paying attention. I hope there won't be more of that offensive bs. The whole 12yrs were bad dream enough. As for 'his stuff jiggle', please DO NOT GO THERE!! It was especially entertaining when angry and turned red like a , let's say turkey...! Oh and you are so dead on about Ed's work, it is pricless! I only hope he saw that heading this morning so he can get on and comment. As for the lack of info about Madrigal dinner, you would think RT would have a comment or explanation, after all they put ghost hunting on the front page Monday. I am certainly glad the parents and grandparents of those hard working kids don't subscribe to this paper because if they did they might change their minds. I betting I would. |
| Mayor Shannon Buskirk | |
| tlh Friday, December 18, 2009: 10:26 am | Why is this under "Most popular stories today on R-T"? Notice the date of this article, Sept 22, 2006, It didn't impress me in 2006 and I sure don't need to revisit it now. And while I'm at it, why wasn't there coverage online of this years Madrigal Dinner? You would think since every sporting event gets home page on here that the most elite singing talents at Martinsville high school could at least get a few sentences. |
