The paper and news reporters make me mad, just like this case they do not know the person that is involved in what happened and they want to make it sound like it is a crime to try and slow someone down that is driving stupid and could kill someone or really hurt someone. I am friends with O'Dell and he would never hurt anyone and he did not want this girl to hurt anyone either. If she was paying attention like she was suppose to she would have not caused this to happen. In this article it states that O'Dell should have called the cops and told them, it also states in this article that the dispatcher heard him tell the girl to get out of the car, then he called the cops to get help.... I think that the newspaper and the news should get there facts straight before the give information out......

Nate O'Dell needs to review the job description of a volunteer firefighter not to mention the U.S. Constitution. Mr. O'Dell is lucky he was in Martinsville, and a member of the Good ole Boy Network, i.e. Jake Garner (6 months for 21 counts of arson) and the innocent civilian he unlawfully stopped was an unsuspecting female on her way to work. If this incident does not represent a case of " illegaly impersonating an officer"....what does? Quite frankly, Mr. O'Dell is lucky he wasn't met with the business end of a legally concealed weapon.

Alpha,

Didnt Mr Garner only get a total of 4 counts against him and not all were arson? Just curious of why you would wanna bring him up in this since its been what 2 years now and he is old news. By the way since your on Mr Garners case. Do you personally know him? I knew him before and after he served his time and he really has changed. Many people become repeat offenders but I really do believe my buddy has changed and Jail made him open his eyes some and see how fast life can be taken away! And also Mr Odell didnt stop her. It even states she didnt see his lights and he followed her to work which could translate into stalking couldnt it?

I say to you again, I do not want someone in the fire department, volunteer or paid, to come to my house with such poor decision making skills. My whole neighborhood could be in jeopardy.

According to you,(Themanishere)....isn't that slander?

micki,
It is not the place for non-LEO to follow and confront (peaceable or otherwise) another person on their driving or on any accord when others break the law, unless life and limb is in imminent danger. Then it's a personal call. Follow at a safe distance and calling 911 is the proper way to do it. Flashing blue lights are a courtesy light only. You do NOT have to pull over for a blue light. Should you...sure. The blue light gives no one the right to break any laws of the road. They must stop at stop signs and can't exceed the speed limit. Can't get mad and bump draft if someone doesn't pull over. A volunteer firefighter's personal vehicle is NOT an emergency vehicle. There are many fine and dedicated firefighters in Morgan County. This O'Dell guy made a very bad decision; does it make him the devil on earth? No, but it does make a negative mark on those (vol. FF) that do abide by the law and do not think being a vol. firefighter makes you a traffic cop or the flashing blue lights and the blue strobes in the grill make you KING of the road.

A couple people have mentioned how they "personally know" someone who has done this, that, and the other. My question is, since when has that made a difference? Sure, criminal trials can have character witnesses that provide mitigating circumstances and whatnot, but they do not change facts. I personally know someone who shot a police officer a few years back, but he was a good kid growing up. Should this change anything? Now don't get me wrong, I'm not specifically commenting on the guilt of Mr. O'Dell or Mr. Garner, because I don't know all the facts in either case, I'm just saying the fact you know someone doesn't automatically make them innocent.
