It involves issues of freedom, responsibility, parental rights, religion, politics and many other realms of life. The minimum drinking age of 21 in the U.S. appears to be not only ineffective but actually counter-productive. Although it was passed with the best of intentions, it has had some of the worst of outcomes. Read more. As an alternative to stigmatizing alcohol and scaring people into self-restraint, we need to show that it’s not alcohol itself but abusive alcohol drinking that poses the major problem. Teenagers are educated that if they drink, they must do so with restraint and responsibility. This has permitted many students to stay clear of alcohol abuse troubles that are overwhelming our society. > Read more. Pinky, you seem to have a level head on your shoulders. I would strongly suggest that you continue to teach yourself about matters of drugs and alcohol and that you share your education with others. You could help save one of their lives. As a parent, I never told my children what they could do or not do. They were told about consequences. They were given enough information to make informed decisions, as I hope that you are getting now. The more you know, the better chance you have of making the right decision. To have someone tell you no is like having someone talk to you like a dog-"sit, stay, rollover". It is not appropriate when talking with kids and will not work. As we both know, they are going to do it anyway, if not just in spite. So, educate yourself on these very important issues and I trust that you will make the approriate decision for yourself when the time comes. Also, please remember, that people around you want you home safely each and every time and that they care about you enormously. Peace. |
