Another wonderful Distorter-Times typo: "With respect to any individual over whom the governing body has jurisdiction. . . "

Um, surely you mean, "An individual" as in a single one, as in the Superintendent.

Otherwise, if you really mean "any," then how could this be an executive session, given that the School Board holds jurisdiction over the entire school corporation -- surely EVERYBODY isn't invited, given that executive sessions are closed?

Why the negative vote? This is a vote on the newspaper's typo, not on the individual in question. Geez, you must be the editor.

My dear Themanishere, before you write such a derogatory statement I would STRONGLY recommend that you use spell check.

"Heck" would have a comma that follows.

"it" what is "it", did you mean the newspaper?

That would be: an embarrassment.

Also, "can't" is a contraction and requires an apostrophe before the t. I just thought you should know.

Humiliated yet? Hubris. (look it up)

Signed, Rhamnousia (look it up)

It wasn't a typo. The press release said "any" not "an."

Hoosier,

I thank you for seeing all my errors. I never claimed to be the best english language writer or typer, but you would think that a newspaper would atleast go through everything before the publish it. Maybe they do I dont know. To me it seems like the " big stories" always have a lot of errors in it. Maybe because they are so excited to have breaking news on a public figure or are ready to drag yet another person through the dirt. Hell Hoosier you taught me more in 10 seconds then the teachers did in my 12 years of school lol

Themanishere, I paid a lot of money to a private college to educate one of the writers at this paper. I get alittle defensive on occasion. Take care.

Themanishere, no, no, I don't. The people who work for the paper take pride in their work. I think they do the best job that they can. Are there mistakes? Sure. We are humans, we are fallible. And I think I have stated to you before, our local newspapers are our first line of defense for democracy.

I wish you would take it easy on these people, they too are trying to make a living and provide you with the best possible news and information that they can. If you don't like the mud slinging in a story, don't read it. Same as the tv, change the station. Give some respect to these folks. You don't go to a comedy club and heckle the comedian do you?

Peace.

Wow! Now I've seen it all! A member of the RT staff has mommy or daddy on here defending all of their mistakes! HA HA HA! HA HA HA! Ooh...I can't stop laughing! HA HA HA! HA HA HA! Ooh...OK...OK...I'm OK now...(*SIGH*)...

I find it hard to believe that one single member of the RT staff has been to college. I could SO easily take on the role of Copy Editor and successfully eliminate all typos and misuse of the English language. You see, the difference between me and the person(s) now responsible for this is that I CARE about eliminating mistakes that make stories confusing or difficult to read or understand. And, if it was my job, I would care about such embarrassing mistakes! If you're going to do something, do it right AND take pride in doing it right! You are being paid to do it well AND do it right! It's NOT only about providing the best possible news and information! It's also about QUALITY over QUANTITY, in a manner of speaking.

Nothing grates on my nerves more than reading a story supposedly written by a professional and finding a grammatical error or misused punctuation. Your basic typos, such as transposed letters, actually don't bother me as much because it's obvious what the real words are and the context isn't debatable. (Seeing something like "wrod" instead of "word" isn't as questionable as "any" instead of "an".) However, all mistakes in newspapers are intolerable mistakes! LEARN TO USE SPELL CHECK AND ANY OTHER TOOL YOU CAN FIND! You don't need college to know to do at least that!

Wow...people just can't find enough to complain about these days, can they?

I think it was pointed out that the press release said ANY, not AN. If you've forgotten what a press release is, let me offer a simple definition that can be found by a quick search with any online search engine : "press release - an official written statement that is sent to the media so that it can be publicized". So it wasn't a mistake by the newspaper, they were quoting the press release from the school board (hence those " " around the statement).

Are there typos and grammatical errors in the paper? Sure, everyone makes those mistakes, even professionals. Are there more here than in other, larger circulated, newspapers? Probably. Is it the end of the world? Doubtful.

Oh, and for the record I'm not related to, or responsible for the education of, any member of the newspaper staff. I'm just some crazy guy whose day does not hinge on the grammatical correctness of the article I am reading in the Reporter-Times.
