read more recent story comments Reader comments| drummer Friday, April 2, 2010: 1:26 pm More from drummer | good points all............ a teacher with a dui would be fired or encouraged to leave.... ostracized......... just being a fat cat shouldn't exempt lawbreakers from justice........... the boomer generation likes to deal out consequences for others but not themselves......... time for a better generation |
| Martinsville Citizen Friday, April 2, 2010: 1:50 pm More from Martinsville Citizen | He should resign instead of being another black eye to the community. WHAT IS HAPPENING TO MARTINSVILLE'S LEADERS? |
| A Hoosier Friday, April 2, 2010: 2:09 pm More from A Hoosier | Martinsville citizen, Our leaders are getting the "I know you-free pass". And it is becoming more and more detrimental to our community. Peace. |
| Liberty Friday, April 2, 2010: 2:35 pm More from Liberty | Please parents of our community. Take your children out of the GEC's. Work a part time job and put them in a private school. Visit a home school work shop or convention and find out how you can far out perform the GEC teachers who's only real remembered training is to how to work and promote the GEC system. I believe if you would only do your own investigation on any of your options you would see more opportunities than you think. Don't ask a GEC system employee because they are trained to slander and demonize home school. That go's for a past Superintendent of Mooresville who publicly slammed a home school parent in front of a bleacher full of people when he found out she was a home schooling her children. Even though her children test two grades ahead of his GEC school children and are several grades ahead in emotional maturity. Thats why in Indiana the state law completely removes the authority from the local school system on home school matters. Check out your options, I know you can do it. |
| Greg Friday, April 2, 2010: 9:41 pm More from Greg | If the School Board doesn't fire Furniss, we all need to get to the polls and replace the school board. SOMEONE is this community REALLY needs to do what we pay them for... anyone! Between judges, mayors, sheriff's deputies, school boards, fire chiefs, and all of their respective families, this county is going belly-up. No wonder we need a work release center... our local government would shut down if we had to keep the cons in jail! |
| Liberty Saturday, April 3, 2010: 1:06 am More from Liberty | Greg, I would vote for you for the school board. I would also vote for Danny Stewart. |
| Living In Reality Saturday, April 3, 2010: 11:28 am More from Living In Reality | As a parent of a child who wasn't allowed to go to post prom because she was a passenger in the same car with the kids who were caught drinking; I am appalled that it is even a question that Furniss should keep his job. Our high school condemed all of the kids whether they were drinking or not. Alkire told all of the parents present that our kids were guilty by association. Lets face it we are all human beings and we make mistakes. However if our school system is going to continue to operate and enforce a zero tolerance policy than that policy should apply to everyone who works for the school system. No wonder our kids don't respect anyone of authority. |

Why would the kids respect the hypocrites? You are absolutely right here Living In Reality. |
| herewegoagain Saturday, April 3, 2010: 5:00 pm More from herewegoagain | It's funny how a woman can right something like this that doesn't have any children in school herself or grandchildren. What, just because she use to work as a aide at a school she thinks she knows it all..If she is such a caring person about our school children, it looks like her own grown children would have something to do with her. It's hard to believe anything that comes from that woman's mouth. She needs to look at the cobwebs in her closet before she goes ditching on someone else. |
| Liberty Saturday, April 3, 2010: 5:50 pm More from Liberty | Ron, you have set a bad example for all the students in our school district, I hope and pray they don’t follow in your footsteps and they have a fun and safe prom this year. It will be a shame on the school board if this man keeps his job. Keep in mind this has absolutely nothing to do with Ron Furniss and everything to do with the children he was hired to lead. A School system Superintendent position is not a job, it's a leadership position of which he is no longer capable of performing. Plain and simple. His excessive drug use in school property completely disqualifies him from holding a leadership position of children. Period |
| SpectrumMommy Saturday, April 3, 2010: 11:50 pm More from SpectrumMommy | corruption abounds in martinsville's leaders. whole system needs an overhaul |
| guldikr Monday, April 5, 2010: 10:05 am More from guldikr | I think that the ZERO TOLERANCE policy should be in effect for all school administrators if it is in place for the students. As role models you lead by example, if you can't be a positive role model then you shouldn't be in a position that children should be able to look up to. |
