Former county auditor wants to bring ‘fresh eyes’ to clerk’s office
read more recent story comments Reader comments| Liberty Saturday, April 3, 2010: 10:16 pm More from Liberty | I had a call from my heavenly Father to serve in more of a front line way with people. What ? “I want to change the image of Morgan County. I want to change the image to where more people want to raise their families here.” A clerk has something to do with that ? Look Peggy Mayfield took over a mess of a clerks office with thousands of dollars misplace and record keeping that was embarrassing. Peggy Mayfield took over and very quickly cleaned up the mess and put the office of clerk in a top notch condition. Extremely and professionally run. Managed flawlessly not only mid-termed elections but a record turn out Presidential election Plus two rare and flawless school referendums with all the intricacies and acquired legal knowledge to make them a success. Now I'm not picking on anybody here but I am amazed at why another Republican would want to remove a professional like Peggy Mayfield form the best run office in county government and replace her with a rookie who's basically only brings the ability to balance a check book to the job. Along with her resume above you can see her skills my be more in the sales area and I hope for the county's sake nobody will by her story of using God and being on the front line selling homes as some reason to be the County Clerk. There is a certain oder in her story. I bet she was real good at making up those little Home descriptions that sucks in people to see a house. The person with the expertise and qualifications of running a successful county clerks office is hard to find. And once you do you should keep it. . |

Free Pancakes ????.....Hummmm well maybe i was a little one sided here......OH POOP. Now you see what food can do to a fat boy. It almost made me throw common sense out the window in my decision making...You see folks you can't fall for a house salesman's schemes and trick. Just the act of using them exposes a form of deceit that we can no longer allow in a public office. We should only vote on performance and qualifications that are relevant to the job. Which means we have but one to pick from. What kind of syrup ? |
| Give Me A Break Thursday, April 8, 2010: 1:40 pm More from Give Me A Break | "Running for the office and not against......" is the oldest political primary election excuse in the world. Peggy Mayfield is a tough cookie who runs a tight ship. I watched her challenge a vote once with a citizen of our fair community and stood nose to nose with this person because she knew it was the RIGHT thing to do. She has never been in the headlines because of inept handling of either her office, her employees, or her budget and that hasn't always been the case in our County Clerk's office. I believe the challenger here is being supported by the former Clerk, a current Commissioner, and maybe even the County Republican Central Committee, oh wait--those are all the same people!! Ms. Cooper: you are a good person, but I am so sorry you let someone (or a group of someones) talk you into this. I was truly disappointed when I heard you were "running against" an incumbent who has done a great job-and, yes, you ARE running against her. |
| A Hoosier Thursday, April 8, 2010: 1:47 pm More from A Hoosier | Give me a break, I dig Peggy too. My problem is with the OWI charge her husband walked away from with absolutely no consequences. I just can't seem to get past it. Another blemish on the community. With that being said, my option is a candidate who walked out of her elected office. I won't even consider voting for Sarah Palin because of that. What is a girl to do? Is there a Democrat running for this office? |
| Give Me A Break Thursday, April 8, 2010: 2:17 pm More from Give Me A Break | I don't know if there is a Dem running in the Primary but I betcha there will be in the Fall. |

Hoosier, What is a girl to do? Is there a Democrat running for this office? What ? For some reason this reminds me of the lady who complained to the store manager that a certain brand of sweet tea didn't have enough sugar in it. When the manager was unable to offer a sweeter tea substitute she bought a jug of the un-sweetened tea off the other shelf and got used to drinking bitter nasty tea. She also forced all who she lived around to drink it when they came to visit. When they complained about how bitter it was and what happened to the good tea she used to serve she just replied. It wasn't as sweet as I liked it to be. Hum... Keep in mind, Dean doesn't hold nor is he running for office. His charges were dropped because the local prosecutor kept delaying the process til they passed the deadline to proceed. Yes that smells bad but that's not Peggy's fault. Vote the Prosecutor out. :) Hey....you know... there's another body we can throw on the Springerville Spring Cleaning Fire. YA ! That's the Ticet !! YUK YUK YUK YUK |

His charges were dropped because the local prosecutor kept delaying the process til they passed the deadline to proceed. Yes that smells bad but that's not Peggy's fault. Vote the Prosecutor out. :) How many other cases did the prosecutor delay and the criminal went unpunished? If Peggy was not in the county clerk's office would this have happened? As you expect, Ron Furniss to resign, I expect the county clerk to demand that her family members are treated the same as everyone else. Peace. |

I expect, Ron Furniss to resign, because of his own failings not those of others. I can't understand the attempted logic. It wasn't Ron's wife who got the DUI. I believe in personal responsibility. . I am beginning to understand why you want drugs legalized :) :) :) . |
| A Hoosier Thursday, April 8, 2010: 5:09 pm More from A Hoosier | Lib, you big jerk. LOL. Legalize drugs so folks will not have to have territory wars and drug wars, fewer dead people. You and I both know that Dean was not held accountable because of his wife. He even asked the police when they arrested him "Do you know who I am?" These are my expectations of my elected officials. As you have expectations from your school superintendent. BTW, thanks for the giggles. Peace. |
