concentrated equivalent of .15 percent

His alcohol concentrated level was .16 percent not .15. The .15 was what the charge was reduced to because the penalties were less and by doing so he would get off with a slap on the hand but not the factual documented level.

The School Board must ask for his resignation for failing in his position as a leader of young people and the people who teach them, by having a alcohol level of .16 percent while in school property.

.
Hope they don't think this reschedule delay tactic will brush this aside.

We need to pay very close attention to the Martinsville School Board in the election.

I can't believe that Furniss hasn't already resigned. Unless he already knows something that we don't. I encourage everyone who has kids in our school system to attend this meeting.

My two daughters have gone through the Martinsville School System, and I have no complaints with the job that Dr. Furniss has done. Certainly, he has made a terrible error in judgment, but it should not spell the end of his career. The man needs compassion, forgiveness, and a second chance.

Reallyl Kip06; Do you think he has any compassion for our young kids who make the wrong choice. Do you think he gave forgiveness or second chance when some teens last year at prom were drinking in a LIMO...Some were even suspended because they were guilty from association. I don't think so...HE HAS TO SET AN EXAMPLE...NOW IF HE CAN"T HANDLE IT THEN HE NEEDS TO GO...Everyone has bad years and stressful years..and many have gone through divorce and surgery...and does not give you the RIGHT to drink and drive in a vehicle our town pays for and jeopardize any innocent person on the road...SOrry MR. FURNESS..time to learn your lesson..GOOD LUCK IN A NEW TOWN AND A NEW JOB... Hopefully you will not make the same mistake twice...

Kipp,
You are correct, partially. Mr. Furniss did make a terrible error in judgement, but sometimes terrible errors in judgement require consequences. Just like the two police officers currently suspended, Furniss knew better (and if he/they didn't know better, he/they should have) than to do what he did, but he did it anyway. Complete disregard for the school's and society's rules. Now it's time to pay the piper and sometimes the piper demands great compensation. He should resign on his own and not put the school system and this community through any more grief due to his inconsiderate behavior. His actions were not a mistake, but a deliberate action that endangered others.

Just the fact that he hasn't resigned by now means he doesn't have a clue of the importance leadership plays in the position of Superintendent. Thus, he has damned himself.

This lack of understanding will also be looked at by other school systems as a negative. He will earn his future income as a consultant and do fine.

The School Board doesn't have to make a decision, Ron Furniss has already made it for them.

He got a 5 day suspension and "other penalties". Maybe they won't let him be at graduation.
