Between the School system promoting getting drunk and driving cars and the police doing child abuse runs for incompetent day cares, this town doesn't seem to be doing our young people any favors lately.

At one time we could say Morgan County was a good place to raise your children but I'm not sure that is the Governments focus any more.

With both officers spotted past of disciplin, I don't see how the city can keep these two on the force. If they are permitted to keep their jobs, just imagine the HUGE law suit settlement that will be awarded the victim the next time they violate someone. It's called WILLFUL NEGLECT and it pays big!

I'm glad to see the mayor step up and deal with this. Now lets see if the Board can follow through.

Great first step, but let's see what the final action will be. I still say the "good ole boy" network will kick in and these two will get a smack on the hand or the worst that will happen is Jennings will be asked to retire, then given a job at the jail or as a dispatcher and Johnson will probably loose his job since he is new around here.

I don't agree with the one officer using a taser to deal with a ten year old kid, put him in cuffs until he calms down even if that takes a couple of hours.

I will also add that if I was ten and went home crying to my parents because I called a cop the f word and he slapped me in the mouth all that would lead to is my butt being sorer than my mouth was. My parents would look at it as a good life lesson and explain that actions have consequences. As far as him slapping the kid I think there should be a reprimand, but he shouldn't lose his job over it.

abathar, I agree with first statement regarding the tasering. However, I cannot disagree more with you on the slapping part. The way I see it, if my child needs to be disciplined, I should be the one to do it. A police officer (public servant) is not supposed to strike a grown man let alone a 10 year old child who should feel safe when they see the police...

Just my two cents.

Obviously, when the police had to be called the caregiver extinguished all avenues of reprimanding the child. People need to step back and walk in the shoes of the officers. When they drive up and see the commotion going on they have to be in police mode. Nowadays kids this age are stronger and are carrying weapons. They walk into a situation daily not knowing if they will walk away alive or not. We just sit at our computers and past judgement on how these men should be dealt with. You can't just put adolescent children in the corner for time-out if they are throwing a fit and spouting obscenities. I just feel for anyone that is in this situation, because who can afford to lose a their job nowadays.

Remember, the reason the boy was slapped was because he refused to say he was sorry for saying "f*** you". This was not a grown adult being apprehended or resisting arrest. After the child "calmed down" both officers left the scene and left him there...

my four cents.

be real, you need to get real.

Yes, the incompetent day care should have handled things differently as well, but how dare a police officer strike someone in an act of anger? Jennings obviously lost control of his emotions and better judgement. WE ALL HAVE FIRST AMENDMENT RIGHTS, regardless.
