If these two keep their jobs - let's put some new faces in our elected positions in November.

If a parent slapped and tasered their OWN child for disobeying, the child would be in foster care and the parents would be charged with abuse. PERIOD.

Like A Hoosier said - "Come on down to Martinsville. The cops will taser your kid and the school superintendent is driving around drunk. We have fights at our funerals and state troopers that will give you a ticket on 37. It’s a great place to hang out."

THIS STUFF IS WHAT IS MAKING MARTINSVILLE "ALIVE" AGAIN.

Why have there been no charges brought against Jennings for assault on a minor? Mr. Sonnega can you answer this? A unarmed 94lb 10 year old is hit in the mouth by a police officer and no arrest yet? If I hit a 10 year old that is not my child because I believe they are causing problems, I would be arrested. Is the Morgan County Prosecutor saying the Martinsville Police are above the law? These guys assaulted an unarmed child. Fire them and charge them with their crime!

"When asked if Jennings, who has been on the department for more than 35 years could retire, Deckard said that is an option."

Read my earlier post when this first happened. I said Jennings would retire and then be rehired as a jailer or dispatcher.

Why are they not in jail? They assaulted a Unarmed, 94lbs, 10 year old. Are we saying the police are above the law?

"Deckard said that, during their discussion with Johnson, several new items were discovered. He declined to say if those items changed his outlook on the officers’ actions."

What's does this really say: Since time has pasted, they came up with a new story or lies that may justify what happened.

"Deckard added that, Johnson’s actions appear to be justified by Taser International."

Taser International is a Developer and manufacturer of non-lethal stun devices. Of course these guys want the cops to use the taser, they sell them. Come on Mayor!

If we as a community are going to let the rest of the world know that we are serious about changing our reputation, then we must start holding people accountable for their actions. Letting these officers go unpunished will be a crime to our community, to its citizens, and more importantly to a 10-year old boy who has no parents.

I feel sorry for the economic development folks of Morgan County, the Chamber of Commerce, and the RHM. They are working their tails off to improve the quality of life in Morgan County, only to be slapped in the face with this very detrimental PR.

I definitely dont like or agree with the use of the Taser on the kid, I feel they could have restrained him better, but I always thought if there was one of them who stood a chance of keeping his job, it was Johnson. I imagine he could make a somewhat convincing case for his action - again, I DO NOT buy it, but Im not making the decisions.

If Jennings walks away able to retire and no additional punishment (or worse yet, keeps his job), then there is a SERIOUS miscarriage of justice here. I'm not a lawyer, so I'd definitely want someone with a law degree to explain to me how slapping that kid across the face is not a crime. It would be impossible for any "new discoveries" to convince me that it was ok to slap that kid.

David,
If Steve Sonnega does not press charges I suggest you do want I will be doing send a complaint to federal and state agencies and express our concern with the handling of this. Some agencies would be US Dept. of Justice, Attorney General, FBI, Child and Human Services, etc.

Johnson is probably now saying that Jennings didn't smack the boy, just put his hand over is mouth. They will find a way to help out Jennings he is one of the "good ole boys" of Martinsville.

I don't know either one of the officers but there comes a time to be held responsible for your actions. As far as I am concerned one is just as guilty as the other. I sure hear a lot about the "good ole boys" club of Martinsville though. Perhaps something that has been around for much too long. Maybe new faces is the only options.

Next time you have an unruly child, call the parents to pick the kid up. Do not call a police officer or scold a teacher when your children yell F- bombs and spit on adults. Take your unruly children and deal with them. Problem solved. No Martinsville in the news - again - for idiots and bigots and hillbillies who wind sprint to the cameras when they pull up.
