Well if they are going to enforce the covenant for chickens, then it should be across the board for anything else listed in those covenants. If they signed it then they should have read it. If you think you are above the rules, I am sure a judge would be quick to point out that you are not. Let's see if the Mayor will "grandfather" those that could be attached with any political clout in the sub-division. Should be interesting.

The city needs to stay in the city and leave the country folks alone! Watch out they will be tazering your chickens before you know it! Doesnt the city have enough to deal with then worry about a buffer zone???? Wow

If these folks signed the covenants, they have little recourse. As for the city ordinance, those can be changed. Most large cities even allow chickens. Some require permits, limit the number of chickens you can own, or prohibit owning roosters, but prohibitions on owning chickens in the city have been falling around the country for years. I can tell you that there are literally thousands of chickens within the buffer zone, and Code Enforcement and our local police dept. combined don't have the manpower to pursue this on a large scale. How the city hopes to enforce this, with much of the buffer zone also being zoned as agriculture, is beyond me.

Why in the world would anyone who wanted to raise chickens build a home in a residential sub-division? And, why are we to believe these people checked out Foxcliff's covenants but failed to check if there were any covenants in this one? This is nuts. I would be raising a fuss, too. If I had to look at, listen to, and smell chickens when I was in my yard, it would be war. I don't believe these people have the majority of their fellow sub-division residents on their side, either. Nope, don't believe it.

Give Me A Break, I think you would be surprised by how little of a fuss chickens really are. Roosters are noisy and can even be aggressive, but hens are not that way. They are much less trouble, noise, and waste than a dog, and they give you eggs and bug control in return for your time and effort. You do not need to have a rooster to get eggs. I have been raising chickens on a city lot in a residential subdivision for 8 years, and most of my neighbors don't even know they are here. The ones who do know are the ones buying our eggs and sitting in their yards watching them scratch around my place. They really are a very enjoyable hobby.

I live in a subdivision and own 13 chickens, 5 rabbits, 10 dogs, 1 cat and plan on having two hogs (as soon as I can find them). Our covenants forgot to mention anything about farm critters. Not to mention, these animals do not impact my neighbors’ one iota. Most of them did not even know I had them.

I guess some people just like telling others how they should have to live.

Your neighbors don't know you have 10 dogs? And I guess we're to believe they won't know you get 2 hogs, too, right? I'll have what you're having!

Greg, You are right. Chickens are very cool to have around. The egg production is one awesome aspect but they are also very entertaining.

Give me a break, I meant the farm animals. 6 of the dogs are pups and they are cute....6 days old. They didn't know I had the hog or the chickens. We have 200 acres back here and 17 land owners.

Most of my neighbors have two or three dogs and some own several cats. Sorry, no houses for sale. My neighbors rock!

Liberty, the fertilizer does help the flowers grow!!!
