VOTE ROBERSON AND KING! How any conservative red blooded American could vote for someone that donated $10,500 to the democratic party, specifically Julia Carson is way beyond me. Did you think that wouldn't get out Melanie?

This is about education, not politics. Julia Carson & the Democratic Party have nothing to do with the Mooresville School Board. Neither does the Republican Party for that matter.

Honestly, this is a tough choice for me, but I am leaning towards DePoy. At least she is educated and has some experience in education. King just wants to keep them from buildng anything new or raising taxes.

And he says there are two empty classrooms at Waverly Elementary. Has he seen them? I sure haven't. It's because it's not true. Waverly is slowly becoming as crowded as the other schools. Take a look at the 1st grade classrooms. Each class has about 24 kids.

Regardless of who you vote for, we must all get more involved in our children's education. Parents are the ones ultimately responsible for their children.

I totally disagree with Pinky. To me a person's political views say alot about them, so I am very glad this information was posted. I hope many people find out this information before the school board election. I will definately vote for Mr. King. Also, Pinky needs to check their facts because there are empty classrooms at Waverly while kids at North Madison are in temporary classrooms. Also, a college education does not define your intelligence. Some of the most inept people I know & some with absolutely no common sense possess college degrees.

I also am in favor of Mr. King. Another piece of information I came across which is completely non-partisan is her negotiations with the city of Anderson regarding airport expansions. As printed in the Anderson Free Press:

South Madison County residents were thrilled with the tale of the Airport Feasibility Study at an Open House on Monday. Many visitors were puzzled to learn of how the outcome of the feasibility study actually was decided.

Melanie DePoy described the high stakes, 4 way game of five-card draw.

"We, at Aerofinity, Inc., got together with Flagship and decided the best way to decide the outcome of the feasibility study was a game of poker.

I feel that the risks of our childrens education is far to important to have somebody on the board that may regard them as poker chips.

Can you please tell me where in Waverly Elementary there are empty classrooms? I have been there and every single room has a purpose and is currently in use.

I'm voting for DePoy and Davis. King and Roberson call our schools "the darn thing" on their signs around Town. The schools are not a problem, they offer solution for our children and a pathway for a better life. We need people in these positions who are thinking about ways to improve our schools and don't see them as "the darn thing"!

Some of you here might be interested in reading what Mr. Weaver, the Morgan county GOP chairman, has to say about our little school board election. Look under the blog section for today's post entitled "Non-partisan--NO SUCH THING!

In response to Pinky on Waverly. The principal at Waverly is the one who provide Bill Roberson with that number. Take it up with him on his information. Point is that coming from a Principal at Waverly and having kids in trailers at North Madison is a disgrace. If education and our children are so important to the current administration they would have solved this problem years ago with redistricting. But they didn't because it makes easier to convince people to build a school when they see things like that. Job 1 should be getting those kids out of the trailers and in a real classroom. They dropped the ball. You really want to vote for more of the same.

Agreed. The schools HAVE problems...they aren't THE problem. That is why King and Roberson are running because they want to "fix the darn thing".
The problem is with the people RUNNING the schools. In order to fix the problem you have to get rid of the the ones that are not running it correctly. Get people in there that will actually spend the money set aside for maintenance and get these facilities up to par instead of funneling the money into rainy day slush funds. Stop allowing administrators to use school owned vehicles for trips to Florida. That money could buy more computers for our students.

True Grit have you ever been to a school board meeting? Perry King has been to almost every one in the past 2 years. Mrs. Depoy has been to the last two. Now tell me who cares about the school and who just started "caring" when she filed to run for the seat.

Mrs. DePoy was hand picked by Ron Wright, Dave Davis & Randy Davis to hopefully replace Ron Wright so she could now vote with Dave (they are assuming Dave will be re-elected) & Randy and they would still have the majority vote on this 5 person board. A 5 person board with 2 of the 5 being brothers is ridiculous and needs to stop with election! Vote Bill Roberson & Perry King!

This is a letter from Bill Roberson in response to Dave Davis' flier. Please pass onto to anyone you know in Brown that hasn't voted.

Bill Roberson for School Board
Response to a misleading late flyer
The school corporation will not triple your taxes. That is not my sign. The school has been in deficit spending for each of the 8 calendar years 2002 to 2009. The school does have a declining cash balance on 1/1/10. The flyer is fuzzy math. The incumbent voted to increase debt by close to $200,000,000 and raise taxes. The school corporation can get kids out of the portables at N. Madison, save teacher jobs in the future, expand technology, and repair/improve our current facilities without raising taxes while people are hurting during the worst recession since the great depression. Property taxes were removed from the operating fund in 2009 by the legislature and governor. That is why taxes decreased in 2009. The school board did not decrease taxes, the state did, and however, your sales tax and local income tax have increased this past decade. What happens if the state does go bankrupt in 2011 and can’t provide the tax credits you see on your tax bill? The governor and legislature have done the best they can during this severe recession. Now the school corporation needs to take the budget that is over $40,000,000 and allocate it differently to save teacher jobs. That is what is best for kids. The state did reduce Mooresville School’s revenue by 4.5% in 2010. The school corporation reduced the budget by $1,000,000 in 2009. Another reduction will be made in 2011 by at least 4.5%. With the deficit spending and state reductions of recurring revenue the deficit is close to $3,000,000 and growing. The key is recurring v. nonrecurring revenue. There are ways to save teacher jobs as the loss of revenue continues. The school board has been unwilling to tell the public the problem and solutions. Both brothers do control 40% of the school board vote when they vote together which is pretty close to 100% of the time over 8 years and not just recently. I was an administrator in the Mooresville Schools for 30 years and said so in all meet the candidates’ forums. In the 1990’s the school board had a Strategic Plan to add a middle school if necessary. That was 14 years ago and much has changed. Five acres of classrooms were added in the ‘90’s (some are empty). Technology did take a huge leap forward, buildings were renovated, and land was purchased for future growth. That growth has not happened. What has the school board and superintendent done the last 8 years to keep the Strategic Plan growing and adapting. I have always said we have great schools and have achieved much. We can do even more with the tremendous teachers we have in our classrooms. We need to also listen to their needs for student success, form a plan, inform the public and get moving. Time for New Leadership!
