The officers of the P.D. are responding to the lack of leadership and the lack of consistence concerning how the department is run. This is a perfect example of the tail wagging the dog. If you're going to lead, LEAD! Don't let the young officers dictate how policy should be applied. And, why are the SWAT members allowed to be off at the same time. It shouldn't take three hours for them to respond. Oh Well, another day goes by.

Isn't it about time we expected more from our police dept. than shaved heads, sunglasses, and para-military clothes. Their language is horrible and attitudes concerning the public should be adjusted. Aren't they given psych tests before being hired? The citizens deserve better than what they are getting! Jennings should not have slapped the boy, but why was the boy allowed to get that much out of control by the parents? He wasn't tazored, he was stunned by a very short burst of voltage. Why can't we get our facts straight?

Incendiary, yes, it is about time that we expect more from our police departments than para-military clothes and sunglasses. Their language is atrocious and they are disrespectful of the public (dang near beat some of them to death). They should be given psych testing (lord knows, some of them may have anger management issues). The citizens do deserve better than this.
However, when we get to Captain Jennings and “the incident”. Jennings should not have slapped that child, you are right. However, I do not think that the child was allowed to get out of control; I think the child responds to situations he can’t handle in that manner. Without appropriate coping mechanisms and appropriate past experiences this is all he has. I also believe that the child was tasered. Tasered is defined as neuromuscular incapacitation. We are talking semantics: tasered, stunned, electrocuted.
BTW, do you know anything about the recent fires? I’m just asking.

" Tender Teddies Day Care owner Heather Lancaster said usually she was able to calm the boy, a foster child with special needs who was placed in her care, within five or 10 minutes of the start of his outbursts. On March 30, however, he was being especially aggressive because of a medication change and an upset in his routine due to his school’s spring break. "
The boy was on psyc drugs and readjusting at that.
" Lancaster said the boy’s mental capacity would not have allowed him to understand the consequences of a Taser being used against him. She said once Johnson had used the Taser, the boy stopped kicking and fighting and slumped against the house. "
This was not a brat or a child acting up this is a young 10 year old boy with an illness ( probably bi-polar) adjusting to new medications.
These guys may as well went into a nursing home and tasered old folks in wheel chairs for not walking.

"The status of Martinsville Police Department Capt. William Jennings and patrolman Darren Johnson, who were involved in an incident in which a 10-year-old boy was Tasered, was not discussed. Coffin said there was no plan to discuss their status at the meeting."
Why not, it has only been 2 months now. I sent my request to the US Justice Dept. and the FBI asking, in fact begging them to come take over this investigation. I encourage everyone who feels that this is Mayor Deckard's, Chief Davis, Roger Coffin, and the Morgan County Sheriff way of hoping by delaying this that they can sweep it under the rug to do the same.

As none of you obviously have any idea what is really going on or the details to any of the events...Let me start by saying, How can this city discriminate between officers? This is not the first offense for Capt. Jennings! And he is still aloud to work and get paid? All of his offenses happen ON DUTY. Officer Hollis was at a concert, staying at a campground across the street from the venue when he and his girlfriend were approached by hamilton county sheriff deputy. All of his alleged pending charges are misdemeanors and Capt. Jennings is facing yet ANOTHER felony battery charge! Does anyone see anything wrong with this picture. But Mayor Deckard, you will be up for re-election and that can't happen if you don't allow the public to dictate your decisions versus doing what's right!
You people are the reason Martinsville is dying on the vine and will never prosper. Fun fact: Morgan county has more people on welfare and unemployment per capita than any other county in the STATE!!! how bout that Mayor? And how about the superintendent of our schools? He was caught drinking and driving in a city vehicle! He is still working? Is this some kind of joke? This town is the epitome of white trash and everyone that does not live there has that opinion of it!

You obviously do not live here. If you are from Mooresville, you must not have much respect for your home town either, "Moortuckian" Really? Attitudes like yours are part of the problem. You have an ample amount of criticism, so by all means, please feel free to step on up to the plate and be part of the solution.
