A-FREAKIN-MEN, Tomcatt68!!!!!! But I have to wonder...are all of those things you mentioned simply a result of Martinsville's finest thinking they are so much better than what THEY ALSO consider a town full of rednecks and white trash? Seems to me they think they're so much better than the common folk, and they just do as they please! And I say it's high time the common folks take a stand and bring them all down a notch or 2 (or 3...or 10!)...back to the reality that we all live in! These are all either elected officials or government employees, but they're all people who need THE COMMON FOLKS to set higher standards for them to uphold!

Here's my prediction, Jennings is demoted and gets desk duty till retirement and or retires early.

Johnson go's through retraining and ends up back on the street.

You know, I've gone through and read (some of them just skimmed) the posts. And it makes me physically sick to think that some of you actually side with the officers on this! I know from experience that the daycare in question is not worth the paper it takes to write the story on. My kids attended that daycare for a VERY VERY short time, and I pulled them out because the owner of the daycare is mean to the kids. She hits them, she kicks them, and if she takes an instant disliking to any of them, she makes their life miserable while they're in her "care." That being said, I have to wonder how anyone can consider it to be ok for two "highly trained" ADULT police officers to 1. strike a young boy and 2. use a taser on him. As I said in an earlier post, I have a 12-year-old son who is ADHD, ODD, PTSD, and Bipolar, and I have been on the receiving end of his violent tantrums. It's typical that the child be very remorseful after such an episode, but it's also typical for such a child, during the outburst, to become extremely violent to the point of scary. I've been there, I've dealt with it...and I'm a WOMAN, and I've dealt with it ALONE, with no taser. There is absolutely NOTHING that justifies a police officer hitting a child in the face (over a cuss word? give me a break) and ESPECIALLY tasering the poor kid...special needs or not!! And for those of you who think the were 'doing their duty', I will just say, NO police officer, I don't care who it is, or where it is, or how "highly trained" they are, better EVER touch my child in a negative way over what they consider a "tantrum", and it's for darn sure they better never use a taser on him, because one way or another, I WOULD have them yanked from their position. I would sue and I would win. I have absolutely no faith in the Martinsville police department anyway, and the recent happenings just make me feel even more strongly that they're completely useless!

Don't take to much stock in Martinsville making "bad" news. Do you expect the news to report on good things???

No, I am not saying that! Suppose this child goes after another child at the daycare and is about to do something to that child! Oh! Just let him do that and slap him on the wrist! Tasering someone should be the last resort! No,I am not saying go buy a Taser! This child was out to hurt someone and Stingersbaby this child could have killed another child at the daycare and would not stop what he was doing! If this child was going after your child in a violent manner and would not stop for anything would you use therapy to stop him in that split second? No! This child is going to hurt someone down the road and sometimes therapy doesn't work on these type of people. That is why we have 2.5 million people in prison. You can go buy your Taser but that was not what I was saying! Thanks!

Stingersbaby---There is a difference between child abuse and this situation. The adults should be in control of a situation not the child. This was an example of where a child was out of control and would not stop for anything and this could have been much worse than a TASER! Just some food for thought! If Tasers were outlawed then I would be very upset but again they should be used as a last resort! If a Bipolar person was shoting at you would you use therapy to resolve the situation! Probably not! There is a fine line between child abuse and this situation! Therapeutic hold sometimes doesn't work in certain situations! This was one of those! The police had to be called for help! Everyone has their own thoughts on this situation and that is why America is such a great country.

I have a lot of police friends, And it sickens me when this topic comes up. Most of them defend the actions of the tazing but not the slapping! There reason for defending the tazing is that he didn't break any departmental rules or the taser manufacters recomendations. One of my officer friends which is really built, told me he would rather take an ass kickin from 2, 7' tall 300lb men, than take the taser again. Yet he still defends this poor excuse of a officer. My thought is it is never ok to hit a child in the face. However that being said I had a 12 yr old child tell me F U and proceded to call me a dirty M F Without thinking I poped him one. I was wrong! But sometimes people react on instinct. so I have an easier time dealing with the slapping although he should still be Punished for it. The tazing on the other hand the officer should have to be retrained on dealing with Children and how to control yourself when your adrenaline is pumping. This officer should also be placed on Probation and if anything like this ever happens again He should be Fired And Charged! How can we expect any different from our officers when our own Prosecutor, Paid for Racing strips to be placed on a State Police Car. When did Handing out speeding tickets go from being about keeping the public safe to be all about the all mighty $$$$ ??? All this being said I still do respect the Good Officers out there Trying to make a difference by protecting and serving us. And for those COPS with big egos that lv writting tickets no matter what, and those that think that there better than the general public and dont give anyone a break. God Will take care of you!

Just a couple of things stick out. You are right about dept rules and manufactures use but it is completely insane to use any advice on who to use a weapon on from it's manufacture and the stand behind that when it is misused. I'm not saying that is your thought or your friends but I would hate to think it would a manufactures advice in the use of their weapon. If a 9mm manufacture says their guns can be used to kill adult or children would you want our officers to shoot children and then say the manufacture says they were meant for that ???

Seems a jury of town folk would think that to be insane also. The city is liable for their policy. If thier policy is a detriment to the safty of the citizens then they are to be held accountable. They set the policy and they can change it.

I sure hate to think someone has to die before they use more than a manufacture instruction booklet to make community policy. That's what gets me.

The child was on mind meds and had no ability to control himself. He was a young 10 year old little boy that any man could restrain. I have raise a few of my own and will say any cop who is such a weak fat wimp that couldn't wrap his arms around a little boy while the other tapes his arms and legs has no business on any police force and for that reason alone should be fired just for being unfit for duty.

The sad thing is there are other cops out there who agree to commit the same crime. I know two real professionals who would completely disagree.
Any cop who would have done the same thing are unfit for our community. Period.

This is a sad thing for all but the most and sadest thing of all if this exsposes a completly out of shape and weak law enforment personal problem that will get people killed because they will use their wepons befiore they use the gym. Anyone who has looked at who I'm talking about knows what I mean.

We seem to have a policy to use potentially deadly ( yes hundreds have been killed by tasers ) weapons on little children but we don't have a policy for physical fitness of our police force. Thats sad MAYOR.

I admire you stingersbaby, You should be used by the police in this county for training the cops to be real men and not the sissys some act like. Just think, if these same officiers used the same acts on thier own children for doing the same thing they would be put in jail for child abuse because both type of assults are illegal to used on children.

I too have had the challenging God given responsibility to deal with Some of these chemical imbalances and one does have to keep their focus on the moment and not let their pride get the best of them. This is what love is for. Sounds like you have plenty of that. Maybe you could teach the county and charge them well for it. Bid towns hire police who have an education for the job that includes that kind of training. I guess we can't afford it here.

I agree Liberty, I think it is a shame the Mayor, his staff, and board of public works probably can't see the damage they will be doing to Martinsville. Again, I have sent complaints to the federal authorities asking them to look into the case just as they have now done in Indy and Carmel. More people that complain, the more liking this is to happen. Don't just complain here, take action if you do not agree with this.

How to put a child in a therapeutic hold.

While standing get behind the child; wrap your arms around his chest, gently pull the child close to you. Put his left wrist in your right hand, put his right wrist in your left hand, and gently pull the child’s arms tightly across his chest restricting the use of the child’s arms. Now sit down Indian style on the ground (you can also use your legs to wrap around the child’s waist). Lean forward or you could be head butted in the mouth. Stay there until the child calms down.
