City should stand by its men

| elelady Thursday, June 24, 2010: 3:17 pm More from elelady | They will not be getting involved the case is closed, as it should be. They will get some punishment from the city, but did not deserve to lose their jobs over this event. I hope someone is looking into this child being place somewhere else not with this family, now. He needs more supervised housing, like a hospital. Also, he was not a small child, at 10 years old he was 94 pounds, that is not a small child as far a size goes, that with his rage would be very hard to control. |
| Tomslick Thursday, June 24, 2010: 8:36 pm More from Tomslick | Maybe if the headlines had read "Officers use necesary force to stop violent juvenile", it might not have been such an issue. Could have saved a lot of taxpayer money and these officers could have been spared being treated like criminals. I hope the current regime running this city pay dearly out of thier own pockits and not the taxpayers. |
| Planter Thursday, June 24, 2010: 8:37 pm More from Planter | Thankfully a cooler head did prevail. Folks all too often react with the heat of emotion rather than thoughtful study. People who have first-hand experience with children with these issues clearly understand the impossible problems associated with this illness. Perhaps the state's educational systems needs to be revamped to better deal and place these children. They need to be in homes better equipped and educated to handle these situations rather than rely on the police on duty at the time. Nothing the police could have done would have been the right answer to this. Thank you for reading. |
| driver Friday, June 25, 2010: 1:35 am More from driver | Tomcatt 68 the case is closed move on to something else to talk about. If you want to you mite see if they would let you take control of this child and handle him your way and if there is trouble with him don't call the police you seem to know all the answers. |
| Liberty Friday, June 25, 2010: 9:25 am More from Liberty | People who have first-hand experience with children with these issues clearly understand the impossible problems associated with this illness This statement is not one of experience. The professionals have given the proper method of constraint on here a few times. Tasers can't be used by professionals, hit, slapping or punching are can't be used by professionals. If professional usewd either they would be in jail. That's the whole issue here, we want professionals working for our community especially if we are going to allow them to carry dangerous weapons and be around real live people and their children. We have to be able to trust them not to bully and hurt people and their children. If we have to withhold bullets from them we should just replace them with real professionals and move on. Now unless their was some secret meeting nobody knew about that let these guys off the hook the comments of " the case is closed move on " are confusing. Just because a prosecutor refused to prosecute has nothing to do with the case is closed or innocents. Prosecutor only prosecute a small percentage of crimes to begin with. Most prosecutors are lazy and will only prosecute those offenses which guarantees them a conviction. Their political future depends alot on their conviction rates. They rarely risk a loss on their record. Good for their future , bad for the victims and the community. The liberals ( criminals) in the community like the moveon.org-ers would like to see your kind be protected but a good citizen wants to see some house cleaning and improvements to our local government and police force. We owe it to our good officers who don't want to have their reputation or career tarnished by serving on a non-professionally run force. This isn't over, they have yet to have their jobs and qualifications evaluated. What good is a cop if you can't trust him with a bullet ? . |
| JULES60 Friday, June 25, 2010: 1:33 pm More from JULES60 | Liberty as I got back online yesterday & read ur comments.. I posted a comment... being from a medical background I was appalled @ many of the posts... we are not talking about malpractice here... u keep referring to professionals... our police officers do not hv medical, therapists, or psych degrees... they are trained to "protect".. if u r suggesting they have a degree then "show us the money in the budget for higher wages." "we pd a special prosecutor to research & make a determination of charges".. his conclusion no charges... case now should be closed.. U hv carried this issue to the extreme... w/all ur expertise as u r suggesting u hv ... if u r not over retirement age then apply for a post w/the city dept... when these cases occur u can handle it... u might start w/child protection & foster care services... ENOUGH SAID!! |
| Reality Check Friday, June 25, 2010: 5:52 pm More from Reality Check | Woah! There are Liberals/criminals in Martinsville? Just when I think you might have one brain cell of common sense you set me straight Liberty. By the way, last I checked, no one was using bullets here. How do you antiquate this story with partisan BS? EVERY elected official in this county is Republican. So, you might want to note that next time you say something this assinine, again. |
| jimbob Monday, June 28, 2010: 5:22 pm More from jimbob | so wat happen to these guys i hope they r not back on the street wat happen at that there executive seccion |
| JULES60 Tuesday, June 29, 2010: 1:43 pm More from JULES60 | Well jimbob... I just read Channel 6 news & Mayor Deckard spoke to them... says "top brass" wants Jennings off force or retire; want to suspend Johnson for 30 days w/o pay & probation for 1 yr. no executive session has been held yet the mayor again speaks w/media... u obviously hv not kept updated w/this matter... both these officers did what had to be done @ the moment ... the grand jury & special prosecutor found no charges to be filed... case should be closed... obviously some hv an axe to grind w/Jennings, the police chief & mayor are not standing by their men ... daycare is closed for obvious reasons, the child is OK, the ones that should be judged are all OK... these officers taking the blunt force of politics & damage control by others... the mayor so quick to judge yet he has been given 2nd chance... he has faced fierce public judgment in his past ... he has been allowed to move on... he needs to let his officers do the same... I agree w/the letter writer we all need to pray for this community... |
| Liberty Tuesday, June 29, 2010: 9:34 pm More from Liberty | "top brass" wants Jennings off force or retire Top Brass in the police department has had many bad unprofessional problems with Jennings over the years. This is brought up on the treat and with other officers every time Jennings name is brought up. They have wanted him off the force for sometime. Daycare still open. Nobody knows what happened with the Grand Jury, by law thats secret. The prosecutor decided he wasn't going to prosecute and that settles the criminal part. Job worthiness is still being decided and it appears by these leaks the right thing will probably be done. The child's status and extended mental and emotional damage have yet to be evaluated. It's understandable the officers friends and families are biased for their own and just wants them to get by with anything but the officers boss ( taxpayers) have to be responsible for the community's safety sake. We need professionally trained police officers who are trained to deal with all situations and different ages, mental handicaps so not all citizens who comes into contact with our police are treated like a terrorist. Opp'S... I forgot, it's against the law to tase a citizen of gitmo....oh well.... The Martinsville Police department and the good officers who serve are untitled to a better and cleaner force. |
