Schools haven't cut anything but teachers, which was the ONLY item on the "suggestions" from Bennett and Daniels agenda. They know full well that the powers that be will cut teachers and programs well before building, admin, or sports programs. As long as tweedle-dee and tweedle dum are in office, expect more and more of this kind of idiocracy. Wait, gasp, oh my....wasn't Mitch the OMB director for Washington????? Yes, he was. This was how he ran that office too. This is the same guy who thought the war in Iraq would only cost a couple billion. Hey Republicans, how come you don't know anything? Budgets? Money? Projects? How come it's always, we don't know? And then catastrophe?

I have a question about school budgets. How is it that Martinsville is turning heat down and air conditioning up and making class sizes bigger to conserve money, but that we have money to refinish the high school gym floor and repave the high school parking lot? I'm thinking our priorities are a little out of whack.

I have read and I have heard about money saving cuts and money saving ideas for our Schools. I've been hearing where the powers to be are contemplating the idea to not teach cursive writing in our Schools anymore…... it’s been suggested; they are just going to teach the children how to write their name in cursive only so they can sign legal documents……. Good Lord
Cutting teachers,…… in Indy they have cut bus routes and last night they are thinking about CHARGING a fee to ride the bus to school…….. removing programs, spending TONS of money on non-educational projects and programs. I love sports and I believe they are a very important tool in character building and In teaching a child he can do what he thought he couldn’t do as an individual or in a team setting. But the money spent on it is out of control. Can you imagine the revenue spent on these sports (yeah I know parents do fund raisers too, been there done that, why can’t we do that for…lets say…books or meals for the truly needy child) stop building stadiums for High School sports, or maybe keep an old scoreboard or natural grass instead of turf…..the money not wasted…..we could have a child driven safely to school in a bus.
We have to quit dummying our future generation up.

The education of our Nation of our Nation should only be second to the National Defense of our Country. WISE up Daniels and Bennett, I don’t want my grandchildren to be as dumb as you guys are about this.
Just had to throw my two cents in….

Dear parents,

I have to say that giving money to the government school system and the unions who control it have been proven a detriment on our nations children. You have no future to look than opening your front door.

Unfortunately our nations education is one run buy politicians which means it is completely impossible to ever have any resemblance of anything someone would turn their children over to. The proof is in the pudding and it's not FDA approved for eating. Money has nothing to do with it at all. In fact the use of money is what makes it an impossible feat.

All around the nation sexualization ( molestation) and the homosexual agendas are being pushed on all children from kindergarten up. a win for planned parenthood that makes billions from the resulting abortions ( Baby killing by live and conscious dismemberment). Follow the next link.

Folks it may sound good and PC to say give more money to the schools but I've come to this conclusion. In my years of studying the problems and there cause of our fail politician / union run educational model that has destroyed a couple of generations of our people that this nation would be far better off in the long run to completely withdraw any public funding for the politician / union run schools. This will through it into a forced shift of responsibility for the educational needs of this nations children from the politicians and unions to the parents.

This shift of responsibility for their children's education would force private education companies to spring-up and fill the void. The market would do the rest. All educational revenue generating sources would have to cease. The cost of a market based system would be far less (~ 1/3 - 1/2 the cost) than a government system and less costly to the taxpayers. The quality would increase drastically. This is no different that when they threw others off another welfare program in the 90's. It seemed like chaos for a while but then things will really improved. This has been proven every time over the last 150 years when slaves escape the liberals plantations. I know they are trying to buy and bring them back to the plantations now but we know that if we don't free the children we all lose. And we're almost there.

We have no choice but to shut it down. That is unless you want to stand by and what your child molested.

Well somebody have the guts to stand-up for a child or is this twilight zone.

A socialist will try to convince you that you can't do it without them.

Here they come now.

Liberty - you may be right in that politicans are ruining education (and many other items, too). But you're shortsided in your comments on public schools. Public schools have served this country quite well. Your premise that home school and private religious based schools would be cheaper couldn't be more untrue. There is no doubt that students who are home schooled do well - in many cases (but not all) much better than peers in public schools. I have no problems with parents who can do this and actually applaud those that do. I also support religious schools and think that the Tabernacle school in Martinsville does a great job. BUT FOR THE MASSES - all students, not just those fortunate few who can afford it, public schools have served America. Teachers are put through the ringer today - from college courses, to constant re-licensing to all of the naysayers (like yourself) and ALL THE POLITICS of education. In my short tenure, we have changed schedules, policies, testing, etc. etc. etc. From 2001, to 2010, the licensing in this state has changed 4 times. I'm not sure brain surgeons have had to go through so much. I will meet you half way and say that the politics of public schools has caused many problems - but it's not just the union and it's not just the Democratic party. BOTH parties at the national level have dropped the ball. To proclaim all children are going to pass all state testing at 100% by 2014 is assinine and arrogant and dangerous. THe media constnatly portrays public schools as bastions of sexual predators and gangs and poor test scores. WHAT YOU DON"T SEE is thousands of kids who come from nothing getting a shot at making it in America. Those who actually work - achieve - and have parental support- who take advantage of great schools and those teachers who are there to do this. ONe study that is always forgotten is 100% of kids succeed when the teacher is one that makes a difference. Are there bad teachers? YES. Are there bad students and bad parents? Yes. WE have to find a way to make kids understand how important education is in the 21st Century. All the other BS needs to stop. The politics need to stop. The problem is, it will not. And people like you will continue to believe what they believe no matter who tries to shed some light on your "quest" to destroy public schools and teachers.

Hey RC, I found this while archiving and must have missed it in my absence.
I think this is a great post and must say we may be more in agreement than we let ourselves believe.

At the end of your post you said this :
Yes. WE have to find a way to make kids understand how important education is in the 21st Century. All the other BS needs to stop. The politics need to stop. The problem is, it will not.

I realized that we are in agreement. Now you understand what I'm doing. Politics mean government. And the only politics involved in education are the the government and unions. Once we remove both you can then be free to educate academics to the children. You said in a defeated sounding line,
" The politics need to stop. The problem is, it will not."

Thats were Charter schools come in. Yes when they are given GEC bread children to teach the scores are about the same but the two things you blame most are eliminated and that what makes the difference. No more union or government politics or their political influence on the minds of our young. I think we should team up on this effort. :)

Just in case anybody is remotely interested, government isn't in the schools, school districts are considered units of government. They are government.

The best reason I've heard yet for keeping your children away from them.

I'm glad there are choices. Not everyone can either home school their children or pay the private tuitions.
