WOW Human society doesn't seem to be acting very human in the way it deals with the county residence and their animals. Killing the lady's dog Stubbs without due process sound criminal.

Sometime power go's to the head of those who's intrusted with it.

Why did Mrs Cole confiscate the animals and then kill Stubb's Loretta Pitman's pet without a Judge ruling on the matter ? Only seems right. Hate to have her run the child protection services.

Sounds like Loretta Pitman's rights have been violated. This is what happens when those who can't handle power reacts before all the facts have been agreed upon.

Judges usually don't deliberate on euthanizing dogs, Liberty. Besides, if you read the story, Stubbs attacked a woman causing her to have 50 staples. Sounds like a pretty aggressive dog to me. Humane societies are allowed to euthanize dangerous dogs: sounds like they got it right to me. What about the woman who was attacked? A dangerous dog owners rights trumps hers?

I have to agree with Trix on this one. Not only were those dogs aggressive, but they also evidently weren't restrained, either by being inside a fence or by being chained up. I'm sorry but people should be able to walk down the road without having to worry about whether or not they are going to be attacked. If it were a child that was attacked, what would you say then? I'm betting you would probably say put everyone of them down for what they did to the child. A grown woman is no different. The owner should have had them restrained in some way. And the cost of keeping animals at a shelter does add up, because they have to feed them, care for them, clean up after them, etc. I can't say that I blame them for already putting one down. I am meaning no offense to you Liberty, just trying to get you to look at things from all angles. :)

Trix R for Kids, stingersbaby,

Your points are valid and I'm sure just about all will agree with you but I just think that more than just a contract worker should be required before killing someones pet. An violent attack must have been investigated but the Sheriff's Dept.

I know how good pets can get when they congregate with other dogs. I also know that we had a large dog who became protective of his marking spots as he aged. In the horror and confusion of the moment someone can make mistakes. Just because a dog gets caught up in a pack doesn't mean he (or she)has it in them to bite and if mis-identified ?

Because ones pet can be like a family member to them having a Judge signing off on killing it seemed in order to me. I just don't feel a county contract employee opinion should be enough.

I guess I just can't get the picture of Toto's face looking outside the back of that basket out of my mind. He was accused of the same thing and if Dorthy didn't stand-up for him they never would have been able to make such a great movie or.....well you get the jest I hope.

I love my animals, but if they were involved in attacking a person, they would have to be put down. The lady who was attacked was lucky those dogs didn't kill her. Liberty, I think you have quite the flair for the dramatic...puhleeze. Toto from The Wizard of Oz? If this was one of your family members, I'm sure you would be the first to put the animal down. Once a dog attacks, you can't ever trust it again!

Liberty,
It is a dog. A pet. I could see the need for investigation if it was a working dog with some value but it was just someones vicious little fancy. Don't petition to keep it alive if you aren't willing to pay for it. I would hate for people to have to pay their own way. Or could you imagine, be responsible for their actions. That "pet" should have been killed a long time ago.

Wait, I'm was just saying the decision to kill someones pet should be made by the right person with proper investigation. I wasn't saying that this dog should not be put to sleep if guilty. The article says " Alleged" so I just assume some appropriate body would have to investigated and made that decision. Everyone just ASSUMED this had to be the dog. Yes, if my wife was attacked and ID'ed the dog it wouldn't be breathing and my prayers go out to the lady who was attacked. Due process was all I was writing about.

The ToTo thing may have been a bit dramatic. Accused of bitting someone and was taken of to be put to sleep. Rescued by Dorthy who risked her life by running away some where over the rainbow...waaaay uuup.. high.........there's a......place, that I heard of...once.. in a luuullaby......

OK I give up :)

There's no place like home...There's no place like home...There's no place like home...There's no place like home...

Liberty, you're not in Kansas any more. The courts are full of frivolous cases now. I don't want my taxes to pay for a judge's time to hear dog and cat cases too. This whole episode is very unfortunate. However, in a recent article posted in the Report, I read that even Mrs. Pittman did not object to Stubbs being put down. I think due process was served.

I'm beginning to like what I'm reading from Reality Check. Liberty, I think you are overmatched.

Jane, I was thinking the exact same thing
I want to know if the victim is going to sue this woman for damages. I'll bet that costs her a lot more than what the humane society is asking for.

No, we can't be having anything like THAT.
