Crazy question: Did the RT call and verify the origin of the letter BEFORE the story went to press??

Cerberus: The story on Saturday was written because action had already been taken on the letter by the Brown Township trustee, who received the letter independently of us. The story was about that action more than it was about the letter. The reporter did make attempts to contact Dora Brown, but she did not get back with us until after our deadline.

So instead of doing the right thing and not printing a story with an unverified source, the story was sent to press with the name included. Couldn't the story have been printed without mentioning the source of the letter since the story was "more about the action than is was about the letter."

Using the mail system in the act of a crime ( identity theft )is mail fraud. Contact the Postal Inspector and they will get to the bottom of it. Just ask someone at the post office.

They probably didn't think they needed to verify it. The CCGT has been well known to stick their noses where they don't belong i.e. Brown Twp and Madison Twp. It's not too far fetched of an idea for them to be behind this letter. Even beyond that it was a NON-NEWS event that shouldn't have even made the paper. It occurred nearly two months ago and had already been handled in-house!!!!
