Property owners fed up with ATV riders

Sink 1/2 inch treated plywood with x-long roofing in the creek bed and around your trails with the nail side sticking up. Keep in mind their location as not to step on them while walking. After some expensive flat tires your trespassers will find someone else to show their disrespect. This isn't be revengeful or doing harm to others but just putting up security on your property. Any damage done is purley self-inflicted and the self-inflicted and is also self-corrected. Be sure to post " Danger - No Trespassing " signs on the outskirts of your property first. . . |

| Liberty Sunday, November 14, 2010: 12:25 pm More from Liberty | If I could type as fast as I think ( which is pretty slow) that would have read " x-long roofing NAILS " as some may have surmised. |

Not so funny thing about parents, they sometimes, when confronted by authority, teach their children disrespect for others just to look kool and tough in front of them while all along their children are looking up to them to learn how to react to another adults authority. Some parents are more kool than others. . |
| Lassiter Sunday, November 14, 2010: 2:01 pm More from Lassiter | Liberdood- That works. Another option, one time years ago I was building a high tensile fence. I only had 1 strand up about 18 inches off the ground. A teenager blew through the field full speed on a 4 wheeler. When the 4 wheeler contacted the wire, it was catepulted backwards. In the meantime the rider kept going forwards another 50 feet without his vehicle. He never tried to cross my property again. |
| gr8day Sunday, November 14, 2010: 3:49 pm More from gr8day | The nail thing isn't a good idea simply for the health and safety of wildlife who venture to the creek bed. The deer don't have anything to do with ATVs. Also, intentionally causing physical harm to the riders might result in a lawsuit. No Trespassing signs should be sufficient. |
| Lassiter Sunday, November 14, 2010: 4:18 pm More from Lassiter | Graday Building a fence on your own propery is perfectly legal and somebody cannot sue you for hurting themselves on it while trespassing. Thats kind of like a drunk driver suing you after he drives into your house for building your house where he intended to drive. Property owner do have rights. BTW, I agree that nails are problematic but fences are not. |
| Lassiter Sunday, November 14, 2010: 4:23 pm More from Lassiter | Oh, and BTW last several times I put up trespassing signs they were vandalized by the trespassers. I then had to confront them and force them to leave LIke the people in the story are doing. All signs will do is waste your money. |
| Greg Monday, November 15, 2010: 7:22 am More from Greg | I hate to disagree with you, Lassiter, but you CAN be sued for virtually anything - even on your own property. If negiligence (like it took you 15 yrs to put up more than one strand or it went across an obvious trail) or intent to harm (again, across an obvious trail) can be proven, you'd very likely be found liable. Even if you ultimately won it, there is still expense and time involved. Private property rights have been eroding steadily for a long time. |
| Lassiter Monday, November 15, 2010: 10:20 am More from Lassiter | Greg- That is what counter-suits are for. Many fences are single strand. Especially electric. Also if it is on my property then it is my path I'm fencing across. The trespasser is still the lawbreaker. |
