Isn't there anybody else in all of Martintucky that wants to step up and be mayor? Same old names, same old faces. How 'bout some new young blood with an idealistic attitude and fresh ideas. Anyone?

Let us all remember the Chrysler Building that Buskirk said wouldn't work for what the city needed, but some how wound up purchasing it. Let's remember the ambulance committee where he screwed over our good, local qualified EMS personnel. Let's not forget hiring his wife at the water company, let's not forget th Taj Mahal fire station Buskirk bought with our tax dollars, Shall I continue? Is this what we want more of?

Good luck, Mayor Deckard. Cannot believe Mr. Buskirk actually believes he has a chance. Mayor Deckard will , once more, be the gentleman campaigner and, Buskirk will, once again, pull out every ugly nasty negative campaign theme he can make up. Why would he do this to himself, his family, and what few supporters he may have? I am truly amazed by this.

There is but, it is hard to get ahead politically in this town unless you have a relative in office or the right last name. I've said it before but it is due to the passive, resistant to change voters. I will break it down for you. We haven't had a democrat mayor in this predominantly republican town since fogleman. Not knocking any party. People go to the poles in the primary with two last names to choose from. Pick your poison. Any viable great candidate that is new and wants to step up to the plate would be looked upon as "Who are you?" Rather then then the thought of... wow this guy makes sense he might actually bring about good things we need! He has ambition and wants real change. Martinsville hasn't seen Real change and progress in years, and I think a lot of citizens have it in there minds that its the norm.

So where does that leave us? Ah Doug Arthur who isn't running for mayor this time around according to himself. He doesn't have any relatives in office that i know of. He was a city councilman for eight years, got to know the alert people of this town with his "People first Party second" personality. That whet a long way in earning the respect of a lot of citizens. So he earned himself a good reputation politically. He is a reserve police officer that has never had his name in the paper for abusing his power. I think he stands the best chance of beating Buskirk or Deckard because he knows the city well, and what it needs. I think he will prove that with his next 4 years in office as City Councilman.

The local GOP proved it's ignorance and folly with the last caucus by voting in Kivett. I was glad Mr. Arthur threw his name in the hat so it would be shown to the people of Martinsville what the Good Ole Boys club was like!!

I'm not holding my breath on this election. In 2015 when Mayor Arthur gets elected and things start to change, people will appreciate it and break free from the trance that is Martinsville Politics.
