| MHS.1927 Wednesday, January 26, 2011: 4:27 pm More from MHS.1927 | Let me preface by saying I think Mr. Buskirk is an honorable man who does love Martinsville. But like so many of our past leaders, he simply does not get it. Our fair city has been in a gradual state of decline for many, many years. Mr. Buskirk's lack of interest in annexing the city boundaries for future economic growth is a perfect example. While Mayor Buskirk was busy pinching pennies and buying salvage equipment, he neglected the white elephant in city hall. Martinsville’s attitude & efforts towards attracting new industry/jobs to our area has been passive at best. While other communities were planning and implementing long term strategies, Martinsville sat back and expected potential employers to come to us. And if one did approach, we complained that they ask for too many tax breaks or incentives. For too long city leaders complained that the Morgan County Economic Development Office was not doing enough to help Martinsville, yet the city would never take the steps to give the EDC office the tools it needs to ‘market’ Martinsville or even get us on the same playing field as other doughnut communities. Martinsville has finally made some positive steps by creating a redevelopment commission and a plan to annex some areas that definitely have economic development potential. We need to continue this ‘active’ long term planning and thinking in order to allow Martinsville to grow and attract new large scale employers. We need to embrace our potential, and NOT be afraid to change. I support whichever candidate understands this. |

| Arse Wednesday, January 26, 2011: 5:25 pm More from Arse | "The Square, that’s Martinsville. It’s a special place.”This attitude, Mr. Buskirk, is what keeps this city down. Please, try expanding your mind. |
| Give Me A Break Wednesday, January 26, 2011: 6:20 pm More from Give Me A Break | Love of the City or hate and disdain for the man who elevated him to a position that he (Buskirk) then used to try and destroy his boss. I was hopeful it wouldn't come to this but challenge every voter who dislikes ugly negative campaigns to watch and see who gets ugly, who starts nasty rumors and who can't run on their record. |

| Sunny Thursday, January 27, 2011: 6:47 am More from Sunny | Hmmm... Well, nice speech Mr. Buskirk. A couple of things here on this one. The field that the city acquired for the well tanks was done so by Eminent Domain! Then after the money and the rates were set, I believe a good portion of the money our former esteemed Mayor lobbied for was used for another project...of course...was it one or two council members that voted no? Ahh...the fire department. No one will argue that we needed a new one. There were other options on the table. Where is the so called "Training Room"?? Last time I took a tour through there I only recall seeing a conference room. Now, this man is reluctant to annex part of Washington Township for city expansion? A lot of access to our water system is already out there. There has already been discussion about the need for sewer if most of the residences already have septic tanks. What about Police and Fire he may ask? We are talking about two miles here... We already have a system of mutual aid. The sheriff's department, and other fire departments are more then welcome! No, not lets not bring industry to Martinsville Mr. Buskirk, we don't need a bigger tax base, and the citizenry doesn't deserve access to better jobs locally!! :D This man needs to be in office like the city needs another flood! |
