| pitdaddy Thursday, January 27, 2011: 11:30 am More from pitdaddy | Wow! Well I was against this at first but now that you tell me they're going to put an M on the jr football league helments and add Martinsville to the front of each team name that makes it worth every penny! |
| Just observing Thursday, January 27, 2011: 11:38 am More from Just observing | Pitdaddy I can only assume your comments mean you havent ventured off your couch in years or participated in youth sports in any way. Your simply worried food source is in danger. I assure you its not. Please try and be proactive in the community this year and go volunteer at a youth event or high school level rather than trying to be a hero on the forum here, it's not working as your ignorance shines! |
| Liberty Thursday, January 27, 2011: 11:38 am More from Liberty | This my friends is one of the best explanations of what REAL education is. Much better than I could ever have written. Click Here for : What is Unschooling? . |
| Blessed Thursday, January 27, 2011: 12:07 pm More from Blessed | Would Mr. Smith feel better if this was something purchased for the wrestling room???? we all know where his interest really lies. Not with football, not with the band, not with the drum line, etc. This is all a know fact....Looks like this is going to be a rough year for the school board to agree on anything,...... |
| mcbacker Thursday, January 27, 2011: 12:21 pm More from mcbacker | Wow...Mr. Smith way to make sure you let everyone know that you didn't want it and that a new board member voted the other way. Thank goodness for that and hopefully we keep improving our facilities and moving ahead. With all the past disasters that Martinsville has endured it is nice to have something to be proud of and for the kids to enjoy! |
| sillyoldman Thursday, January 27, 2011: 12:27 pm More from sillyoldman | Even if use of the capital projects fund is limited in scope, the School Board is telling me that they cannot find another capital project more worthy than turf???? So our kids won't have to play in the mud. How will that prepare them to deal with away fields that are real grass/dirt? Sad to think there are college degrees sitting on this boards/school administration. Stupidity is free. I shouldn't be required to pay for it as a taxpayer. |
| Liberty Thursday, January 27, 2011: 12:37 pm More from Liberty | Folks, This turf thing and all school sports programs are only their as a distraction so the parents keep their nose out of the education of their child.Like a robber that throws a piece of meet to the guard dogs so they can rob their house. Look at what is going on, the education systems have collapsed and are plummeting and everyone is happy to support the system that failed their child but, "just don't mess with the sports". Do you know how stupid and un-loving that looks like. The system has consumed you and you don't even know it. They have just tossed you some more meat " Starting next season, all the junior league players will have M’s on their helmets, and teams will put “Martinsville” before their names" and Furniss said " the new field will impact students from every school in the district" and you are already chewing on it like starving coyotes. I have to remind myself from time to time the parent who are more interested in sports than thier childrens education are the same ones who will allow the system to sexualize and molest the minds of their children. Just don't mess with the sports. This should nevr have come up as an topic. The super, who's system completely fails a large percentage of children each year should only be focused on the children's education and all the resources of the system should only be concentrated on that. Come on people, what about your children's education Gods put you in charge of, huh ? |
| mcbacker Thursday, January 27, 2011: 12:56 pm More from mcbacker | Sillyoldman have you been to any away football games lately? Every team in our conference except for Mooresville (which can't even seem to keep their lights on during a game) have turf . . . not to mention other schools that we play that are not in our conference. Step outside the city limits and look around . . . |
| Cerberus Thursday, January 27, 2011: 1:00 pm More from Cerberus | If the district had not taken out the most recent bond issue, as reported in the RT a couple of weeks ago, would the tax rate have decreased rather than remaining level? Full disclosure of the projects funding sources would be nice to see here in the RT so people can form an educated thought. |
| pitdaddy Thursday, January 27, 2011: 1:04 pm More from pitdaddy | Just Observing, First of all I am very active in the community and all of my children played in the program and we coached for years. I think the program is great! I didn't say I was against the turf on the field. I guess you just assumed that as I don't believe I mentioned that one way or another. Maybe I should have explained myself better for those who like to read what they want into things. I just thought saying that they would now be able to put the M on the helments and Martinsville in front of the team name wasn't an added value to the proposed issue as it could have and in my opinion should have been done long ago. I have great respect for these programs and for those who spend their time working with our youth. I can actually see both sides of the argument. |
