| Conservative Thursday, January 27, 2011: 3:53 pm More from Conservative | Spending $750,000 on a football field is a waste of taxpayer money. Don't be confused when they say it will come from this fund or that fund. It all comes from taxes. |
| mcbacker Thursday, January 27, 2011: 4:28 pm More from mcbacker | Love the inflatable dome idea! Now why didn't I think of that. |
| jdigger Friday, January 28, 2011: 2:35 am More from jdigger | I really think this is the most crazy thing I ever heard of to spend 750,000 dollar to play a game. I guess if you get you money from tax dollars then it is mana from heaven. We are talking about laying off teachers and cutting in other school areas. This really makes me sick to my stomach. What kind of fools have we put in office. At least Mr Smith knows what it is like to have to earn money. For those who feel it is their duty to blled the tax payer dry. | Tell Me More Friday, January 28, 2011: 9:51 am More from Tell Me More | I believe the money could be used more toward education. As a parent with students in the school system I believe every child should receive text books. There are a few students in an East Middle School English class that do not have a text book for this class and instead receive copied pages from the book while the other students have books. Also many High School students come home with 20+/- pounds in their backpacks everyday (of school books) to do homework, why not purchase i-pads or laptops so they can have all of their books on it? I am sure the band department would love to be supported as well. This county and country for that matter focus too much on sports. I believe putting the turf on the football field is bad timing from an economic stand point. The board needs to go into these schools and into the classrooms and take a look around at what is going on. |
| Parent Friday, January 28, 2011: 9:54 am More from Parent | Well Said TELL ME MORE....so true. They need to sit down and talk with the staffs at the schools instead of taking word of mouth from principals etc. |
| mcbacker Friday, January 28, 2011: 11:22 am More from mcbacker | Tell me More and Parent; I know for a fact that school board members visit the schools not just at extra curricular activities but during school hours and get feedback from teachers. Have you inquired as to why some students don't actually have school books? I'd be interested in that response. In my opinion, I believe that sports are not the only focus of the school board but for some reason it garners all the attention. Have you actually attended a school board meeting or just read about it in the newspaper? Maybe you should talk to a school board member and give them your input. I sure have. |
| jdigger Friday, January 28, 2011: 8:38 pm More from jdigger | yes I attended school board meeting and was threatened with being arrested if I ask a question they did not like by Mr Harden |
| parent no.2 Friday, February 4, 2011: 11:22 am More from parent no.2 | This is just insane! why new turf? I could see something new for the team if the highschool team won a STATE CHAMPIONSHIP? but 750,000.00 WOW! how bout some new textbooks how about helping some of the other sports teams out with uniforms or traveling expenses or helping out with what is NEEDED ! this is terrible and once again pure politics in the school system, thank goodness theres a few on the board that agree with not allowing it! but once again in Martinsville and its all about who you are and who you know! What a shame ive been to those meetings and if you speak out you are threatened to sit down and be quiet, they dont care about the input of the parents! Craziness! thank goodness my child will graduate this year and Ill be done with the school system ! |
