Christmas parties a little pricey?
read more recent story comments Reader comments| Pastor Thursday, February 10, 2011: 7:12 am More from Pastor | Miss Johnson, if you spent as much time studying the issues you complain about instead of rushing to write about them perhaps you'd have a better understanding. I have known Mr. Hornaday for a number of years and find him to be an honest and fair individual. Also, as stated this was a procedure Brown Twp. had conducted for a number of years even prior to Mr. Hornaday's administration. The State Board of Accounts say's that funds may be dispersed to aide in improving the function of the township and it's departments. Can you honestly say that these dinners failed to aide in the function of this fire department? These are people who place their lives on the line for our sake. May I encourage you to seek further interpretation before jumping to your computer. I would also offer kudos to Mr. Hornaday and his Admin. Assistant for the issues they straightened out which could have costed the township greatly from their previous administration had they not taken their time and talents to save us, their tax payers the money. SHAME ON YOU MRS. JOHNSON!! |
| Hugh Jorgan Friday, February 11, 2011: 12:06 am More from Hugh Jorgan | Great!! A slumlord griping about property taxes. If they are that high...raise the rent. Situation solved. |
| Uncle Joe Friday, February 11, 2011: 12:11 am More from Uncle Joe | Kudos to the editor for actually taking the time and effort to get a statement from Mr Hornaday...and then printing it. Even though this is all a part of responsible journalism I was pleasantly surprised that it happened. It seems to go against their daily tirade of abolishing twp govt, so that is the reason for my surprise. |
| Lassiter Friday, February 11, 2011: 12:18 am More from Lassiter | Problem already solved. No more taxpayer funded parties. From what I've heard there will also be no more driving fire equipment to eat every day. Slumlords??? I don't think so. |
| Liberty Friday, February 11, 2011: 12:20 am More from Liberty | Why is it that people usually only do good things like this with other people money but when they have to use their own money they won't.“I don’t regret a dime of the money that was spent on these people,” But since we were asked not to continue this practice, which has been in effect since the 1970s, we didn’t do it last year.”What? Hummm... these people are not so important when it comes to using their own money. Humm.... |
| nobodyimportant Friday, February 11, 2011: 8:49 am More from nobodyimportant | Poor judgement, doing "the way we have done it since 1970". Putting a spin on the parties as "appreciation events" is disingenuous. I have been a part of several appreciation dinners, recognition banquets, and events like that conducted by charitable not-for-protit organizations. Rarely is there a cost, and if there is, not much, to the organization. Appreciative supporters, local area businesses, and thankful recipients of services rally to raise the funds for the event. Another reason to do what needs to be done and make our local government more efficient and cost effective. Our county is not so large and complicated that removing this obsolete layer will put government out of touch with our citizens. Perhaps reorganizing local government may also have a positive ripple effect. Too often I hear the question, "what organization or unit of government is responsiple for....(fill in the blank)...?" It has always been a puzzle to me where to suggest someone go for temporary financial assistance with utilities, rent, etc. People get bounced around like a ping pong ball trying to locate the help, hearing at most places, "that's not our job." Maybe some consolidation will bring about clarity and narrow the entryway to services. It will probably also help out with the abusers of the helping resources. I was recently told of a family that used multiple family members to take advantage of the multiple Thanksgiving and Christmas charity opportunities, grinning all the while saying "we cleaned up!" I digress. Township government needs to be thanked and put out to pasture. |
