Personally, I think this is a terrible idea. I live on one the streets that the race will be held. I assume there will be spectators sitting or standing in my yard, leaving their trash. What happens if one of the drivers lose control and run into people in my yard? Am I responsible? Is anyone talking insurance for the event? Has anyone thought of how homeowners will be able to drive their vehicles as needed during this event if the streets are blocked?

I'm sure if you took your issues to the council they would be more than willing to address them. I'm sure you are not the only one with concerns such as these. Please let us know what you find out.

I think this is a fun and great idea! I would even go to it if they were having it on a dirt track at the fairgrounds. I think it adds a little uniqueness being downtown. There certainly are a lot of questions and concerns, but I would compare it to the Fall foliage festival and parade. We will see how it does the first year, and if things go good, then I hope we will have it annually. Martinsville could use some more different ideas like this.

Entertaining and profitable for the city all in one.

I spoke with a member of city council regarding the insurance issue this morning and I was told that it would be a fully insured event much like the other activities that occur in Martinsville. From what I was told, special events (FFF, 4th of July, etc) must have their own insurance as part the agreement with the city to hold the event.
