Pascal de Caprariis,

That is the most non-nonsensical letter I've seen of late. You show no understanding of anything covered. Mr Bruce provided factual and educated analysis and you can't even dispute them but you can only say a rah, rah, popular union chant and just defend the mess Mr Bruce points out.

Folks, this is the best piece to illustrate it's not a debate about what works or whats good or bad. The statistics and numbers are in ink. It's a debate about keeping or not keeping "bad" just to sustain the union control and their political financial base or not, even at the sure detriment of the communities children. And in my opinion you should never debate with low level's like that.

The proof is in the pudding. Read both sides and you'll find this summary:

One side wants to improve education for children and give parents the power to pick and choose whats best for their children.

The other side has nothing to say about how they can improve what they are now failing at so they just redefine "bad" as acceptable and fight, protest and strike the government to retain BAD and their political union stronghold on the family.

The game is over. The parents and community is wise. The socialist union that has the system in a neck lock is may be going down kicking, but they are going down.

There are just a few non-union teachers in the government system and I honor their moral stance and commitment to teaching. They are the only ones who can be trusted to be around children and will always have a teaching job.

Peace :)

@Liberty What specifically would be your solution to our educational woes? Please provide a detailed and complete summary of what you would do differently if a wand could be waved. To be frank, I am having a hard time putting all of your pieces into one puzzle. I genuinely would like to know your solution to "restore" education. If you do not wish to post your plan you can email it to me at cerberus46151@gmail.com

Thanks!

Trix-R-for kids,

I can give you four names that Liberty is refering to. No, they are not local. However, they have an extreme impact on what our kids are being taught. they are all very liberal in their views and they push for a collective society.

Renate Caine--NEA

Geoffrey--NEA

Alfred Kinsey--Kinsey Institute @ I.U.

Arne Duncan--Secretary of Education

The first two have a major influence as to what the three main publishers of text books put in those books. Including wrong facts on history and culture.

McGraw-Hill publishing, yes they own chanel 6 in Indy, is one of the largest publishers and have been critcized by both the left and right for factual errors in the text books they publish.

The first two also have a strong influence on HOW new teachers are educated and how they are to teach our kids.

Here is a comprehensive reform for public schools in the united states.

Give all local school districts an period of time to hire independent private education companies to bid on the education contracts for each school district. The education companies are required to provide and maintain their own facilities and are paid paid by the district on a bracketed scale according to achievements. In the beginning they will receive a 5 year grace period to absorb the social and educational issues experienced by past government school student entering their program.
All local school district must offer the education contract winner first rights to buy their current assets in buildings and grounds and equipment if the new ed company wishes to buy them.

No more and no less than two companies can hold contracts within the same district. This maintains competition and stability of the system.

All tax moneys paid now that are for education will be returned to the payers in form of education credits that can be applied at the school of their CHOICE.

All schools must meet the states minimum (academic only) standards of education or lose their contracts with the districts. The education companies are free to hire teachers that meet their criteria in order to meet the school goals of achievement and that must include a profit sharing element for all employees of the system.

If a teacher wants a union to represent them and bargain for their wage they can do so on an individual basis only as our constitution allows, but not collectively. The right of all education companies to hire and fire the paid educators cannot be interfered with by government.

No education company can be restricted from hiring or firing any employee that doesn't meet their criteria that only they can determine. Since the school profits or not they must set their own employments standards. Again profit sharing must be an element in all teachers pay packages. Because of this teachers also have the choice to seek work at the schools they prefer to work at the most or has the best compensation packages ( salary/profit-sharing/retirement/etc).

A high-school level elective class on homeschooling techniques must be offered but not required in all 9-12 grade under the new education options requirements.

Elected local school boards only have the power to decide and "lett" state designed contracts without alterations. The have no power of operations or taxation and thus will be reduced to a meet as required basis to review the progress and confirm state standards and contract payments.

That's it. Everyone can now argue about this and I'm sure they will. This system requires personal responsibility in choosing the means of education for your child. Since your child's success is directly connected to the schools and teachers compensation everyone wins or everyone loses. Under the current system only the children have lost. And that old system is not acceptable.

Addendum to the above plan.

Left out acceptance clause.

The state sets the student acceptance requirements and also the standards for their academic only requirements. The number of students by needs are items to be determined and the cost negotiated in the bidding process.

Well, finally, Liberty spelled out his (or her) plan. Public education remains public education, but by contract to the lowest bidder. Please somebody tell Liberty how much the govenment is paying (by contract) for toilet seats. On top of that, the portion of my taxes that goes for education now won't be returned to me, but given to those with children so that they can either go to the school in their district that is run by the Halliburtons of the world, put it toward the higher cost of a private school (they will have to come up with the remaining funds) or home-school and keep the funds (even mine). Cute Liberty. Go back to the drawing board.

Homeschooling is first choice but not all children have parents that's willing to do that for their children. The public school system described is for the parents who CHOOSE IT.

I will re-post.

somebody explain this sentence to me. "If a teacher wants a union to represent them and bargain for their wage they can do so on an individual basis only as our constitution allows, but not collectively."

What does the Constitution have to do with whether or not a person joins a union? Does "not collectively" mean that once 49.99% of the teachers in a district or a school join a union, nobody else can? The whole idea of a union by its very definition is to represent the collective workers.

I need an interpreter. Liberty is speaking in tongues.
