Centerton named Four Star School

I also look at the bigger picture of the system that most of us parents and grandparents went through, which shaped our views or as the NEA puts it, molds our minds. I wasn't trying to be creative with the numbers but I think the one thing I pointed out may be a good point to focus on. The curriculum we hear about that all the schools "teach to it's test" is the one I call ISTEP based. This is the one that established all the acceptable norms in Indiana state education. In the GEC system teachers ( regardless of what they pay to support) aren't allowed to be creative and are stuck with a political indoctrinating and established set of standards. Are they things that a child needs? Are they things that a child wants to know? Are they things that are academic or are they things they tells a child to change the way he feels about principles and culture and moral outlook about the community around him. The fact is we are ranked 37th in the world in Education period. That's behind several third world country's but only ranked 20th in the world for our graduation rate. Humm... hows that possible. The only way that could be is if we just lowered our standards of education compared to the world. I guess that also explains the on-slot of the used term " dumbing down of America". In order to keep the graduation rate up they simply have lowered all expectations and requirement of the national class body. So Yes, we are right up their with number 19 in graduation children and giving them a worthless piece of paper but yet they still don't know as much as number 36th ranked third world country's child. This happens at our local level also, last year a teacher told me how a certain school super in this county had applied some drop outs to the list leaving to be home-schooled so not to affect the schools graduation rate. One of the biggest problems in union-government school systems today is cheating. Not by the children but by the administration and teachers in order to pass school assessment test like ISTEP. Sure they are teaching children to cheat and defraud but all across the country this has become a big problem. Yes, it has happen in our community to if you have been following to papers stories over the last several years. Even though it's a sin to teach a child to sin I do understand the pressure the administrators put on the teachers just to pass the ISTEP test which in it self is really failing. When the whole school strives to just pass( get a D- ) the ISTEP then really the schools real score is a D-. I strongly believe that getting the government politicians out of education requires getting the teachers unions out of education because they are who fights and sustains the union government run system. Once this is accomplished the level of creativity and other forms of educatyion will start to develpop. After that we must government proof the system and protect it. It's going to take many free thinking parents that can stand above the embedded thinking of the old system. You may disagree but I do appreciate you contribution to the thought and your interest in your child. I wish that virus could be spread. . |
