I don't think anything will come from the "inquiry" (complaint). The Hatch Act looses a lot of its fingers once federal money arrives in the state or local bank funds. The Act was never intended to reach down as far as the position Mr. Buskirk held. It was a patronage job at a fairly low level.

When politicians lose their jobs and their party is in power at the state or in a close-by jurisdiction, it is not uncommon for the politician to make some calls inquiring whether or not there is a job available. Because of past back-scratching and support, they usually try to find a spot for him or her.

Folks, you may thank all of this is distasteful, but it is a fact of political party organization. Think of it as a union. Members protect each other. And, next year or soon after, the tables may turn and the giftee becomes the giver.

It is one of the reasons that political mavericks and "independent politicians" have an up-hill battle in administering once elected. It's not impossible, just more challenging. To give an example.

Lets say that you have just won the race for Mayor and you are an independent or an "alternative" Republican (the only winners in Morgan County). All of your city department heads, key employees, and on down the line were faithful supporters of the out-going mayor. In fact, they donated money to the campaign, and were only working because the out-going mayor knew them or their family well.

Can you trust those people to do a good job for you? Will you be looking over your shoulder each and every day? Or do you clean house and put in new people? Do you realize how much day-to-day operations depend on knowing the intricies of government, all the rules and regulations....etc.

Buskirk would shuffle the deck of employees, like what happens when a new Sheriff is elected. Deckard has "his team" in place, so there would be few if any changes. But someone else? Just something to think about.

On Ms. Kersey. Nice enough lady. Her strength was that she was connected, and connections open doors. Someone in city and county)government needs to have the responsibility of locating money. It is a time-consuming and frustrating to be a money go-fer. The dollars don't usually fall in your lap. Many proposals are made for the few that are successful. Should someone from Morgan County be given that job? Maybe, but I'm not sure who could have matched her inside knowledge of where the money sources were. I'd say this is an issue that doesn't deserve to be drug into the discussion of who should be mayor.

Nicely stated Nobodyimportant. Political (Rage against the Machine) seems to run at a fever pitch these days. It seems that with the advancement of the human race in terms of communications and technological accounting, it has become harder for politicians to make underhanded moves while hoping their actions get lost in the "Books" somewhere, or simply forgotten with time. Although it has generated a willingness for them to get more creative, deceptive, and cautious...politics will always remain politics.

Surprisingly enough it has in a few cases cornered them to admit the truth, as it was the best move to make considering the political fallout.

A yes, is not always really a "Yes", or a no always simply a "No".

"The essence of a free government consists in an effectual control of rivalries."

To The Point said:
Phil Deckard does not play dirty.

He has done nothing but play dirty. He has already tried to get one candidate ousted from the race. Is currently trying to get another ousted. He can't challenge my elidgability, I've lived in the same house on S. Lincoln St. for 15 years and I'm not a public sector employee. Let alone that he has stated on here that I have only been to one or two city council meetings when he knows for a fact that I have been to more of them than most people in Martinsville combined.

He also stated that he talked to and invited all the business owners around the hospital to his talk with INDOT about his gateway at 252. I know for a fact he did not.

Tuesday night at the mayors dinner he stated that crime was down by 9% in Martinsville, yet today on the front page of the paper the police cheif states that "burglaries are up over last year in Martinsville."

Let alone he has his grandson working for the city street dept. and now is trying to get his grandson-in-law elected to the district 2 seat.

Sounds to me like he is doing pretty much the same stuff that Buskirk did. The only thing I see is him trying to use the city government for the benefit of his own family.

Like I said before: TWO SIDES OF THE SAME COIN. Funny how I'm supposed to be the one that doesn't know what's going on around town.

To the Voice,

You're right, it's gonna be ugly. You can thank the mayor for that one. And everyone said it was going to be Buskirk that got dirty first.

Let me refrase one thing I said.

He "supposedly" has tried to get rid of one candidate. Of course, WE, the little people will never know this as a fact, but it sure wasn't me and I don't believe it was Buskirk either.

Mr. Danny Stewart,

If I may, I would like to offer an unsolicited political analysis. I will not debate your eagerness for the improvement of our city, or your personal undertakings that benefit us.

The behavior of Martinsville voters is as predictable as the sun coming up in the morning, or setting in the west. That knowledge should be your starting point for your political desires.

It appears that your eye is on the big chair without first warming up a smaller seat, thus allowing your name to be in the paper more often and it also being a conversation generator in social circles.

The current tactics you are undertaking would require a truckload of money for public appearances that would require a benefit for those who attend. Along with that would be a large staff with both convincing conversational skills and an ample supply of shoe leather to comb the city. I doubt that is within the vast majority of the citizenry's budget. Shall I mention the difficulty of winning over those who are firmly locked in the Deckard and Buskirk trenches.

Remember everything you say and do is political.

You stated previously...

That is all I have to say about that. Now if you are expecting me to get nasty with you or Phil, sorry, I will not go down that road. I will defend myself in the cleanest and best way I can, but that is all.

Or the fact that you said you were not running for Mayor after you personally spoke with Mayor Deckard. When you make a statement be sure that is what you mean, and don't deviate unless you can fully explain the rationale behind it!

To get ahead you have to be consider the platform and the crowd you are playing to, while also considering how it may look to another group of people. Mayor Deckard is a seasoned politician and he fully understands these things and the behavior of the city.

I believe Mr. Stewart that while you are still young and the retirement days are not far off for those you are competing with and their supporters; you should look to the probable political factions of the future. Win that crowd, and in 8 to 12 years you may have a chance.

Sometimes politics reminds me of professional wrestling...

To the point,

Then I guess that you are calling Roger Coffin a liar. He stated in an interview with WCBK that it WAS the mayor that wanted him to check into Buskirks elidgability to run for office.

I hope you have a good day.

Danny,

I did forget to add that if this is an attempt to draw a response from the Mayor, I doubt it would succeed. The polls show yourself and Mr. Spina to be a non-factor. Mr. Deckard understands this, and the only way he may respond if either there wasn't anyone defending him, or if this idea of yours started to take root in the hearts and minds of voters, and he was being personally questioned about it. The response would more than likely be through a patsy as to show himself not getting involved.

Now if you were Mr. Buskirk, it perhaps might be a different story.

I believe you still have much to learn, but I do applaud your boldness.

Justice 101,

I stand corrected. I should have stated "The public Opinion" instead of Polls.

My apologies.
